Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So this has been troubling my mind for quite some time...especially when i go to a cinema...

So as far as i can remember free stuff = ads

    paid = no ads

so when i go to cinema i get to spend 15 mins of my movie watching ads...same goes for tv why do i have to pay the tv licence if i still gotta watch most tv ads ( god bless sky plus)

its just bothering my mind :)

can some one educate me why am i paying to watch ads :)

Does it subtract from you experience? Multiply it by the many forms and it becomes a divisive issue.

Edit: Boo for editing of OP's.

Since when has paid stuff = no advertisements (ads)?

Ever think that without the ads the cinema ticket may cost more?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Just cover your eyes stick your fingers in your ears and scream I'm not listening while jumping up and down. That'll show em.

    Or just pirate everything.

Well the TV one is pretty obvious, the channel you are watching whatever show puts ads on so they can pay the owner of the TV show to play the TV show.

Cinema ads i'm guessing are to pay for the movie to be played, because the money you pay to go is also used to pay wages of staff and probably to fix the general wear and tear of the cinema itself

It's the same with DVDs. I can remember some guy had a pirated movie once and there were no adverts on it at all, with a regular DVD you have all that piracy crap that you can't forward or skip through.

No reward for honest people at all.

well that too :) i remember seeing in funny pics cat a good pic

Pirated Movie = Press Play -> Watch

Purchased DVD = Press Play -> spend 30 mins watching warnings and movie adds and ****...

well how much the ticket would cost?

Most typo's I let go but I see "adds" so many times that I'm actually beginning to wonder do these people think the full word is "addvertisement"?

I hope you don't include the trailers in your rant, they're the best part!!!

Anyway here it is explained very simply.

    More ads = more money.

It is a capitalist society we live in after all. You're not a commie are ya?

i would do that except every time i do it, they don't show long ads, and the film starts quick enough (2/3 mins after the time it's supposed to), but i do go early, the ads are always longer, about 15mins

fúck you, cinemas! you can never get it right

As for the piracy thing's mentioned on legit Dvd's, that is very annoying.

It's akin to when you turn up for training and someone says "People are slacking by not coming to training and that's not on". Feel like telling them to f*ck off - I'm here, don't be telling me.

OP, the TV programs are there to encourage you to watch the ads. Not the other way around.

You don't need to subscribe to boards to avoid the ads, just use the Firefox plugin "Adblock Plus" :pac::pac::pac:

I wish more people would watch this BBC docu, it might change how they view things and help them wake up from consumerism

Interesting, it's part 1 of 6, just in case people stop after the first part.

Interesting, it's part 1 of 6, just in case people stop after the first part.

each episode is split into 6 parts on youtube, 4 episodes in total. If you have an interest in that kind of thing its extremely fascinating and slightly depressing, otherwise it might be hard to watch, i dont know..

Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, changed the perception of the human mind and its workings. His influence on the twentieth century is generally considered profound. The series describes the ways public relations and politicians have utilized Freud's theories during the last 100 years for the "engineering of consent"....

For all the people complaining about the trailers and warnings on DVDs press:

    STOP>STOP>PLAY

It skips through it all.Works on 95% of the DVDs I've tried.

Why are people surprised about the maximisation of profits when it's the driving force behind pretty much every factor of modern day living?
