Hello people, i'm only new..........I have been gutted by the latest recruitments freeze news but i still have my AC coming up ....Does any1 have any tips for me regarding the AC.

    thanks peeps :)
I've done the AC three times now and the only piece of advice I can give is to study the 6 criteria and nothing else.

While you're in the waiting room (which is before you enter the prep room) look over the criteria for the next exercise as you know that's what the next role play/question etc will be specifically looking at.

There is no point in earing your answer towards something like Team work when that's not the criteria being assessed at that particular test. Tho that's prob just common sense anyway.

ive done the a/c 4 times and passed it 3 times now, id definately agree, make sure you concentrate on the criteria the excersice is looking for. ive never done one of these classes or studied for the a/c because im not sure you really can. my fail was the first time i did the ac and had no idea what to expect ande had no idea of this forum until this campaign, but now i know who to play the ac and how to read the roleplayers

Done the AC on Wednesday 7th July and got a pass letter on Saturday past. Just trying to read through the hundreds of pages on the forum to try and figure out any kind of good indicators of your score.

Would I be right in saying that if you recieve vetting forms within a few weeks its a good sign? Does anyone know if these forms are still being sent out with the employment freeze that has been anounced? As a matter of curiosity does anyone know what is the pass mark of the AC?

Yeah Jim , lots of reading to keep you busy. My own personal opinion is that people are reading too much into the speed (or lack of it ) with which they get vetting forms - reading the forum though you can see that people fret when they don't get them and do a jig of joy when they do arrive - I'm not sure it amounts to a whole heap of beans to be honest but like I said that's just my opinion.
I have not heard of Vettings forms being received by anyone since the freeze was announced but it was interesting to hear that medical invites were received on Thursday and Friday which could be taken as a suggestion that Vetting forms will start going out.

O I never heard of these people getting medicals but that looks positive if anything. I am trying not to get my hopes up but still finding myself trying to figure out if there is any possible method to the whole process. Are you applying through C16 yourself?

Yup , C16 and lovin every minute of it  TBH the process is reasonably well-defined at this early stage , just wait when vetting kicks in and due to the huge variances in vetting times things start looking wild.
The major bug at this point is that it is quite possible to get a Pass letter only to subsequently get a Dear John , i.e. you passed the AC but did not score high enough to be considered further - that must be brutal and there are several people here that happened to in previous campaigns - a gutting experience.
No firm idea of AC pass mark - lots of speculation, the majority of which will probably prove wide of the mark.

Anyone on here still to do the AC ? Or know anyone left?

Before the freeze usually ppl got vetting forms around 1-2wks After but as said means nothing ATM and with freeze who knows what's gonna be happening thou medical dates is IMO a gd sign

lovin every minute lol. Yea I'm not placing much hope on that letter because I know the competition is fierce and that the pass mark is pretty low from what I've heard (40 or so).

Alright folks, im sure everyones wondering what the problem is ith the freeze etc etc. Basically we're waiting for the finance minister sammy wilson to open his mouth about budgets. Another wee bird told me that anyone who has receieved vetting forms shall progress to garnerville subject to the vetting (obiously) and the medical.

It's just irrelevant like your mans

"a friend of a friend told me that the old widow o'reilly heard from the retired postman who used to deliver post on the route past GV in the 1940's that if you recive vetting forms on the third full moon, coupled together with flyers for dominos pizza, then you walk around the house backwards three times while saying the hail mary forwards your getting in, regardless of a recruitment freeze"

I would doubt anyone who got them will get into Garnerville, surely until the merit list is drawn up they can't be going about saying "yeah ok your in, you too" etc etc. and seeing as vetting is sent out before the list is compiled, you could have vetting with a merit not good enough to get in.

Ah , I see now - most eloquent. On that point while it would suit some of us very nicely were that true that people with vetting are in there I have to say I would like something a wee bit more reliable...........

Anyone who thought i was taking the piss, my information came from a range of former ruc/psni officers and former assessment centre examiners, then again it could be my 'aul dolls best mates dogs friends cousins bass player'.

Apart from the sources of information i already spoke about, think of it this. Why on earth would they send you vetting forms if they did not want you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭Cashflow

Stop clutching at straws. Ain't no one being offered a job until the freeze is lifted. Deal with it.

We are not debating the point about the freeze..we are debating how reputable this guys info is!

Not in the slightest. The only thing you need to concern yourselves with is that until you hear an official announcement from the PSNI themselves, consider your chances to be zero.

In addition to what Cashflow said, even if there was no freeze many would get vetted and never get the call.

Everyone on this forum is very pessimistic... I know you are going to try and say that you are all being realists, but the reality is that people want to stay optimistic about it and not let it get them down and take over their lives. The least we all could do for eachother is to support eachother through this and keep our spirits high or we will all end up on anti-depressants and never get anywhere! Don't hinder people from believing something is good news, let them assume but if someone is down try and help brghten them up because even if it may not come now everyone will at some point get their break!!

Your point is well-made and understandable Slunk. I would probably be among those who could be considered pessimistic , I attribute this mindset to what I saw happen on The Garda Recruitment Forum following the freeze on AGS recruitment in the Republic.
The Garda forum seemed to become little more than endless posting of theories and ' inside ' knowledge that at times , frankly bordered on the ridiculous. People seemed to think the colour of tie the Justice Minister wore was indicative the freeze was about to be lifted - ok , not quite true but you get my idea. I used to think if I posted that my pet Rottweiler had shagged the Garda Commissioners pet Afghan Hound and thus had inside knowledge people would have sat up and paid attention !

Only last week the PublicJobs.ie website ( Garda applications are made via this site ) announced they were going off-line for a couple of hours for maintenance , instant speculation followed that perhaps this was a sign they were getting geared up for a big drive - fact is it was probably just that - maintenance.

This process can , to a certain extent, 'take over' your life and not in a healthy way either - I'm sure there are others here who would back me up on that. We all want the same thing - solid , reliable and GOOD news . I just don't want this forum to become a pot of useless and inaccurate speculation . Having said that everyone here is perfectly entitled to put forward their thoughts - I am not trying to be a ' back seat mod ' .

Anyway , whats the latest word from Rumour Control ? :D

I think that people are getting themselves far too woried here. Chill out.
People in for this campaign could only expect to be in by October, thats still a while away, I know that its bad news about the freeze but it could still change.

    Chin up!

I know what you mean about the fevered speculation...does my tits in man. I remember around the time of the ban on recruitment every joe soap had a man on the inside of the Garda..."It will last a week" "Seven Years" hahahhah....what a joke.

I hear ya...I'm all for a bit of speculation, rumours, theories and "inside" stories, I've nothing against it, I just choose not to listen to too them much. My theory with things like this is basically expect the worst and anything but will be a nice surprise!

Oh and inside scoop folks...if you listen to Matt Baggott on the news today and take the last word from every sentence he says he's giving us a secret message! He says blah blah recruitment blah blah freeze blah blah is blah blah over blah blah in blah blah november, and then winked at the camera...true story*

*totally not true story :D but I wouldn't be surprised if we started to hear theories like that!
