Methinks if you're of the stereotypical 'Foxrock Daddy-drives-a-lexus' stripe of person you'd qualify anyone who doesn't earn as much as your parents as being poor which is, y'know, wrong.

anyway who cares what these idiots have to say, theyve barely lived at all yet and have little to no grasp on reality

It is true though, Irish people begrudge other people having anything.

I wouldnt call myself rich in the multi-millionaire sense but my family isnt stuck for money and my friends know this.Anytime I buy myself anything even slightly expensive, I get the usual shake of the heads from the mates and comments saying "you have too much money."

    does my head in!

I'm sick to my balls, fucking sick. If I read the word "begrudge" one more time I'm going to fucking lose it. This word should be expunged from the fucking dictionary, it's such a retarded, lazy argument worse than Godwin's law, it should be call "ad begrudgem".
Just on the topic of this, people aren't really annoyed that these little shits go on holidays, act like fools and catch an STD*, what people are more annoyed about is reading about these cunts in the first place. People are sick of reading of rich, stuck up, retarded little bastards talk about their pathetic leaving cert and even more pathetic holiday. There's always been rich people, and there will always be. But that doesn't mean their opinions are any more valid than the rest of us, it's just they seem to get more air time than the rest of us.
To be honest I'd rather read about a west-brit explorer shooting tigers in Bengal than these trumped up little cunts.

*The fuck am I going to call something an infection if your mickey can fall off.

The quote in the OP could well be a joke. It's the ****ing Daily Mail. Is anyone being interviewed really going to care what they say?

So rich people don't like poor people because they have a heightened sense of smell , due to their noses pointing in a 60 degree angle towards the moon, and the vinegar smell burns their nostrils.

And poor people don't get a whiff of the money because some of their noses are smashed flat parallel to their face like a boxers nose.

    Oh yes

That's a very snobbish take on things.

I'd say the youngsters featured in that article are as middle class as they come. Still, the enraged working class readership love this kind of story precisely because it enrages them. The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday are selling more copies than ever. There's a new bunch of Trinity/UCD journos/sub-editors who know exactly how to press the buttons of the populace.

I'm sorry, but what planet are you on?
I just sat my LC. I don't know a single person who got a penny off their parents for a holiday, or pretty much anything for that matter. I personally haven't been given a penny since I turned 17, and I know a good few in the same situation, and I don't exactly live in an area of poverty.

The only parents forking out cash to send their kids out to costa-del-whatever are the ****ers who brought up the likes of the kids quoted in the OP.

They're nearly as bad as pikeys, only they don't steal things. :pac:

Irish class confusion: thinking you're a cut above everyone else when you get to spend 2 weeks of the year drinking cheap beer and wine in the Costa del Sol. These kids are middle class by all accounts.

I went on a sun holiday with a gang of people all right after first year in college (1997) but I paid for it myself.

Love how those who hate snobbery and accents that make their ears bleed and spoilt little sh1ts therefore hate rich people...

Probably because when i was doing my Leaving Cert it was at the height of the economic boom and people were spending money like it was going out of fashion (which it turns out it was ;)) Most parents of my mates helped out with spending money or for the holiday itself.

GAAAAHHH, EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. This annoys me so much "blah blah blah privileged..." Rockford Manor is there...ROCKFORD ffs, that's about as public as public schools get. It's a good school by all accounts, a friend went there and got 600 points as well as turning out very happy and well-adjusted, and it's not fee paying at all. Clearly just because it's in Blackrock it's somehow "privileged"

This stuff goes on every weekend. People from "D4 schools" like to go out, we drink, we have fun and it's none of the Daily Mail's business.

I can't believe that rag actually sent a reporter over there to creep on a bunch of LC students. It's a worse reflection of the tabloid than it is on the people in it tbh.

"There are different rules out here anyway. We wouldn’t do it at home.’"- that's it TBH. They're just having fun, let them at it.

Eh, what makes you think these kids so desperately want their opinion to be heard? They didn't seek out this "journalist" (scandal-monger more like), the writer of this piece specifically sought out the messiest, most drunken people they could find in order to write a completely over the top, sensationalist article. For all we know there could have been loads of people saying "yeah I'm having a great time, drinking a fair but but sure I'm always in control and haven't done anything stupid, I just want to unwind". "MIDDLE CLASS TEENS ENJOY SUN HOLIDAY" doesn't sell papers I'm afraid.

I think it's actually pretty creepy that a journalist (and I use that term in the loosest sense here) was actually standing around in the middle of the night, actively seeking out drunk kids and getting pictures taken of them.

Yeah, yeah. The important point is that psychological class war sells newspapers.

Just come to think of it, these little monsters are going to have to spend the naxt 4 or 5 years heavy partying in college, so you would have to feel sorry for them. You shouldn't begrudge them their little starter pack, Costa del Sol junket.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

I don't have any issue with a bunch of teens having fun - and I understand them getting annoyed with people who whinge about them, but then I lose any sympathy when they claim this whingeing is wealth envy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

Yeah that guys sounds like a dick, but he's definitely in the minority. He was clearly only quoted saying that because the Daily Mail knew it tied in with their "look at the rich kids!" sensationalism.
