How do you know that its even 3,515?

How do you know its not more.Just because they haven't caught them doesn't mean its not alot higher. And any of it be it whether 2000,they should be caught and dealt with.
If it was about Irish fraudsters, without the stats and proof of how many are screwing system, i don't even think anyone can prove they have or haven't either.Doesn't mean its not happening on large scale. And would be hang them:D

Having been on welfare for the guts of a year I really don't buy the 'welfare tourism' idea. First of all even if someone did want to do it, the hassle of setting it up, the interviews, forms, inspections etc the fact that you have to have a fixed address, the cost of flights. It wouldn't even be worth it. Also how do they pick up their dole every week since it has to be done in person? If it is being done it's a very very small number of people, not even enough to make it a real issue.

It doesnt its wired into the banks or they get friends to collect it for them.If they need photo id would be better.

It used to be that you could get it paid directly into your bank account after 6 months, as I understand this option was abolished some years ago.

It was abolished in 2008 since then all welfare receipients have to collect money in person on a weekly basis. I was asked for photo ID in the post office, every single week, for 9 months. I also had to visit the welfare offices at least three times in person before even being granted jobseekers, received and made numerous phone calls, had to get letters of reference from previous employers and had one personal visit to my house by an inspector. If a person can get away with that while living in another country then heck, they deserve the money.

and you definitely wont see that in the Pravdapendent:rolleyes:

Not a hope sir. De Burgh's daughter appearing in the paper about why she no longer wants to appear in the papers is far more pressing.

But as you cannot be on JB for more than a year all JB claims are now post office only, so it would just be a proportion of long term JA claims still paid in this way.

And even then I think it's only exceptional cases such as people in very rural areas or people with mobility issues etc.

Benefit payments were stopped from being paid directly into bank accounts in 2008 by then Social Welfare Minister Mary Hanafin, who ordered all new claimants to collect their cash in person from post offices using their Social Welfare swipe card as part of a fraud crackdown, and that was amended last year so that An Post staff could ask claimants for photo ID.

As you can see,if they had someone collect for them as it is not compulsory rule to ask for photo ID.Also how long has ther been people in receipt of welfare payments that are non nationals but long term collectors. It has been shown a few times in articles about people claiming here and Uk.
It is very easy to get away with it because no way of knowing who is who.Sure arent they even selling their pps numbers i remeber that been brought up before aswell. There is a whole manner of ways to get money and not be caught for it.

Under EU regulations someone claiming the dole in Ireland for at least four weeks can transfer their payment to another EU state for a maximum of 13 weeks so they can look for work abroad.
Holy **** this is the first time I've heard this. I think I'll abuse to to travel for a year after college.

4 weeks to save for plane tickets and then 200 a week backpacking for 13 weeks isn't bad for nothing:)

They were - but in a lot of cases they still got away with it.
They used to just pile into their cars for an hour, use it also as their lunch break but taken in the afternoon - and go down and sign.
Used to get me mad no end.

I don't blame the "welfare tourists" for ripping off the welfare system if it's open to corruption.

I don't blame the welfare system either as it can never be 100% corrupt-proof.

I blame Ryanair & their cheap pricing policy. Those bastards are ruining this f*cking country.

You knew enough about them to know what they were up to. I would assume that any information would be useful to the Social in these matters.
