Cheers Jay man.Im just trying to look at it a little differently.
I think theyll be looking for a confident whilst relaxed candidate.I am not saying that I will fulfill all of the set criteria but will just be myself and draw upon situations where I have had to deal with particularly difficult or upset people. The first time I attended an Ac I was very nervous which was natural considering I had no idea what I was going to be faced with.

I was trying to convey the difference to a regular job interview where you have to sell yourself in a totally different way with keywords, rehearsed phrases, etc. This one you just walk in and be yourself....sounds simple..eh?
I think I may have put the scud on my chances now:confused:
Very roughly,I would guess that there are about 250-300 who still have to attend the Ac.

Gotta say I agree with you on that. I've a regular interview tomorrow for a job and I'm much more nervous about it than my AC. There's so much more prep work you can do for normal interviews because you know near enough exactly what's going to be asked and what responses they're looking for, it's more about coming up with the general bs answers and memorising your selling points, wether they be true or completely made up.
While there is a certain degree of prep you can do for the AC, for me it's more about you, not how good you are at coming up with bs answers. You can fake your way through most interviews, but I imagine for the AC you've either got it or you don't, you can fake some aspects but you're true personalitly will shine through in the end. I'm just hoping I can keep any nerves for it at bay or I'll start waffling like I tend to do when I'm nervous and that will do me no favors

Hi Folks, did my AC yesterday & think it went ok but I was very nervous beforehand ha ha. We had 3 people who didn't show up at the AC, so that trend seems to be continuing. Now time to just relax & wait for the results to come in.

By the way, thanks to everyone on this thread for the advice & stories from their AC, it helped so much & thanks to Beca for the lists :D & PSNI for the helpful guidance. Good luck to anyone who has left to do their AC.

I passed in 2nd week of May no vetting forms as yet not worrying too much as I see there are more a/c's to go they are likely just sending out forms to those there is no doubt about and the competitive bit will begin once all tests have been done.

A question I would like to ask, I remember quite clearly being told not to worry if you mess one section up, you are assessed on each competency twice and the best one is counted is this how the scoring is done? I see people saying it is marked out of 70 which suggests every mark is counted rather than the best mark. Unless the mark is multiplied by 2 to make it out of 70.

It's simply every mark. The AC info sheet says each competency is assessed more than once so if you feel you've fluffed one up in an exercise there's other opportunities to prove it. Is that where you're getting it from? In other words you can redeem yourself if you fail miserably in one instance by shining in the next...but from what I'm gathering to be in with a shot there ain't much room for error!

I thought it went OK but just that - not brilliant certainly. That said I think it is a test that it is very hard if not impossible to accurately predict your score.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭Jay_Man

Yeah totally impossible to predict. Hopefully it's a good sign we scored well receving Vetting forms but who knows..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Congratulations to all of you who have recieved their vetting forms.......

I did my A/C on 16th so get nervous everyday as I pull up to the house, looking for a big brown envelope in the post box...........it's not good for the system.......wish they gave the A/C scores with the pass letter so you have some indication as to wether or not to hold your breath.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭Delancey

Hmm , lots of things I wished they did differently - AC scores , some idea of vetting progress , gave merit scores instead of having to ring for them, dear me I could go on and on...............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 684 ✭✭✭wanadrum

Well I just got home ant there was a big thick A4 envelope in the letter box...........

Turned out to be from Virgin Media trying to convert me from Sky - gutted.......

I'll give it a couple of days yet :(
