    Yeah, quite a few people I spoke to found it kinda hard aswell.

    Q1 C (ii) & Q2 C (i) took me ages to get but I ended up with €60,000 and 2%!

    I got 35.666% for compound interest & it worked

    I was the last one in the exam centre but I'm glad I stayed because I fixed my graph :o I think I did well enough :)

    Unfortunately you are. It has to be a+-b√b
    The number in the √ and just before it have to be the same

    Anyone know what ye got in the Venn diagram? I got X=20

    x=10?
    D:

    I GOT THAT TOO :D and i added it all up at it totalled 100 so we are right :cool::cool::pac:

    Yay :D
    *whimsical joy*

    For question 3 (c)(ii) I just continued with the minus b formula. Is that really so awful?

    I think so :confused: can't really remember that q

    Other people I spoke to after the exam got 2% aswell.

    €2030 - €2000 = €30
    €30 = 75%
    €40 = 100%

    €40/€2000 x 100% = 2%

    1.20 -> 1.17

    3/120 *100/1 = 2.5% Yeah

    Well what was the value of b? Are you sure that B was positive? It could have been negative, so when you put it into the formula it would turn positive?

    EDIT: I got 2.5% for petrol and 2% for compound interest (increasing to €2060.45 for second year)
    EDIT2: Yup, I got €60,000 for the income question too

    Does anyone know how to do the question:

    Solve f(x) = f(x+1) ?

    €2000 + r% = 2706.66 -25% = 2030

    2030 = 75 %
    2806.66 = 100%

    use compound formula F= P(1+ t r
    2706.66 = 2000r
    divide by 2000
    1.3533333 Which is 35.333%

    Yeah DKZ, I did that. Let's just say the function was f:x -> x²+x+1, what you'd write is:
    x²+x+1 = (x+1)²+(x+1)+1

    There's two X values at the end because that's a quadratic equation. When the papers go up I'll do a step-by-step because I don't know the exact figures

    You sub in (x+1) for (x). I got something like x = -2/5

    Sh we will! :) Me and Dylan had a sort of applied maths paper you see that's why the answers are different! :)

    €2000 + r% = 2706.66 -25% = 2030

    2030 = 75 %
    2806.66 = 100%

    use compound formula F= P(1+ t r
    2706.66 = 2000r
    divide by 2000
    1.3533333 Which is 35.333%

    But wasn't the tax on the interest, nt the actual amount itself?

    Oh, yeah woops. I left out the equation:

    f:x -> x squared - 4x + 5

    Yeah it was a tax on the interest earned.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,014 ✭✭✭Colm!

    OK, it's not a quadratic, sorry.

    x²-4x+5 = (x+1)²-4(x+1)+5
    x²-4x+5 = x²+2x+1-4x-4+5
    x²-4x+5 = x²-2x+2
    -6x+6 = 0
    -6x = -6
    x = 1

    EDIT2: WRONG WRONG WRONG, This is an incorrect answer, it's actually -x squared, not x squared.
    EDIT: Waaait that's not what I got in the exam. Either these aren't the right figues, or I ****ed up.
