I dunno, Isaac Newton as a mind would knock Mr Hawkings into the special needs class(and he would agree) and he was into alchemy and spent more time divining religious scripture than he spent on physics which he revolutionised. Just because he has some important papers on black holes and the like and a largely unread coffee table book, does not make him any authority on a subject where as far as science goes we have only one singular example. Astrobiology as a subject while worthwhile as an intellectual exercise is mired in abject conjecture until the first life is discovered elsewhere. Until then you have pretty much as much intellectual currency as he does.

They don't as yet know how likely or unlikely the occurrence of life on our planet was, therefore any assertion regarding the likelihood of life coming into being on another planet is mere speculation. Look at it this way, the sheer size of the universe, and the fact that life has been seen to exist on this planet, makes it seem unlikely that there isn't a single other planet which contains life, but doesn't that statement assume something about the likelihood of life existing?

If I flipped ten coins, and on the tenth flip the coin landed on its edge and stood upright, I might assume that somebody flipping a million coins would experience the same thing at least once. But is this a valid assumption? The conditions which existed in order for the coin to land as it did might occur once in a billion flips, once in a trillion, once in septillion, or possibly only once ever, I don't know. Therefore I believe that we can say it might be likely, due to the size of the universe, that life exists elsewhere, but this fact doesn't allow us to make the leap to certainty.

Edit: Just to be pedantic, UFOs do exist, unidentified flying objects have been observed on many occasions (and have provided names for bands, eg: The FooFighters) but they are not necessarily of extraterrestrial origin.

Probabilistically, aliens exist somewhere in the universe.

Probabilistically, they most likely haven't visited Earth or know that there is life here. Therefore UFO stories are most likely 99.999% false.

Probabilistically, almost all of the other life forms in the rest of the universe don't know or haven't observed life in other parts of the universe themselves, like us.

You would want to be a total Idiot not to believe that Aliens exist, there are over 100 Billion yes Billion galaxies in the universe with billions of other planets so to think that we are the only planet to have life well arent we special:rolleyes:.

But at what point after the big bang would the universe have become infinite? It came from a single point which isn't infinite and just got bigger. That means it is just really big and whatever was outside it before it came into being is more than likely still there, I'm guessing.

UFO's? Hmm. Maybe, maybe not, though you'd imagine they'd be able to hide themselves from us if they made it all the way here. As for Stanton Friedman, I notice he makes money out of them (lectures/books etc) which reduces his credibility a bit.

Wouldn't be so sure about that. We kinda built things everywhere during the Celtic Tiger...

Now that's what I call a poll, nice one Biggins. There is something alright to all this UFO business I feel. All that grey alien stuff, I thinks is total $hite. Attention seeking nutbags tend to be involved a lot here. But when you get experienced airline pilots and military pilots etc, as eyewitnesses, that's when you sit up and listen.

Aliens could come from different dimensions or parallel universes for all we know.

I've seen an alien, and believe me I didn't want to see it. Terrifying. And I've never spoken about it to anyone in real ife, except my Mother - who also saw it.

There for real alrite i saw one a while ago big fire ball looking thing flying around posted about on here it got locked and then a week or two later someone else made post describing the exact same thing.

I think its getting harder and harder for the goverments of the world to cover it up, my cousin sent me a video of a big spiral thing in the sky over in austrailia it was the exact same as the norway spiral thing that they tried to say was a russian rocket, that also showed up in china aswell its getting kinda wierd these days i think.

Can you imagine arriving on earth to see a really cool planet populated by Giant reptiles and then realising you were a couple of million year years too late that would be a bummer.

Yeah, that's the way I'd look a it too. Here's a nice list of professionals who witnessed UFOs or official UFO related documents

    yes there are UFO's
flying objects that have not yet been identified

with our current level of technology we could just about build generation ships that would colonise most of the galaxy within a million years

our solar system is only 4.54 billion years old , formed from the remnants of supernovas. the earliest supernovas were 11 billion years ago so an advanced civilisation following the same course we did could have appeared six billion years ago. Or even earlier since it took over three billion years for life on our planet to produce true multicellular organisms. Some thing as simple as a different ratio of iron in the seas could have resulted in enough oxygen for complex life two billion years earlier on a different planet. So the first ET should have had an 8 billion year head start on us and back then the universe would have been much smaller (1/3rd the dimension, 1/27th the volume) so colonisation would have been much easier.

looks like it's just us then

I've seen them more than once. Two types whilst being abducted and one in my bedroom. I have seen a humanoid with huge eyes, a grey small alien, and a toad-like reptilian alien.

Believe me I wanted to go unreg for this, but if I can't speak out about this who ever will...

I believe I have been abducted for years. My mother has witnessed it, and one of my college flatmate's witnessed it (not the actual aliens but the rest of the event - me being paralysed and falling at her bedroom door for help) so I have other people to say I'm not imagining it.

I remember one time I 'dreamt' that I was abducted (felt every minute of it) - I was in a laboratory and there were IRISH people there involved working on the abductees...so there is an involvement at every country level.

I've had so many experiences I wouldn't know where to start, and as you can imagine I haven't talked to anyone about it, because who would you talk to about it?

Thank God it seems to come in phases, and I'm not going through it right now, because it is truly awful, there is nothing worse than lying there at night just terrified out of your mind, and I wouldn't want anyone to experience it. The worst feeling is feeling so helpless, I have no power oveer it - feel like a lab animal.

As you can appreciate - it's scary to put this out in the open, but this is what I believe to have been happening to me.

I don't believe there is a conspiracy because if our governments are so inept at everything else why would they be any better at concealing any alien arrivals.

Why is any ufo/yeti/loch ness etc footage always grainy/dark/ fuzzy etc..

because its all a load of bollocks.

I was really shocked as to how many officials and highly ranked officers were claiming they saw evidence of extra terrestial life in the disclosure project

Even astronauts are coming out now saying the government are keeping important information from the public

I'm not saying for a fact that two seperate species of aliens from different planets didn't decided to chose you out of the 6 billion or so humans on the planet to stealthily abduct from your bedroom while you were sleeping without leaving any trace of the events......but maybe there are other possible explanations for what you experienced?

Just reading about Stanton Friedman (HERE), a man that stated "some UFOs are intelligently controlled extraterrestrial spacecraft, and this is the biggest story of the millennium."

Before anyone can say, here we go, we have another nutter (besides myself :p ), Stanton was employed for 14 years as a nuclear physicist for companies like General Electric, General Motors, Westinghouse and Aerojet General Nucleonics.
He worked on highly classified programs involving nuclear aircraft, fission and fusion rockets.
With 53 years of serious study apparently of the subject, he seems to know his stuff.

So I ask my fellow boardies - do you believe that (a) secrets are being withheld from us in regards to the actual existence of UFO's and (b) if they do actually exist?

This is the logical fallacy known as "Argument from Authority". Any claims I have ever read about UFO sightings (Where the UFO is claimed to have extraterrestrial origins of course) seem unlikely to say the least. Just because he is a physicist do not give his claims any more weight. If he had concrete evidence however?
