County Louth Junior Scratch is on the same day, also 18 holes. Not sure which one I will play in. I hear Baltray is the older course and is harder. Anyone played them before?

:D I thought Baltray and Co. Louth were one and the same. :D
As my dad says . . . . "I'm not always right but I'm very seldom wrong"

Cheers for the timely info F22. After much contemplation myself and a mate have decided to make the 3 hour journey from Wexford to play. I've never played it before, but it's highly rated by many. Can't believe the missus has given me a pass for the whole day. Hope the weather holds up now and maybe I'll even get to jump around the 18th green like Shane Lowry LOL :p

Well I hope the weather is better than last year, about 4 degrees and pissing rain. I walked off the first hole. Was eventually rerun as an 18 holer.

    Fantastic golf course.

    Fantastic golf course.

Now that would be a test of endurance.

For anyone heading to Headfort tomorrow, worth noting that the new M3 motorway is now open. Should be a much quicker journey up there now.

Bring plenty of change though - two tolls on it at €1.30 each.

Can someone from Headfort put up the full result please?

Bloody ell Headford was slow yesterday, greens were great but the rest of the course was in great nick
Anyone know why Mullingars time sheet isnt full yet? I would have thought it would be full very quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,249 ✭✭✭mag

def not an excuse & i know its the usual moan but i found the headfort greens VERY slow. course was in good shape though....managed to get sub-80 on the old but struggled on new, mostly with short game.

guess 148 won? we were late in & it didnt look like anything was beating that.

It was very hard to score on the new course. my putting is the worst part of my game and i 3 putted 6 times. The greens are very big and when they're not in good condition makes it impossible. Was happy with my 80 on the old course though

By the way, is it worth an hour and a half drive to Mullingar? I havnt played there before.

    Headford , greens were great

Jaysus, were you playing the same courses as I was?

Greens were shite. Hairy and brutal slow.

Luckily I was out early so got around nice and quickly, and the weather was great. Two lovely courses for scenery etc. but let down by the greens.

Haha, just saw my typo now. I meant to say greens weren't great! But yeah they were brutal.
We started at 11:50 (meant to be 11:30) and finished at 9:15. Very slow. There was a 25 min wait on the second tee of the new course.
They sent groups out at 7 min intervals, dunno what the usual space is but there's no way 7 mins is enough

I thought the Headfort greens were fine myself, particularly on the old course. Very receptive and bar one or two on the new they rolled nice and true.

Some of the scoring was pathetic. I've never seen the new course set up as easy as it was on Saturday (bar the pin position on 12). To see single figure golfers failing to break 100 is a joke.

ha, yea....saw a 101 posted on the new!! fair play to him for not nr'ing though.

personally, i found the greens very slow, particularly on the old course. was playing with a member who said that only the hand mowers get them running at proper speed but they would need to pay overtime to get the staff to cut them with the hand mowers on a saturday....which they cant/wont pay...

First time getting into the scratch cup in Headfort after four years of trying. Was really disappointed about the greens. Fair enough that they weren't too good on the new nine but for years I've heard about how good the greens were meant to be on the old course. Such a pity but I reckon it's a big ask to try and keep two courses in the current climate.

All in all, had a nightmare on the new course (almost 5 hours for a three ball was a joke) and sub 80 for the old which I was happy with. Looking forward to Baltray on Saturday week now. Might be another .1 though!!

Playing 3 Inter Scratch cups next 3 weeks. Esker Hills next Sunday, followed by Corrstown the following Sat and Blackbush on the 26th.
Played Mullingar last Sunday, great course pity about the weather.

Dundalk JS timesheet open. July 4th

The Headfort website shows that the CSS for the second round (Old Course) on Saturday was 72. It's gone through my Golfnet as 71. Can anyone else confirm if theirs is the same?

I rang Headfort and they said that the CSS was definitely 72.

Will this automatically correct itself once the cards are sent to the clubs or is it something that should be flagged with handicap sec?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Huntelaar

Yeh I have the same problem. I rang them up and they told me it was 72 as well but its up on my golfnet as 71.

I hope it gets fixed cos I had a good second round so its the difference between getting cut .1 or .2

Just a reminder that Skerries Junior Scratch Cup is on this Saturday coming and there are still places left.

It's 18 holes this year but that can suit some people too.

Check on www.skerriesgolfclub.ie or call the office on 01-8491567 ext 4

Pretty poor setup, i have to say. Disappointing that it's cut to 18, but the fact that anyone wanting to play junior can only play pm is bollox.

With that in mind, i'm out.

Im also in the same boat with Headfort.
Any one know what'll happen with the standard scratch? i'll get .1 for the second round if its 71 which i dont want :)

Look, I'm just an ordinary member posting up a reminder on this forum that may be of interest to others. That's what the scratch cup sticky is for.

No need to be rude to me.
