Seems like a another bad decision by the government to cut people off the dole-where exactly are all these jobs that people are turning down for the dole? I for one would like to know...

I havent been offered any job or training by them. All talk no action anyway.. Thank god Im gonna be off it soon enough. Thank you people for keeping me on my feet.

Might just add that if you get offered a job or training and dont take it. You deserve to be cut off.

Those ****ing cretins we have parading as the government of this country should try the dole themselves for 2 weeks. Sheltered ****ing asshats who don't have the first clue as to as to what a misery it is to be a dole claimant. I want a ****ing job, not your handouts. No hope of Bastard Biffo sorting that anytime soon though.

In theory, I can't see much wrong with the proposal. If you turn down a job or course that you are suitable for, then why should you recieve the dole?

In practice however, it's not that simple - there aren't a whole lotta jobs out there, FAS courses are a feckin joke & a lot of people who have kids would not be able to afford to take up a low paid job & pay creche fees too.

For something like this to work in practice, a lot more thought has to be put into it. State funded creches, courses that actually teach useful skills & proper job centres would all be a step in the right direction.

If you have a kid(s) and a job doesn't cover creche costs, then it's hardly "suitable" employment. I doubt you'd lose your welfare payment.

If someone offered you a job, you'd need to have applied for it, so I doubt you'd turn it down. Not one person has called to my front door with a job opportunity.

Same for courses/training.

Those cretins on the dole should try the governments job of balancing an income of 34 billion and spending 40 billion on social welfare and the public service. I'd like to see what they'd think of the dole then.

Well, that won't work at all - you could hardly call working for free, a "suitable job" for anybody. That's just slave labour.

Unless they claim the placement program is "training" then it doesn't matter anyway. If you're not paid, it's not employment. If it's not employment, it doesn't fall under "suitable employment".

I'm fairly sure people aren't even attempting to realise that they can't just be offered a job or training program out of the blue. As I've already said, no one has called to my door offering me a job.

You'll only be offered a job you applied for. If you turn it down, then why did you apply in the first place?

Ya your not working for free. Your getting your social welfare and normal benefits and at least your getting some experience for 6-12 months instead of sat at home scratching your arse. You can keep looking for work during this time.

The jobs are out there - I left my job to take a new job last sept. Didn't work out and I was let go after 4 months (it was a sales role). I got another job in feb and after 3 months I was offered a new job (I did journalism and was freelancing while working), which is exactly what I've always wanted to do - I've moved halfway down the country to take it too.

Fact is - the jobs are there if you make getting a job a full-time job in itself - when I got that job in feb I was getting calls about my applications and couldnt remember what they were for - because I was sending out about 6 CV's a day.

Avoid agencies - get any job that pays ok - look for the job you want while you're in your new job, it will help hugely for the employer to see you're already employed

People that are on the dole 12 months+ are lazy, unmotivated leeches - harsh but true. This ruling makes complete sense - if you're turning down jobs you can f**k right off and we'll take that dole from ya, cheers

There's not 450,000 jobs - what I'm saying is if you REALLY want a job you can get one, then you get the job you want a lot easier if you keep looking while you're employed. And if you really want a job you're not going to spend 12 months+ on the dole - too many people get stuck in a rut and 450,000 are NOT looking for a job right now
