A very good and long weekend. It was fantastic to see 60+ Irish on site, many of whom have never been overseas before for a major event. The only Irish greens I came across in game was 3 of the tigers choking on smoke from one of my grenades and Shane walking past me in a basement as I bled out and NOT taking me prisoner :)

I had a fantastic time in command, due only to the fact of the excellent players and section commanders in 1st platoon.
    Uniform 1-1 Dave (Gerrout)
    Uniform 1-2 Glen (NCI)
    Uniform 1-3 Guy (Alternate ID)
Uniform 1-4 Chris from Team T-Bag (UK)

From the outset the Irish USMC platoon was ahead of the game, we were held out of the arena while the UN passed a resolution allowing us to enter the conflict zone. 30min after kickoff orders came in to deploy, uniform 1 & 2 proceeded down the main street. Our first objective was to secure building 11 and search it for 3 US students that needed evac out of the conflict zone, an objective that should have take many hours to complete took 4 min :). The students were found but were not cooperating and refused to ID themselves, however after 7min in a dark basement with Moggser they became strangely helpful and eager to be of assistance. Victor 0 (CFD command) arranged an evac and Uniform 1 was on the move. Building 6, 14, 15, 16, 7 were secured in a short order, 1-4 moved to 17, the USMC FOB, and secured it and held it for several hours. During this time the CDF had lost lost the hostages to CDK forces, intel placed them in building 10, close to the CDK HQ (and respawn).

To mount the assault on 10, building 20 and 25 needed to be taken. Uniform 2 began to move on 25 while first platoon's objective was 20. Both these assaults were less than successful, second platoon was nearly completely cut down outside 25 and first took heavy losses on the ground between 7 and 10. Uniform 1-1 (Gerrout) managed to make it inside the building and secure the ground floor, but had hostiles in the basement and 1st and second floors. CDK reinforcements were reacted rapidly, however Uniform 1-1 and 1-0 were taken out by friendly fire before they arrived, luckily neather where taken prisoner, I was sweating for them 3 min as CDK walked around me, even talking to me, while I was wearing a sign on my head saying I was the USMC battle commander (Baseball cap they were briefed about). From 3PM USMC airsupport was grounded due to volcanic ash (we were doing to well)

USMC proceeded with their objectives thought the day until scheduled stand downs began at 7PM, with numbers thinning on the ground, the calls for reinforcements became more regular and so did my response "I have no one to give you" as we were only holding key objectives at this stage the section commanders were forced to hold buildings at all costs, in building 9 this even came to throwing a redbull can with BB's in it at CDK forces on the ground floor, it sounded like a frag so they ran from cover and were shot, some buildings came down to 1 person holding back the offences.

Roleing standdowns continued until 23:30, USMC assembled for a key objective, building 15 contained a large gold deposit, CDK was on the offencive to take this building and capture the gold, both USMC and CDF forces were holding this location since aprox 10PM, Uniform 1-2 (Glen) was given a field promotion to Marine 1 in the absence of all other commanders and coordinated the defence until Uniform 1-1 came back on line (I woke up :) ) and took over as Uniform 0, aprox an hour later the orders came in that the gold needed to be evaved to Building 12 (other end of the site), however the door of the vault needed to be blown off, and to do so the building needed to be emptied of all personnel (really did, the explosion was massive!!). Uniform 1-3 under command of Markus was the extraction team, 1-4 was the point team to secure building 12, 1-2 was close security and 1-1 acted as rear guard. 1-1 assembled the perimeter outside the building, the all clear was given and boom! The second the explosion went off CDK forces, who had surrounded the USMC troops that where now in the open, opened fire. The attack was successfully repelled and 1-3 moved to building 14 with the package en route to 12.

Once the cargo was secured in building 12, a decision needed to be made. The pattern of attacks indicated our comms where not secure, CDK forces knew our every move (Command was telling them where we where to keep the game going, but we didn't feel like spending the night on the back foot being chased around the site), our secondary objective was to secure building 11, a radio station. Knowing that once I reported in that we the package was secure in building 12 we would be attacked, I contacted HQ and informed them we were moving the package to a secure location, building 11, but not where that the secure location was building 11. A group of CDF had been assembled under the call sign Delta, both Delta and Uniform 1-4 proceeded to building 11 as speed from east and west. Once the location was secured 1-3 and the remainder of the forces proceeded to building 11 with the cargo. After securing building 11 and the gold, command informed me were only opposed by aprox 5 to 8 CDK forces that had no command structure, the call was made to evac the cargo to the USMC HQ and standdown US forces, this was 4AM. An elite squad (PK) remained in the conflict zone thought the night, this 1 man section is reported to have caused complete havoc for the CDK.

Thanks to Dave 1-1, I got the feeling commanding the Hawks was like herding cats at times :) Glen, 1-2, always eager to walk into a certain slaughter, and held one building so long one of his section went hypothermic. Guy 1-3, never failed to complete an objective, and Chris 1-4, simply door kicking awesomeness!

    Uniform 1-0 Out
    HOORAH!

It's a long time since I have felt this worn out but damn, was it worth it. My first time playing airsoft out of the country and with only 4 months of airsofting under my belt I feel priviledged to have been involved in a great event like this.
My excitement levels were through the roof for the entire weekend and on the way home I would have been more than happy to turn around and do it all again (with some dry clothes though).

Last week I was jealous of everyone going (even more so if they were USMC) ... and now having seen the photos I find that this was entirely justified!

An absolutely brilliant weekend from start to finish. Not much sheep sleep had by us but well worth the endurance. Was delighted to meet sooo many Irish playing with and against us. Everybody was friendly and helpfull. Could of done without such windy conditions , but hey its all part of the game. Well done to Shano and Ralph as section commanders of Victor 1-4 and Victor 2-1.
Lots of stories from the event but too many to list. One of my favourites was when attacking a building we unleashed our tactical decoy "Joey", a funny faced yellow football with two smoke grenades duct taped to his head.
Very proud to be Irish after everybodies performances and conduct in Wales.
And Fayer was right, nothing like a tactical burger on the fly:pac::D.

Just so's people don't go thinking it was a walkover, here's some stuff from the Chedaki perspective.
    fayer wrote: »

Naturally, we were in my arse briefed on that, first I heard about baseball caps was from Fay himself after the game. Information flow wasn't really reaching down to the evil henchman on the ground.
command informed me were only opposed by aprox 5 to 8 CDK forces that had no command structure
"Only" nothing - we had markomongo calling the shots! When the section I was assigned to fell apart somewhat due to lack of comms making it impossible to meet up after respawn, I ended up knocking around with Zulu 1-1, The Operators, for much of the game, and I can't get over how impressed I am with them as a team. They're proactive, quick to think and act and react, work very smoothly as a synergistic unit, completely sound, and have those charmingly amusing borderlands accents.

When our side went after Building 15 where the gold was located, it was well-defended and many assaults died just getting to the walls. Eventually after it got dark, I went with 1-1 to try and infiltrate. We worked our way around the backs of buildings 10 and 25 and those ones along the uphill side near our base, helping out in whatever firefights were going on there, before nipping behind the church and around the graveyard. We waited for a break people going to and from the burger area and campsite and crossed the path. From there we could see a few Dessies standing in the middle of the main drag firing tracers up in the direction of our friendlies. We dropped down behind 11A where people were kipping, and scuttled past the front of it through the lit courtyard like Looney Tunes characters walking stealthily on their toes. We then sauntered across the main road casually behind the guys with the tracers and went into 14 to use as a base of operations. We were expecting to find it occupied and so cleared it stealthily, intending to knife kill occupants, but it was already empty. We called for reinforcements, and eventually one guy turned up. So we moved on 15.

We walked naturally across to the basement door, and when challenged claimed to be Marines. It was completely dark inside, and I waved at a guard who pointed a laser at me as I entered. The following conversation is inaccurate due to my terrible memory but the gist is correct.

Marko: "How many are there in here?"
Fay: "About 20, how many of you are there?"
    Marko: "We've got 6."
    Fay: "Who are you, anyway?"
    Marko: "Eh, we're 2-1."
Fay: "2-1? Why the hell aren't you occupying building 24 like you're supposed to?"
Marko: "Well we were told to come down here to reinforce you."
    Fay: "You're not OUR 2-1."
Marko: "Ehh, no. We're section... KNIFE KILL"

There my memory leaves me, and rejoins me getting killed with Marko in another building due to overcaution about blue-on-blue. Gerrowadat is saying "We need to get the package to building 12" and Dr. Pepper is alternately shaking our hands and cursing us for having infiltrated and knife killed the group for a second time. So it's off to building 12 we go, around the woods on the downhill side, past the CDF respawn, misreading the map and clearing building 8, and finding that the rest of the remainder of 1-1 are already in 12, also empty. There's activity in 11 so we head up there.

I was first through the door, clearing the ground floor alone with my slingbacker, who's earned herself the name Iwo Jima because she killed so many Marines (for whatever reason I didn't encounter a whole lot of CDF). There's a guy just down a side corridor and I plug him, and he says "You just freaking killed me! Nice blue-on-blue, idiot" and I'm like "I meant to do that" and he's "Oh, you're Chedaki. Well, I wanted to go to bed anyway." In the last corner of the last room is another Marine, who gets a double-tap too, and he says "Way to bloody kill me, Marine" and I say "No, way to bloody kill me Chedaki" and he says "Oh. Well, I wanted to go to bed anyway." To my mind, you know you've got a successful infiltration on your hands when everyone you kill assumes it's a blue-on-blue.

A grenade on the landing when going for the first floor took out three of us, and we met PK and Rory coming in, whereupon one of our guys (not from 1-1, I hasten to add) starts chatting to them about what we're up to and that they could have some fun hitting 11 from the rear. I guess they did, because by the time we get back to 11 it's empty.

We'd been told the gold has to stay in-game, so figure PK must have grabbed it and legged it, because he's sneaky like that. So, expecting to find a defended building containing the gold and several more containing sleeping enemy, we cleared and searched every single room of every building in the entire village, starting at the CDF end and working up, every corner potentially being hot. When we found nothing and nobody, we asked our dozing commander what's up, and he found out it'd been moved off-game to CDF respawn, so we wandered down there and nabbed it, getting it to a defensible building just before people started to move about again in the morning.

There was of course loads of other cool stuff, stories to tell, amazing things witnessed and performed. I held out on the top floor of 20, figuring that if I could just make it to noon the game would end, but noon came and went and shortly thereafter so did my ammo. There was the incident when I went down in the middle of a street and Jinko and Delta-boy decided to throw out a couple of smokes to cover me - one landed behind me and blew smoke that wasn't covering me, the other landed away from me, rolled directly backward toward me, and blew up revealing itself to be a thermobaric.

The game wasn't perfect, of course - it was generally more skirmishy and less milsimmy than I prefer, some organisational bad luck prevented a fair amount of the cool stuff planned from working out, the information flow through the command structure wasn't getting down to us on my side at least, and I witnessed a fair amount of cheating, from rifling the injury card deck in order to cherry-pick good ones to gross abuses of the simulated-carry concept. Nevertheless, when it was good it was amazingly good, and that's a fantastic site.

Thanks to everyone who made it a great weekend, to ScanlanT for the lift and immense patience with my ludicrous amount of kit, to Jinko for trying to lead a section of mutts, to The Operators for letting me tag along and to Marko Mongo for being as good a section leader as he is an individual airsofter (and that's saying something), and to the Hawks and Delta-boy for fun company on the boat.

Oh, and 24 hours, no breaks and no sleep. Take it.

A grenade on the landing when going for the first floor took out three of us, and we met PK and Rory coming in

hahaha perfect didnt realise i got anyone with that nade:D

Starting at that point from the marines side.

By the time you had attacked that building the marines had already taken everything from that building and took standown. Me and rory were the only ones left. Everything was extracted to the respawn zone for safe keeping. Me and rory even had time to knock about the village and a left off some pyro we then proceeded to the admin building firstly to check the rules about attacking regen points(which we were denied) and then to see if there was anything to do. Were heard there were still some greens in 11 so we thought why not:D

Once we sorted yourselves out we headed off to our regen point for some downtime of our own. we took up defensive positions when we see you guys floating around out side our regen point before getting fed up and taking comfort in what admin said so we nipped into the tent and closed up the doors. Firstly we were sitting on boxes talking joking/taking the piss, before we knew it we were lying down, sleep insued:D. I woke in a panic for some reason and reached for the masada and just as i did you lot burst through the door screaming something or other about taking gold and marshalls. so i slid off the gold box and onto the computer/radio boxes which you left behind;)

Once you guys left, rory followed to draw attention and give me time to get some more marines.

First chance to get online due to interweb issues at home :(

First off it was a class weekend. Granted Ian hit a few unexpected snags leading up to it, but they didnt really impact the game that much. It was great to meet some familiar and new faces at this and I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. The Irish certainly made their presence felt (on both sides) and the positive comments certainly make me proud to say I was part of the Irish contingent.

We (The Tigers) were designated Zulu 1-3, chedaki, and our initial mission at game start was to take and secure building 22 which was to be our FOB. We managed to do so in about 40 minutes, though it would have been quicker if we hadnt attacked and cleared 9 first accidentaly :). We managed to hold it for about 3.5 hours with wave after wave of assault culminating in a coordinated attack from 2 sections to eventually clear us out.
We then were tasked by 1-0 (Lemming) to assist 1-4 on an assault on 15 which didnt really go to plan due to the mortars actually missing the building. We then received intel that the enemy 2IC was in building 14 and we were to capture him and bring im to HQ for interrogation. We then secured building 1, moved into 14 and captured the prisoner.
We then had to go and retake building 22 which we did in about 5 minutes with the assistance of 2-4.
Again we encountered heavy attacks and we received no reinforcements, to the point that we only had 4 remaining upstairs in building 22 defending against an enemy section who had secured the ground floor. There was a serious amount of pyro used on both sides and Id say it looked mental from outside. We called for reinforcements again only to be told to abandon the building while trying to stay alive. We had to carpet bomb the stairwell and ground floor with stun grenades and literally leg it out the back door, only to be shot in the back as we got into the woods. I dont think I would like to have been one of the attackers to see such an amount of pyro bouncing down the stairs towards me :)
My memory is a bit fuzzy about what we did next, but I know we had to retake 22 AGAIN before being tasked with taking building 9 which was infested with marines. We cleared the basement and progresed to the ground floor where we met with savage resistance from moggser and masada on the top floor
I stayed out of game for the night as I was a driver but we had other guys from 1-3 out and about during the night and I rejoined the rest of the squad at approx 08:00.
We recieved intel that a crate drop for the marines was going to occur around the building 22 / building 9 area which, if they succesfully got, would enable them to call in airstrikes again, so off we went to building 22 again (which was still friendly). We left a 4 man team in 22 and I took 3 others with me and we secured building 9. It was then that we hooked up with the Belgians and managed to intercept the marine crate. We basically stayed put like ticks on a dog till endex by which time we had managed to take building 9 and building 17 (enemy FOB) while Rico was blaring out the A-Team theme tune at the top of his lungs with seconds to spare before game over.
I am sure I have left loads out, but there was so much happening and so many highlights, It's impossible to relay everything without writing a small novel.
Again, it was a great weeekend and to give anyone who hasnt been there an idea of the scale of the event, we only came up against the reapers briefly early on Saturday and the hawks later on Saturday. Other than that we did not engage with them at all :)

    Zulu 1-3 out

The mortar strike was frustrating. Called it, corrected the smoke round, and then the mortar team goofed up apparently (when I asked command about it later) and landed the corrected round in the exact same spot!

From a command perspectiove, tHe efforts around 22 and 9 tied up significant enemy resources and allowed us to both consolidate a perimeter stretching from buildings 25, through building 7 (mistakenly called 1), and down to Building 22, and to also push onto the middle areas of the village and achieve our objectives (which through the course of the game we did).

I didn't like having to deny reinforcements when you called for it that time and were told sorry, but withdraw but that instruction came down from command as they were preparing to mount a push higher up in the village (building 23 and 11 I believe).

Seriously though, the tigers fought like ... well .. tigers. And it was much appreciated.

Defo, I was calling Uniform 2-0 for hours during the game and they were constantly focused their, right pain in the ass as it left Uniform 1 to hold the FOB in 17 and assault 13 and 20 for the hostages.

Hey guys just a quick one, as its now been 5 days of 20 hours a day flat out madness....and I have to work this afternoon (how on earth I am going to I don't know).

In a nutshell, you guys did me bloody proud! You went there and delivered and kept doing so all weekend with the type of game spirit I only wish I could get from all the players in the game.

For your information, I was told by a number of marshals on various occasions how well the Irish played and how much you all got stuck in.

So well done and thank you to all. :)

Well done Ian. Was a great weekend with great marshaling as well.

Really looking forward to the next in Sept.

We promise to bring a tent next time.

I'm still drying gear out. Couldn't have coped without the GoreTex. Seriously, the boot liners are absolutely fantastic.

Who won? Airsoft. There's always enough of these stories left open for the sequel. And I collected by far the biggest bag of used pyro on Sunday, so I won :) It's a pity we didn't get any fires lit on Saturday night though.

Sorry if I let anyone down by only playing for about 5 hours; with the driving and the weather and the marshaling (honoured) and the chopping & changing it was all a bit less Ready On Deck than I had planned, and I didn't get to play with all the squads I had hoped to. But it was a blast anyway.

Thanks to everyone. You all did us proud.

All I can say is that I had a Ball, the weather put some people off but I have to say we in Section 1.3 revelled in it and thought it added that bit more realism to the whole thing as in "it wasn't meant to be easy"

and thanks to all the lads playing on the opposition who guaranteed us a 24 hour none stop adrenaline rush with consistent wave upon wave of attackers bearing down on us, it was brilliant, our official section name was Zulu 1-3 and at times in building 22 it felt like we were getting our own taste of what it was like in the Battle of Rorke's Drift :)
It was also great to put faces to names here on boards such as Pudding, Lemming and Oz Cam and all the others
and finally thanks to Ian and the lads for having us over

thank you all for making my weekend one to remember and giving me stories to laugh about over a few beers with the lads.

    Nice one
