Good God, Boards badly needs a policy about comments concerning people who have just died,
don't know how many i have missed but the Jane Goody,Michael Jackson,Gerry Ryan posts joking and showing hatred while a corpse is still warm is just plain wrong!!!

I know like us all, mods/admins can never know the time or the place of a death.

as i have just stumbled on this thread i can only guess what the deleted posts contained, Well done the Mod(s) who were on the ball.

Nobody wish's to see free speech become a No No on boards.and criticism of whoever died deserves a place for those who feel that way.

Seriously those who want to comment on their Joy at the death of Anybody, You will get the chance,

So why not just hold Your fire and show a bit of basic human decency?
It does not matter who has died or what terrible things they may have done during their lives.

by jumping on a dead corpse of a person You may despise for their actions during their lives,You just make Yourselves lower than the deceased person YOU think was a scumbag.

Try a bit of self modding instead of looking for immediate attention to Your views please.

No, it varies from thread to thread, one day its fine, the next its a bannable offence depending on who it is.

    Nevermind.

    R.I.P. Gary Coleman.

So we can't take the piss then?? I thought this was AH, the place where ya could have a laugh, just like in the pub. I know if i was in the pub right now we'd be rippin the jokes out

    Poor little man.

I remember him doing commercials in Chicago when I was a little kid (we're actually the same age). I still have the phone number burnt into my psyche 252-1155. I know that he had a few medical ailments growing up (kidneys mostly I believe) that affect his growth.

Like most childhood stars he wasn't prepared to do anything else in life once his acting career dried up, and was always going to be cast in the same sort of roles (until Emanuelle Lewis came along and got all of the 'short black child roles).

I was actually shocked when I saw that he was in the hospital this morning, but I never expected to read that he would end up 'four feet under'.

    God bless and godspeed Gary.

Honestly do people read posts before jumping in?

There is taking the piss and there is just plain really ugly bad taste.

Let a corpse at least get cold before the pisstaking!

Just to clarify. I would never take the piss out of someone who has passed, no matter what I thought of them in real life.

Oh people stop being so pissy. We joke about death; That's how we deal with it.
    Stop the bloody moaning.

I'd say he's regretting doing that song, "here come the men in black" now.

I don't believe You would, and Like i said it is just human decency, should not need modding, just cop-on by posters.

But Ynotdu, posting a mild joke or pun is not the same as expressing joy at a death - it's done by those who are neither sad nor joyous about the death, just not affected.

    Hi Dudess,
my point is just to allow a little bit of time to pass before the erm 'fun' begins.

the family of Gerry Ryan asked for a short News blackout by RTE before the News was public.

unrealistic really of RTE to to expect that.

    Miriam'O'Callaghan had tweeted it.

a poster on boards got an SMS from the Ambulance crew who collected his body and posted it on boards.

Think the fella you're referring to is Todd Bridges; unless this is a joke i didn't get.
    Anyway, RIP, Mr. Coleman.

What can we poke fun at? Serial killers, sexual assault? All threads that have cropped up full of jokes with not one complaint in them.

That's double standards. The Mod who culled all the threads containing even the merest pun, made a joke in a thread about a girl who was sexually abused in a doctors office this morning.

That's what makes no sense to me.

    By taking out the verb?
'adultery', 'pen to paper' and 'to a loving relationship' aren't crimes either.

For some reason I thought Gary Coleman was a lot older, that he was in his thirties making Diff'rent Strokes.
And he actually worked as a security guard... what were the other applicants like?

Modding is an imperfect science; if you wish to you could find any number of contradictions in how it's practiced in any forum.
I guess the Mods go on the context of the joke; some of the 'jokes' removed were probably just insults masquerading as humour.
Then, there is the whole thing of comedy = tragedy + time.

Well he was unimportant to many who didn't know him. Doesn't mean they wouldn't see it as a tragedy though.

I have often noticed that modding changes by a Mods mood in forums, but that is Human nature.

posters have responsibility too not to bring Boards down to a cess-pool level, even in the wide charter of AH's, again it is just down to how low a poster wants to stoop.

Cess-pool sites are all over the Net,it does not mean boards have to be there alongside them.
If so well why choose boards over another?
