they had 8 16gb Wifi left. Had a good few of the other types in stock too, but, they were expecting a rush. No one really knew that they would have them apparenty, but there were adverts in the Northern Papers that apart from Apple Store, no where else would have them so they were expecting a rush. If you check the PC World websie there is a stock checker page, I'd look at that before going anywhere mate

The UK have iBookstore paid content now. Does anyone know if this is up on the Irish store as well? How do the prices compare?

Irish store still doesn't have them.

Just back from heading up to sprucefield. There was barely anyone in pc world when I was there. They said that the only model they didn't have was the 16 gb wifi + 3g. I imagine they still have a good few of the others.

    Got a 32gb 3g model myself. :)

Works grand, though sometimes the menus don't expand right underneath the main category titles but instead on the other side of the screen like they're do on the iPhone if viewing the full site. It's not as big a problem on the ipad.

Do most iPhone apps also work on the iPad?

I have an app for viewing cctv remotely on the iphone, but the screen is so small it's not great. Would this work on the iPad?

Just wondering, as I got 1 yesterday and haven't opened it yet as I still haven't decided if I should indulge and keep it or sell it (financial situation is pretty poor at the moment:mad:)

I get a network error when I enter the correct details. I get an authentication error when I purposely enter the wrong login details.

Hmmm, that hasn't happened to me yet.

I've come across quite a few sites that don't work with the ad. Sites that use flash to make client side controls are obvious but I have also had trouble with some sites that don't have flash. Always seems to be the same thing: the site works until i log in and then it won't update with account details.

This happened on screen click and codemasters' online site and a couple of others.

Don't mean to hijack the thread folks but seeing as most people in this one seem to have an iPad I was wondering if anyone is getting freezes during video playback? It has happened to me during YouTube and vimeo play. After reading several forums it seems to be a hardware issue. Any thoughts?

Link to Apple forum discussing issue.

Nope - honestly never heard of it happening either

Maybe its the wi-fi connection in general

Got mine yesterday - it's growing on me. I planned on using it for casual browsing, which is fine, but I also wanted to read PDF's on it. I have a bank of about 40 PDFs which I'd commonly use - is there any way to keep all these on the iPad itself and dip in and out of them as I see fit?

I use Memeo, it synch's with Google docs for offline viewing and supports loads of different doc types.

    Just a heads-up lads,

Zagg have a 50% off sale today only!

So you can get the iPad skin for under €20 delivered:

    iPad - Wi-Fi Only
    iPad - 3G + Wi-Fi

Like I said, it'll work out at $23.48 (or under €20) delivered.

These skins are the absolute "dogs balls" - I already have one for my iPhone and they protect the screen, and keep it smudge-free but still retain all the sensitivity.

    I can't recommend them enough!

PS - I've even bought one for the iPad I haven't even bought yet! :D

no, not the wifi. i have tested 2 iphones (a 3g and a 3gs) on the same wifi at the same time, before and after lockup and the iphones still stream.

you could also use dropbox (free) and goodreader ($1). both must-have apps.

Would an iPad be an option in the following circumstance as alternative to a laptop.

Other half, only took up computers less than 2 years ago. Knows her way around laptop now. Ok at googling and email. Using microsoft word to type up docs for some part time college course she is doing. That goes ok, till it comes to saving the documents, when all hell breaks loose. Usually doesn't know where she saved doc, if she saved doc, or what she called doc, and then if its a matter of saving onto a USB stick, well then it's a matter of :D:D:mad::):cool::cool::pac::pac::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: , if you know what I mean.

I'm guessing the iPad may be more intuitive, and easier to become competent on it.
    Fine for email and browsing.
Question being, would it be ok, for fairly light duty word processing, and infrequent and simple basic spreadsheets??
Would my OH, find it a more user friendly tool?

    Thanks

    B

Your other half is the iPad's primary target market I would say.

None to be had here in NY. Rang the Apple store Saturday morning to see if they had stock or if I could reserve one. No stock and at least a weeks waiting list.

iphone user of two years standing, iPad since Saturday.

Finding auto-correction very annoying and different to the iPhone. Typically all manner of words are having capital letters added to them, right in the middle of sentences. Examples:

    For
    Your
    Guy
    One

    And so on.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,213 ✭✭✭culabula

Oh -and most annoying of all -The, instead of the. This did not happen on iPhone.

Maybe it is time to have a thread where people can give short reviews of iPad software from the App Store and Cydia.

    I always liked this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055689569

Am finding it very difficult to find useful information on the subject.
