Don't think so I'm afraid - over a week ago the pro-order ''ships by'' date on the website changed to june 7th. Don't reckon there'll be any lying around. What you might get is, the next day, someone didn't pick theirs up and it goes back on sale. Want to be there at 9am though, and be prepared to run around every retail outlet in Newry!

I was hoping to pick up an iPad this weekend but I'm working Saturday. Nothing prebooked yet. What are the chances of getting one if I was to hop in the car Sunday?

The pre-ordering was for home delivery, the number of units allotted to that would be independent of in-store amounts i'd say. There was no in-store prebooking available in UK like there was in the US. I think if you're in a store early on the 28th you'll stand a good chance. I plan on being in the Belfast Apple store as close to 9 as possible.

But it's been live for a couple days? I bought ipad apps bout 3 days ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

You could buy iPad apps but you couldn't access the iPad store from the actual iPad with an Irish iTunes account.

Not too many apps on the Irish iPad store - il be keeping my US account for a while it seems

Graham, you mentioned in point 14 about bringing your laptop to get the iPad going. I'm heading to Florida next week and hope to pick one up, is it just a matter of logging in to you iTunes account and registering as you would with an iPod etc? Thanks, this is a great thread.

IIRC that's all there is to it.

hi graham ive got a few questions

    1. How do you find the portrait on-screen keyboard?

    2. in terms of some sort of rest to put the ipad on even when on the train etc is it possible to get one?

    3. I heard a mention that the ipad comes with a bag pouch for it, is this true?

    4. Is it possible to download ipod/iphone applications using the ipod?

    5. How are ipod/iphone applications displaying on the ipad?

Any info would be grately appreciated.
    Cheers!

I just got my iPad today and have to say it is what I expected and more.
Is there any way for us in Ireland to sign up for Netflix or do we need an american credit card?
    Cheers.
    Sham.

    1. How do you find the portrait on-screen keyboard?
For large amounts of typing I'd usually hold the iPad landscape. Portrait is fine for entering smaller amount of text.

    2. in terms of some sort of rest to put the ipad on even when on the train etc is it possible to get one?
Get the apple case if you can, the wedge position is really useful.

    3. I heard a mention that the ipad comes with a bag pouch for it, is this true?
    Nope

    4. Is it possible to download ipod/iphone applications using the ipod?
    Yes

    5. How are ipod/iphone applications displaying on the ipad?
They look ok (only ok though), I tend to stick with iPad specific wherever I can.

@sham69 Netflix will block non Us IP adresses, in hence you will need to use a VPN service based in the United States to watch their movies.
Kheldour offers a great tutorial on how configure this on your iPad (originally reguested for Mexico, but it will work for Europe(Ireland) as well ) at http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-help/2704-watch-abc-app-netflix-app-outside-us-mexico-2.html

I stumbled upon a nice collection with some cool apps to have at http://ipadappsplus.com/ipad-apps/best-ipad-apps-top-50/
Sketchbook and Korg iElectribe look really good. Both are $18, a little expensive for me at the moment, but taking into consideration that a PC software with that capabilities costs around $50, it definitely worth it.

    Cheers for the reply
I have the netflix app on the ipad and have the VPN sorted
Problem I am having is setting up the netflix account
I used a fake us address but when entering my credit card details it is asking me for a billing zip code?
It was defaulted to 90210 as I used a fake Beverley hills address but card was rejected
Tried some others but there doesn't seem to be a way around this
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

The UK have iBookstore paid content now. Does anyone know if this is up on the Irish store as well? How do the prices compare?

I dont think so - Argos arent getting them for at least 2 months and a couple of other places said they arent expecting them for a while
Wish i knew that before i made the trip :(

I'm in the states at the moment and thinkng of buying one. If I do get one I have to buy an adaptor pack if I want to charge from the
    mains?
Also what's the official limit for customs? €430? If so, it may be touch and go with the drop in the Euro for the 16gb one.

Is there anything else I need? I have a US iTunes account already.

    Thanks :).
