I doubt the credibility of that list. Hell, I doubt the credibility of any list that puts Chinas military before that of Russia.

I wouldn't doubt it. Of course that list does not include nuclear weapons.

Korea won't do anything, they must know they don't stand a chance. China don't want to lose American dollars not to mention the rest of the worlds money.

I'd say this bit of propaganda is solely for the poor people of North Korea.

You can bet the like of sky news/fox news will be wetting themselves at the prospect of another war since the Iraq conflict as well as Afganistan are so last decede.

What has that got to do with the North Korean government telling their populace they won the war. You still haven't backed this statement up:

"they'll be told they won it."

To be fair I wouldn't doubt these things. They did claim that Kim Il-Jong had 11 holes in one during his first ever round of golf.

    S. Korean Puppets' Moves for Confrontation and War Flailed

Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet authorities finally issued the "results of investigation" in which they groundlessly linked the case of the sinking of a warship with the DPRK despite the accusations and protest at home and abroad. This is an intolerable provocation against the DPRK and an undisguised declaration of a war against it. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed commentary.
The commentary goes on: It is also an intentional and premeditated plot to push the inter-Korean relations to total collapse and ignite a war of aggression against the DPRK in collusion with their U.S. and Japanese masters under the pretext of the ship case.

The ship case was an unprecedented charade crafted by the group of traitors keen on escalating confrontation.

The "investigation into the case" was nothing but a red herring as it was aimed to zealously spread a rumor about the "north's involvement in the case" and thus fan up atmosphere for extreme animosity toward fellow countrymen and confrontation with them among south Koreans of different circles and, at the same time, openly unleash a war of aggression against the DPRK in collusion with foreign forces under the pretext of what it called "security crisis".

A saying goes a club is fit for a mad dog. The army and people of the DPRK will never pardon the group of traitors getting hell-bent on confrontation and war, dare taking issue with fellow countrymen.

We do not know empty talk.

The reckless racket of the puppet forces will lead to a dirge of the traitorous clique.

I mean bloody hell! the title alone of the article is laughable and sad at the same time.

It could get awfully messy, but I doubt anything will really happen. China has tacitly supported NK since the Korean war, when themselves, NK and Russia attacked South Korea. Kim also makes a handy little distraction to draw attention away from whatever China is up to.

However the North hasn't the military capacity to take the South in a one-to-one scrap (most of their equipment dates from the 1970s), even with Chinese support, unless the Chinese get openly involved in a war with the US, which would destroy their economy utterly as Sino-US trade and EU-China trade falls apart overnight.

So the Chinese won't give lil' Kim the nod (note the Dear Leader's recent and almost unprecedented visit to Beijing), South Korea will get its pound of flesh by confining NKs ships to their ports for a few years, and then it will slowly swing back to business as usual.

Of course, if all of the above is wrong, its pretty much every man for himself, as if China and the US get involved in a hot war, Taiwan, Burma, and other areas will explode as well, along with the high probability of Iran making moves via insurgents across its porous border with Iraq while the US has its hands very much full, which will probably cause Israel to do something we all might regret. Plus there's the whole massively interconnected global trade network thing as well, even if China does back off to stay afloat, a LOT of stuff comes from South Korea. In the worst case scenario there is no limit to how bad the damage could get.

Having read quite a few of your active posts in the Politics forum it is surprising and disappointing to see your lack of knowledge when it comes to the Korean peninsula conflict.

China (and the Soviets?) only became involved in the Korean war after the South, aided by the UN (US-led coalition - Soviets didn't veto as they were protesting PRC's exclusion in favour of the ROC) approached the Chinese border. General MacArthur being in favour of crossing the Yalu river and in fact quite happy to nuke the red Chinese too. Were it not for the Americans getting overzealous (the US President ultimately discharging MacArthur for his rash actions) the Chinese might have never intervened and we wouldn't have the 38th parallel problem today.

Anyway in regards to the OP's question - the two Koreas fire shells at each other every so often and you get these incidents (the one before the current sinking one left a NK patrol ship aflame). Whether this will get hot or not - isn't really within anyone's control - China nowadays has little leverage on NK besides supplying them with a huge amount of food aid and industrial machinery. A despot when backed into a corner might do crazy things...

As for the world cup - the South had originally planned to transmit the images of the matches to the North for free...obviously now that's been cancelled.

I can still remember back to the Athens and Sydney Olympic Games where the two marched under the same banner...seems like a long time ago now.

As someone living in Korea, let me just say..

It's not as bad over here as the western media will have you believe. People aren't stock piling with the anticipation of war, no one is running around scared that we will be attacked.

In fact the only things people are buying in bulk are Korea world cup supporters items like scarfs, t-shirts, headbands, flags and even flip flops. The atmosphere is relaxed over here and everyone is just looking forward to the world cup.

(Article) The big lie selling you war with North Korea.

"Nor do I need to elucidate on the many reasons why the US Government is in desperate need for yet another war with which to scare the American people into acceptance of more takes and fewer rights and freedoms.

Anyone with half a brain realizes that the US Government, unable to gain support for an invasion of Iran, has changed gears and decided that North Korea will be the next step towards World War III".

What was that quote made by Kennedy in the '60s. Any nuclear attack on an ally of the US is the same as an nuclear attack on the US itself and will be treated as so.

I think that was ment to be part of the mutually assured destruction on the release of any tactical nuclear weapon so nobody would use them.

The only nation to ever use nuclear weapons against another nation can make all the rules, eh.:pac:
