Looks like things are spiraling out of control pretty fast over there, Is war "inevitable" (in best team america Kim Jong-Il accent) at this stage or is the DPRK just postruring?

    http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE64O3YU20100525
The following are key points from the text of the report issued by the North's KCNA news agency.

"The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea, accordingly, formally declares that from now on it will put into force the resolute measures to totally freeze the inter-Korean relations, totally abrogate the agreement on non-aggression between the north and the south and completely halt the inter-Korean cooperation.

"In this connection, the following measures will be taken at the first phase:

"1. All relations with the puppet authorities will be severed.

"2. There will be neither dialogue nor contact between the authorities during (South Korean President) Lee Myung Bak's tenure of office.

"3. The work of the Panmunjom Red Cross liaison representatives will be completely suspended.

"4. All communication links between the north and the south will be cut off.

"5. The Consultative Office for North-South Economic Cooperation in the Kaesong Industrial Zone will be frozen and dismantled and all the personnel concerned of the south side will be expelled without delay.

"6. We will start all-out counterattack against the puppet group's 'psychological warfare against the north.'

"7. The passage of south Korean ships and airliners through the territorial waters and air of our side will be totally banned.

"8. All the issues arising in the inter-Korean relations will be handled under a wartime law.

"There is no need to show any mercy or patience for such confrontation maniacs, sycophants and traitors and wicked warmongers as the (South Korean President) Lee Myung Bak group."

    Nutters tbh.

China seem reluctant to say anything bad against the North aswell. I mean they said that the loss of 41 South Koreans was an unfortunate incident.

The heads of North Korea are living in another era of thinking. The dark ages.
It might be trouble, it might not. It could (hopefully) be the usual sabre rattling - done once in a while to keep the proles (See "1984" & George Orwell) unified and distracted from the harshness of the nutty regime they live under.

It's not blank, that's an accurate map of North Korea's infrastructure.

    That is, none.

The north is estimated to have the fifth largest army in the world  1.2 Million Men (20% of the male population) vs half a million in the south and about 30,000 US troops. Who knows what China has by the North

Yeah, and a fúck load of millitary equipment gained from the Soviets. I think people often get distracted by the comical, Team America version of N.Korea and forget that in a real open ended war the North would kick the Souths ass.

It could get awfully messy, but I doubt anything will really happen. China has tacitly supported NK since the Korean war, when themselves, NK and Russia attacked South Korea. Kim also makes a handy little distraction to draw attention away from whatever China is up to.

However the North hasn't the military capacity to take the South in a one-to-one scrap (most of their equipment dates from the 1970s), even with Chinese support, unless the Chinese get openly involved in a war with the US, which would destroy their economy utterly as Sino-US trade and EU-China trade falls apart overnight.

So the Chinese won't give lil' Kim the nod (note the Dear Leader's recent and almost unprecedented visit to Beijing), South Korea will get its pound of flesh by confining NKs ships to their ports for a few years, and then it will slowly swing back to business as usual.

Of course, if all of the above is wrong, its pretty much every man for himself, as if China and the US get involved in a hot war, Taiwan, Burma, and other areas will explode as well, along with the high probability of Iran making moves via insurgents across its porous border with Iraq while the US has its hands very much full, which will probably cause Israel to do something we all might regret. Plus there's the whole massively interconnected global trade network thing as well, even if China does back off to stay afloat, a LOT of stuff comes from South Korea. In the worst case scenario there is no limit to how bad the damage could get.

Not really with Blanket bombing from the US and a possible MAD if the North have the capability, however they have at least a threat of Nuclear which would stop the Americans and South Koreans from using a first launch capability incase of MAD, the North Koreans would make the war alot harder for the US and SK to win but they'd still do it but it would be messy.

I disagree, they only way the North could win would be with a significant influence from China and that would lead to the intervention of the US.

    http://www.globalfirepower.com/

South Korea is ranked 12th while the North is 20th.

This ball grabbing posturing happens every few years, nothing to worry about.

If the U.S got involved it could mean China or even Russia joining the war on the Norths side. The North have one million troops stationed across the border.

If war was declared Seoul would be captured within a month. No doubt in my mind.

I doubt the credibility of that list. Hell, I doubt the credibility of any list that puts Chinas military before that of Russia.

Yeh its Kim Kong just asserting his power, they reckon he is making way for his son to take over. Plus the south Koreans have been getting a lot more international credibility lately with the G20 summit and all

Theres no way China would go to war with America over NK, they're embarrassed by them if anything

Korea won't do anything, they must know they don't stand a chance. China don't want to lose American dollars not to mention the rest of the worlds money.

I'd say this bit of propaganda is solely for the poor people of North Korea.

    S. Korean Puppets' Moves for Confrontation and War Flailed

Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean puppet authorities finally issued the "results of investigation" in which they groundlessly linked the case of the sinking of a warship with the DPRK despite the accusations and protest at home and abroad. This is an intolerable provocation against the DPRK and an undisguised declaration of a war against it. Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a signed commentary.
The commentary goes on: It is also an intentional and premeditated plot to push the inter-Korean relations to total collapse and ignite a war of aggression against the DPRK in collusion with their U.S. and Japanese masters under the pretext of the ship case.

The ship case was an unprecedented charade crafted by the group of traitors keen on escalating confrontation.

The "investigation into the case" was nothing but a red herring as it was aimed to zealously spread a rumor about the "north's involvement in the case" and thus fan up atmosphere for extreme animosity toward fellow countrymen and confrontation with them among south Koreans of different circles and, at the same time, openly unleash a war of aggression against the DPRK in collusion with foreign forces under the pretext of what it called "security crisis".

A saying goes a club is fit for a mad dog. The army and people of the DPRK will never pardon the group of traitors getting hell-bent on confrontation and war, dare taking issue with fellow countrymen.

We do not know empty talk.

The reckless racket of the puppet forces will lead to a dirge of the traitorous clique.

    http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm

I mean bloody hell! the title alone of the article is laughable and sad at the same time.
Someone tell them to speak without the double-dutch.
