I'd say it's an urban myth rather than something anyone would actually do.
Anyone cruel enough to do it is facing being ejected from the club, if not getting a bruising from said lady, or her friends.

Well apparently, the guy starts dancing with the girl behind her and she thinks this is great. He then starts whispering in her ear "You're the ugliest, fattest.. etc. etc." and that it takes her a while to understand what he is saying and sure by that time I think the girl would be more upset than anything else and run off and not tell her friends.

No, a guy I was talking to in the pub mentioned this to the group. I can't remember what the conversation was about. But he then said he never did it himself but a group of guys he knew of.

Yeah maybe he was making it up.He certainly made it clear he didn't do this. I was just really shocked by it.

It's cruelty of the playground variety that even most kids would probably be too classy to stoop to.
I hope there aren't too many adults running around thinking this is fun.

I'd say about 0.01% of the people who talk about this have actually done it or even seen it being done. In all reality, the most likely outcomes would be:

a) Getting knee'd in the balls by the girl
b) Bouncers forcefully throwing you out of the club
c) Bouncers restraining you until the gardai arrive, and then getting arrested and charged with assault

The majority of clubs have cctv now and you can't just go around grappling members of the public to see how long you can hold on for. Unless you want a good beating or a criminal record.

So as much as I'd like it to be true, this whole thing is most likely bs.
