Gut bacteria in your stomach can alter neuropeptides in your brain to make you desire food that the bacteria prefers. You think you want that cake or do your gut critters want that cake?

I can't find a source on this but I read it in a book so it MUST be true:

Americans consume on average 9lb of fecal matter each year in food. :P

The guy who did the voice of Bugs Bunny was allergic to carrots

If you multiply 111,111,111 by itself, you get 12,345,678,987,654,321

The word 'Armageddon' comes for the belief that the final battle between good and evil will take place in a place called 'Mar Megiddo'. And even though there has never been a place with that name, there is a mountain called Mount Megiddo, beside which an ancient civilisation used to live.

There are only six confirmed signatures of William Shakespeare in existance

Only 4% of the universe is visible, 96% of it is missing

I'd say there's about 10% of that sentence missing also :pac:.

Well known brands of medication (eg headache tablets, antihistamines) are more effective than cheaper, less known names even if both contain exactly the same ingredients. This is due to the same psychological processes that cause the placebo effect, so it does pay to spend a little more.

Here's my two cents. Heard all these before so no links. Feel free to disprove any of these, they are just ones I heard before...
    • There are more Chinese people living in Dublin than Dublin people
    • The average person eats 8 spiders in their lifetime (in their sleep)
    • The earth has a second "moon" It's called Cruithne. Although I think it actually orbits the sun but it appears to follow the earth. I really should look it up but, meh...
    • Polar bears fur is actually transparent - the white appears from the reflection of loads of other colours combining and only "appearing" to be white
    • If every Chinese person jumped at the same time it would send the world into a new orbit (and probably kill us!)

    False.

Absolute nonsense. This 'fact' was created by someone who wanted to prove how easy it was to spread false information on the internet snopes
    • The earth has a second "moon" It's called Cruithne. Although I think it actually orbits the sun but it appears to follow the earth. I really should look it up but, meh...
Nope, it's an asteriod and it orbits the sun

    True

The world's tallest man ever recorded in the history of mankind - Robert Wadlow, was born in Alton, Illinois, in 1918, and was 6 feet tall by the time he was even eight years old. He suffered from the disorder Gigantism that makes the lower portions of the body extremely large, while the head and torso remain at normal sizes. This is caused by a pituitary gland tumor that excretes large amounts of growth hormone, resulting in the disorder that is technically called as acromegalic gigantism. He reached a final height of 8 feet 11 inches at the age of twenty-one years, and finally died of an inflamed leg.
