Dylan Moran > Tommy Teirnan all day long

Don't really have any particular opinion on most of the people listed. I like Colin Farrell as an actor.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    Dermot Morgan (R.I.P)>Tommy Teirnan imo

Both very funny people but Dermot was just hilarious.

I don't think anyone in Ireland begrudges a fellow Irish-persons sucess.
They are hated because they sound trite and full of sh !Te when they make it big.

    ;)

Some of you people were obviously offended by Tommy's Polish comment, I never realised there was such sympathy towards our Polacy :D

Tommy Tiernan rocks, I think the more important thread should be on why so many people in Ireland have bad taste :p

F*cking hate people who say the Irish are begrudgers. If someone is a c*nt I will call them a c*nt even if they're rich celebrities tbh. That's not begrudgery. A lot of Irish people who do well for themselves are great and we have a lot to be proud of, but some people let it go to their heads.

I thought he was terrible in all his films except In Bruge, where I thought his acting was decent enough. The rest of the films he was pretty useless.

He's nowhere near the standard of the Nee' and the Glee'.

I am not obligated to like a celebrity just because they are Irish. I like some Irish "celebs", dislike others. Nationality is irrelevant in establishing whether or not someone's a tool.

Bono, Tommy Tiernan, Colin Farrell, Roy Keane - all hated by the majority of Irish people.

Do you think the Irish in general hate their own reaching a level of international fame? Or are the above listed just cnuts? :D

I personally think Ireland has its share of interesting and engaging and decent celebrities, but the list here is spot on as regards out and out twats.

Keane isn't really a celeb, but he comes across as a very unlikable and sullen
    individual.

Bono? I have said enough on this runt.

Farrell? Well, here's the thing with Colin, he always always appears to be acting.
The biggest poser and scruff we have. Where is all the crude and coarse language
gone? That was all part of his act, just like the fidgeting and picking is part of his
    act today.

Tommy? Just a very irritating and unfunny man. Thrives on being controversial, but the controversy is just plain awful

I'm pretty sure he's not. I doubt many outside the Irish diaspora even know who he is.

The UK comedy website chortle chose him at number 2 in the top 50 Comedy performances of the last decade only a few weeks ago.

The ideal Irish celeb is Paul McGrath of George Best we likes our idols to be troubled

What about Phil Lynott. Very famous in his day and, from what I hear, the whole country really loved him.

On the Tommy Tiernan thing - I dont think he is anything great. Dylan Moran and Dara O Brien are the dogs IMO

Tommy Tiernan is an unfunny pr1ck.

If the Irish begrudge their own neighbour that has managed to get a successful business going, then of course they'll begrudge someone who made millions (and tax it in Holland even though that's what every single person here would do too ;)).

Good point. You know, I don't blame anyone wanting to protect their money and if I could I too would do as Bono is doing; but I wouldn't then have the brass Dublinese neck (and I'm a Dub) to lecture my fellow man on where his/her tax should go.

An observer of life, a bit like Billy Connolly but Irish through and through.

Incredibly funny man in his day.:pac:

Certainly ahead of the game when it came down to the Catholic church.

Never heard of him before but having watched that clip.. hilarious.

That 'begrudgery' argument just doesn't hold water.

If it was true that the Irish hated certain Irish individuals because of their success then all Irish successful famous people would be hated and they are not.

The 'begrudgery' argument is used by people who can't face up to some unpleasant truths about themselves. They bandy the idea around so they can stay in denial.

I really dislike Van Morrison because he is a narcissistic, arrogant navel gazing twat who reveres his own 'legend' more than we do.

I dislike Bono also because he is a nasty little narcissist and parasite who uses 'causes' like Africa and Aids to force his music on us whether we want it or not.

U2 are a product not a band, endlessly promoting themselves cynically parasiting off the suffering of the third world to feed their own egotistical need for fame. It's shameful and nauseating. The muzack produced is offensive as well.

Rory Gallagher and Phil Lynnott were two TRUE Irish musicians to be proud of. Unsurpassable.

I totally agree with Dylan Moran and Dave Allen being far superior comedians to Tommy Tiernan. TT never made me laugh, wheras Dylan Moran and Dave Allen I could watch all day.

Colin Farrell, I have no problem with. Also actor-wise I love Brendan Gleeson and Colm Meany. Down to earth men who get on with their professions and produce work to be proud of.

Dylan Moran is the best Irish comedian that's been mentioned so far.. Dara O'Brien is a plonker imo, always pointing out the difference between Ireland & England.. like we're really that bloody unsimilar..

    I'm with you Carlo_ray
Prime example is when people say "how did he/she aford that house/car/whatever? instead of being positive and taking note of their hard work, some people cant accept it and knock the person where possible.

Inrelation to TT, not a fan but everybody to there own :D:D

It's a little pathetic that being famous, talented and/or rich should somehow confer immunity from ridicule and dislike. And that any criticism of such people is rationalized as jealously.

I've slagged off Bono on here plenty of times even though I acknowledge that the guy is talented and I like a lot of U2 music.

I'd say Dara O Briain is more famous, who is also another example of a successful Irish person who is not hated

Yes, I dislike him with a vengeance, but I don't hate him.

I'm a begrudger... in the sense that I begrudge totally unfounded "typical Irish begrudgery" comments from kunts who seem to forget that (a) They are also Irish and (b) They, like everyone, dislike certain successful people.

Aye thats true...but I would add Thierry Henry and that cowardly government we have to that OP's list and remove Tommy Tiernan tbh

Most Irish people don't like themselves, how on earth are they then going to like someone who has made a few bob and is 'living the dream'.

He does pack shows outside of Ireland and has reached a level of fame that gets him on the Letterman Show. Granted, most of the shows are packed with Irish.

cant remember the last time I saw tommy tiernan on letterman or any of the UK shows. He's a *****r full stop. shouty shouterson. plus he just got dropped from some major slot in Canada, his antisemitism precedes him. and for the record, I've not real problem with that one, the jews are easily offended, I just think he's ****e

I think its more the bitter attitude of most boards users. They are worse than the average Joe Duffy caller and I'm convinced they only found boards because they were looking for somewhere to moan and conplain about anything and anyone.

Out in the real world people are much more accepting of our "celebrities" and are even proud of some of their achievements.
