Bono, Tommy Tiernan, Colin Farrell, Roy Keane - all hated by the majority of Irish people.

Do you think the Irish in general hate their own reaching a level of international fame? Or are the above listed just cnuts? :D

Why isn't Stephen Ireland on the list?

Tommy Tiernan is a gobshite. An unfunny one at that.

Granted, I'm just going on the apparent consensus in AH but it's also where I'm posting. I never understand the vitriol towards Tommy Tiernan in here.

    The Irish are begrudgers!

I know this because i am an International Mega-star and people everywhere hate me!

Seems that the vocal minorities hate most Irish celebs unless they are critically acclaimed Hollywood actors

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭bluto63

Van Morrison? Rory Gallagher? Daniel Day Lewis?

We like good celebrities, not pricks

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,001 ✭✭✭recylingbin

Bono is so far up his own hole he can aee out through hia mouth.
    Tommy Tiernan isn't funny.
    Roy Keane took the soup.

I have no problem with Farrell/

Considering the amount of famous and successful Irish actors, such as Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and so forth, and I don't see any such hate for them. I'm not even sure people really dislike Colin Farrell that much, at least, nowhere near the same degree as Bono.

I think the whole "begrudgery" nonsense is overplayed to the extreme. It's just that a few famous Irish people also happen to be utter plonkers.

Van Morrison is famously a thundering prick. I am amused at Lewis being spelt as 'Luas' though. :D

Bono - great singer in a former great band, bit of a twat.

Tommy Tiernan - entertaining comdeian, shouts a lot, makes me laugh.

Colin Bleeeeeedin' Farrell - good actor, extremely handsome, some dodgy films, but still a decent actor.

Roy Keane - F*cking legend for Ireland, f*cking legend for Man Utd, bit of a nutjob at times, but when you're that close to genius, you are only a step the other way away from madness.

    I would imagine that if people were to hate any of them, it would be for the following reasons;

Bono - bit of a twat.

Tommy Tiernan - shouts a lot.

Colin Bleeeeeedin' Farrell - extremely handsome, some dodgy films.

Roy Keane - f*cking legend for Man Utd, bit of a nutjob at times.

I got transport on the brain :pac:
But there's no begrudgury towards Van. No one hates him because of his status or his success, they hate him because he's an asshole, which is perfectly fine :D

I think some Irish people have a problem dealing with the success of other Irish people Its jealously mainly. However, I don't think this applies to Tommy Tiernan. He's hated because he's supposed to be a comedian and he's in fact just an unfunny wank3r.

What on earth made you include him in that list btw??? Is he really that famous outside Galway?

He does pack shows outside of Ireland and has reached a level of fame that gets him on the Letterman Show. Granted, most of the shows are packed with Irish.

I'd say Dara O Briain is more famous, who is also another example of a successful Irish person who is not hated

Yeah.... the Letterman show is now being broadcast from Connemara.
That's why they had him on it.

I know he got on the letterman show, but he proved to be a total flop in the USA and reluctantly was forced back to Ireland.

now he only plays gigs in Ireland or to Irish audiences abroad and makes jokes about Jews and handicapped people. Dylan Moran and Dara O'Briain are Irelands real celebrity comedians. They both **** on Tiernan... **** on him good

Yea I know I avoid using it too. Don't want to appear like a total and utter twat using animated faces that are usually reserved for teenage girls' text messages.

I don't think anyone in Ireland begrudges a fellow Irish-persons sucess. I think we do resent the idea that they have "sold out" or changed their appearance/personality in order to conform to some international standard. For this reason we judge our own more harsly because we "knew them way back when" whereas the same is not true for celebs from other countries.

Of the above foursome I don't really hate any of them except for maybe Keane who I believe is a coward, a racist and a traitor. I honestly don't know what Bono is up to, whether his "help" is genuine in origin or just part of his rock-star persona. Farrell is alright and Tiernan is just a professional ****-stirrer.
Why isn't Stephen Ireland on the list?

Cos he's a never-was who's about 6 weeks away from becoming a has-been once Man City show him the door.
