Don't forget JFK. But he might not count since I know of one person who hated him

I don't use this smilie often as it annoys the hell out of me, but in this instance, I think it's appropriate:

    He's a tool imo.

If we are talking true Irish Comedians here then Brendan Grace has it sewn up.

Yea I know I avoid using it too. Don't want to appear like a total and utter twat using animated faces that are usually reserved for teenage girls' text messages.

Bono, Tommy Tiernan, Colin Farrell, Roy Keane - all hated by the majority of Irish people.

Do you think the Irish in general hate their own reaching a level of international fame? Or are the above listed just cnuts? :D

I don't think anyone in Ireland begrudges a fellow Irish-persons sucess. I think we do resent the idea that they have "sold out" or changed their appearance/personality in order to conform to some international standard. For this reason we judge our own more harsly because we "knew them way back when" whereas the same is not true for celebs from other countries.

Of the above foursome I don't really hate any of them except for maybe Keane who I believe is a coward, a racist and a traitor. I honestly don't know what Bono is up to, whether his "help" is genuine in origin or just part of his rock-star persona. Farrell is alright and Tiernan is just a professional ****-stirrer.
Why isn't Stephen Ireland on the list?

Cos he's a never-was who's about 6 weeks away from becoming a has-been once Man City show him the door.

I'm pretty sure he's not. I doubt many outside the Irish diaspora even know who he is.

    Dave Allen
    Dylan Moran
    Dara O Briain

There's three of the top of my head that are more successful than him.

An observer of life, a bit like Billy Connolly but Irish through and through.

Incredibly funny man in his day.:pac:

Certainly ahead of the game when it came down to the Catholic church.

They are hated because they sound trite and full of sh !Te when they make it big. "Oh I love Ireland" and all that bs. You expect that from Yanks or Brits but the Irish don't buy that kind of c rap from their own.

For International Irish Superstars and RTE/TV3 "superstars" for that matter, its a case of ' do you not know who I am' syndrome with most of them. They claim they don't want the media attention or people recognising them in the street but still and all if you don't massage their big egos with a few requests for autographs/photos they go bulistic.

Its like Johnny Vegas said there on the telly the other night, Irish people don't really give a c rap about celebrities in general, we're a nation known for keeping out of their way. Thats why they all "love coming here".

I personally hate all celebrities in general. They make me sick when the talk out loud. I especially hate seeing them in the pub

He does pack shows outside of Ireland and has reached a level of fame that gets him on the Letterman Show. Granted, most of the shows are packed with Irish.

the most money i've ever wasted was on one of his shows in london, the place was about 1/3 full on a friday night. he was good when he started off, but if he stuck to telling jokes instead of insulting then he'd be selling places out.
daire o'brian, ardal o'hanlon, and dylan moran are way way ahead of him.
but they're no spike milligan either.

In fairness, you've not actually met any celebs.
