What about that Dutch girl that wanted to do a round the world boating challenge and was stopped via the courts? A 16 year old finished her journey to do the same last week afair.

I could have climbed everest too when i was 13 with the aid of a jet pack or similar device.

Quite the achievement, at that age I was building my own Everest of used tissues!

I don't think he should have been let do it though. Plenty of hardened climbers have died on Everest. If anything went wrong I doubt a 13-year-old would be able to cope.

When I hear stories like this or the 16 year old girl who sailed around the world I think "meh, can't be that hard then" .

So thats why I haven't done either of those things yet. Not enough of a challenge !!!!!!! :pac:

I think it's pretty negligent of the parents tbh. He probably gets everything he wants, parents just can't say no. It's not exactly cheap to climb everest!!

Obviosly fair play- for a 13 year old to do this is fantastic but like all mountaineering, sailing, yachting contests for people so young , it is a challenge exclusive to a first world elite ie a dozen or so countries.

How can it be truly a world record when only a handful of countries compete. - Only x amount of countries could fund and indulge such a contest.
Its not like Cameroon had a team there. Also what about missing out on education etc

All the other posters were saying he shouldn't have been allowed do it, he could have died. I'm fairly sure his parents were aware of this. He wouldn't have been allowed to do it if he wasn't an accomplished climber.

If you have enough money and your fit & conditioned you'll get up Everest.

Costs a minimum of $40k, the Sherpa's do all the work, you just bring lungs and legs.

They get pretty high some of those Nepalese kids, but it's usually glue sniffers in Kathmandu.
I can't see too many of them scaling Everest, tbh.

I think it's usually pushed by the parents - all this 'youngest ever' records. I think it's dangerous and the courts in Holland were right to stop the parents allowing their young daughter do something so dangerous as try to sail round the world single-handed. There was a documentary on TV aout a young English boy trying for the record - I think he held it for 2 weeks and was then over taken by an American who was 3 weeks younger than him. What parent in their right mind would let a 7 year old child fly?

It's not exactly easy either so I doubt it's some spoiled little twat who one they decided he wanted to climb Everest. My guess is the family is more than likely experienced climbers and this kid is just some extremely talented climber for his age.

Age is irrelevant here tbh, it's down to his physical and mental health / toughness tbh.
