Was watching TV3 a while ago. The Truth About Travellers. Pretty interesting program. But then an ad came on for a program they're showing examining the decreasing use in this country of the Irish language. And this serious examination of our native tongue, what did they name it?

    Cupla focal, focal use?

I want to meet the person who came up with that title and shake his hand!

Why is using a play on words disrespectful to our native language? Surely by using the language in the first place, shows it some respect & secondly - how the hell do you insult a language?

    you're right it isn't
it's impossible for it to dumb down even more
they really have shows for the braindead, such drivel and ****e

Tv3 is awash with celebrity trash and/or ripoff T.V programs from the yanks or Brits. Fact is it will never go away due to the brainless morons which account for most of the Irish population.

I don't think they're being disrespectful. Someone in TV3 just really loves puns. And crap television.

Did "the truth about travellers" delve into the source of heir income they use to buy new cars, vans houses etc? Or was it a PR excercise for travellers?

LOL @ the ad that showed a guy making somethign otu of tin. When was the lst time you saw a traveller actually do that?

I didn't see it but apparently they questioned guys about how they could afford certain things/where their money came from and the shifty answers spoke for themselves.

I like Henry McKeene, hear him on Newstalk quite a bit too, he kinda does the whole naive Louis Thereaux thing and gets some gems

I like him on Newstalk too. Wasn't over impressed with the TV programme, but that was due more to the poor production & bad editing by TV3. I have to say though, he looks completely different from what I expected - his voice makes him sound like a toff, but in reality, he looks more like a taxi driver.

the problem is the way in which irish is taught in schools and not the language itself we need more focus on actually speaking it like is done with the other languages rather than rhyming off grammar....i for one dont think it should be an opt out subject

Yeah I couldn't wait to see what he looked like, missed the first week and there were a load of women texting newstalk saying how sexy he was.
I had kinda pictured him as that dude who has that cokking at river cottage something or other show on channel 4 but as you said, taxi driver...

    How could TV3 dumb down?
That's like suggesting that Pele could've brushed up on the old football skills.
