A naive deluded person you are

Love these guys. You either agree with us or you're an idiot. I think that's how they sell their ideas to the working class for all those votes they get....

    7 arrested.

That's 7 more than were arrested for, perhaps, helping send this country into a decline we may never recover from.

But, hey, at least they didn't stand on a building and/or are commies!

Passed on a bus on the way in and out of town today, seemed to be more Gardai than actual protesters.

It has to be said though, you KNOW some of those gardai were chomping on the bit for there to be a scuffle! I believe sometimes the attitude of the gardai can influence a situation. And they seemed very much an aggitated presence today when I saw them!

We do need to take to the streets to show our disgust at the government and their safety netting of their rich country crippling buddies but in all honesty Storming a roof is not really the best idea though!

I hope the first protester who goes into the bank to terrify the staff there gets shot.

If that doesn't learn them, keep shooting.

Oh, what a short memory we have. There were various 'financial scandals' in this country in the early part of this decade concerning certain credit unions over their director expenses and lack of due-diligence in providing loans that occurred way before the current banking crises ever happened.

    Plus ca change, etc.

short memory you say? the early stages of this decade? what, in january and february of this year? jeeps, i didnt hear much about that.

i only joined the credit union in the last 3/4 years and since then i havent heard much scandal. nor have i seen many bailouts or downright ridiculousness of how they go on.

i'm in my early 20's. do you really think i was in the library consulting the history books before i opened my €20 a week account? well i wasnt, in case you're wondering. sure while we're at it; i might as well throw away my fulham jersey too. those damn brits, lest we forget.

now some people actually make an attempt to stand up for something, and we're dealt the above comments.

I really don't know what to fcukin think......:mad:

The sad thing most of these posters would'nt have the ball s to do something about the state of the country but will come online and complain about the people who do. Sad state of affairs tbh.

Some people on boards really seem to fetishise authority. It's not surprising considering they seem to enjoy the banks ****ing them.

As has already been said, these protesters aren't achieving anything.

I have nothing against people voicing their dissent, but only in a peaceful manner, and one that doesn't involve trespass. Greece is a prime example of what happens when a demonstration of this type goes too far, and their reputation comes out looking worse than ever. If people have problems with policies they should take it up with their TDs or the ministers by corresponding with them.

This is a democracy, and the Government of this country was elected by the majority of our society to take decisions on our behalf with regard to the running of the country. We can't second-guess every decision just because it is a little unsavoury. At the end of the Government's term we can assess its success (or otherwise) and then decide whether or not to re-elect them. We have a few tough years ahead of us, but if we all work together we should come out of it stronger than ever at the end.

    Nice party political broacast ;)

I find it hilarious that people pretend to worry about 'trespass' which is probably the most minor crime you could commit....yet have a weird absence of righteous indignation when it comes to the repeated enormous criminal fraud/corruption/neglect committed by bankers and politicians....

Are people actually that worried what the neighbours think...? Better to be seen as a population of champion sufferers that can take it in the ass over and over than to risk the neighbours knowing we are just a whisker away from Iceland or Greece...

Thing is ....they know....we are not fooling anyone ! The pretence is farcical.

Yes we know we have to take the pain but we don't have to smile politely as we are doing it. The problem with pretending everything is ok is the Govermnent are losing the run of themselves....they're not apologetic about what they've visited on us. They hold us in utter contempt, laws are getting more draconian. They're starting to push us around now.

We can take so much but they don't know where the line is. Its far from a democracy at the moment. Its a dictatorship.

I don't think there's anything in my post that would suggest I have any allegiance to a particular political party in this country. (I don't.)

You can't just decide which laws you like to suit your needs. The fact that you're calling it a "minor crime" to justify the protesters' actions doesn't change the fact that trespass is illegal.

We're not in nearly as deep as Greece or Iceland.

Both Cowen (link) and Bertie acknowledged their role in our current situation in the past few days. The fact is that, worldwide and especially in Ireland, mistakes were made in the past. Anyone who acted illegally in bringing this country to its current position should of course be brought to justice, but personally right now I'd rather let the Government continue with its plans to revive the economy as a matter of priority.

Out of curiosity, which laws, specifically, do you think have become more draconian of late?

Do you want to qualify that? How, precisely, is Ireland like a dictatorship at present?

    Of course I can.

I'm not trying to justify their actions. I dont care about their commie agenda or whatever they're propounding. But they did no harm to anyone.

I don't give a sh!te that trespass is illegal. They didn't even get done with trespass anyway. They got done for public order, in other words, doing stuff cops and politicians dont like that might get them on the news.

Both Cowen (link) and Bertie acknowledged their role in our current situation in the past few days.

HA! And you think that's a co-incidence? Its been done now for a reason. Ther is some sort of enquiry about to name and shame them. So their tardy 'mea culpa' is merely spin and maneuvering before they are named and shamed.
The fact is that, worldwide and especially in Ireland, mistakes were made in the past.

    'Mistakes'?

You've got to be kidding me. Wholesale deliberate economic vandalism. Political self preservation and protection for their building/banking cronies.

    Their hypocrisy is revolting.

I agree. But eventually I want heads on plates. I want people to do time and pay for what they have done. I don't forgive them. I'll allow them to continue with their recovery plan until the next election but then I want them punished, severely and painfully.

Drug laws, have a look at the huge thread on AH at the moment.
Do you want to qualify that? How, precisely, is Ireland like a dictatorship at present?

We are being ruled by a Govermnent that has no mandate. THEY decided we had to bail out Anglo simply telling us it wsa cheaper to bail to than to wind it down. We never got to see the figures we just have to take their word for it. Known proven liars. Thats just one example. We are not consulted about anything, it's forced on us and they tell us we have no choice as they pat us on the heads like babies.

No they have just added more drugs to the list of illegal ones. The basic laws and garda powers are still the same.

We are consulted at the general election. We vote people in to make decisions for us. It's how our country works and up until now it has worked fine.

Eh, Anarchism is not left or right wing...... Its about responsability and organisation. Unfortunatly like every political ideology, its not going to work unless everybody wants it to.Which they don't.

And on the protester bit, it wasn't till the Poll Tax riots that any body did anything. You can march around in circles till you're blue in the face but once you damage property or people, thats when the government can't ignore it. But when there is a small amount of semi-extreme (fed up people essentially) activists, its pretty easy to start questioning their motives and their actions.

At the end of the day, its all about motives.

Banks were motivated by profit, and screwed the country over.

The protesters are reacting to getting screwed over.

The law doesn't come into it when its institutions like Anglo Irish,Nike, Coca Cola.....they're all pretty **** morally. So go rob as many sneakers and smash as many windows as you want, just don't rob from the corner shop or damage the local park. There is a difference.Having said that, these protests won;t solve anything.

THe problem is that people who are involved in this kind of behaviour get overexcited and start attacking everything and it is always the layman who ends up with the upside down car or the empty stockroom. The combined intelligence of a mob is only equal to that of its stupidest member.

Of course everyone and me is pissed off we had to bail out the banks...

But ask these protesters what is their alternative?? And you'll be met with blank faces.

Without these banks, we'ld be much worse off than Greece!

100% agree. People don't realise the impact of the collapse of a bank. Yes we're ****ed, a lot of mistakes were made but i have yet to hear one decent suggestion on how to deal with the banks.

Completely true. Psychological studies on Mob Rule show the danger of things liek this. But at the same time,it was a bit of a ruckus and got media attention. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water- protesters might not be everyones cup of tea as far as they can relate to them, but they aren't the devil either.

All in all I think you are in the wrong country so. Perhaps a small island nation where you could be supreme ruler would suit your needs. But in this country the law is not optional and the system of government is not based on you. Sorry.
