Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    My top 10

Nothing Else Matters- This was the first Metallica song I listened to and what got me into Metallica, and imo their best despite what some Metallica fans might say about people who like the Black Album

One- Hardcore man, just hardcore. It was also the second song I heard so that's also a given

Welcome Home(Sanitarium)- This was a late song that I started listening to, but I bought the Master of Puppets album pretty late anyway. Good song and I also love some of the covers that were done by Anthrax and Corey Taylor

Sad But True- Just love the song, is all I can say

Master of Puppets- Another late song as said above but I have to admit, at first I wasn't sure about the song but it actually grew on me and became one of my favourites

Enter Sandman- Definately has to be on my list. Just great

The Unforgiven 2- Love all 3 of them but this one is my favourite of them

The Unforgiven- I think it deserves to get onto my list all the same

    Seek and Destroy-Love it

Harvester- Gotta go with Harvester as my last, it's an awesome song

    Oh FFS.

There is more music out there than fcukin Metallica.

Mods, would it be possible to have a Metallica super thread where everything can be stored. Its a near weekly thing at this stage that some inane thread is started about them, enough is enough surely.

Nobody's stopping anyone from creating threads about other bands. In fact I think there should be a thread done for a different band each week. My opinion of course.

We could do with a Metallica super thread though.

I'd personally be more likely to go in and read it than 2 or 3 seperate Metallica related threads.

What do you say Malice? You seemed like you were gonna start one a while back.

I agree but my point is that Metallica threads are always cropping up,a super thread would allieviate this,ya know.

Im far from a Metallica hater and I would hazard a guess that Ive been listening to them longer than you have been alive given your just super funny user name, what I hate is pointless threads like this one.

Was there not a vote thing on making a Metallica superthread to cut down the number of weekly 'tallica threads? Or was that not mod related?

Since a lot of people are waiting for Malice_ to do it I've decided that I'll do it. :)

All discussion of Metallica goes here.

That's it really, remember to keep it civil. :p

Apologies, I was actually going to create one after I saw that 10 best Metallica songs thread. I'll merge that thread in here after I've posted. Hopefully it won't mess things up too much.

I did a poll to see what the general consensus was and I think the majority of posters were in favour, I just never actually got around to it. That was probably due to the fact that there was a lull in new Metallica threads being created :).

They were lulling you into a false sense of security. Lulling I say!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

Okay I merged the threads but now the first few posts might not make a whole lot of sense. There doesn't appear to be an "unmerge" function so you're stuck with it the way it is :).

For the record my 10 favourite Metallica songs are:
    Ride the Lightning
    For Whom the Bell Tolls
    Fade to Black
    Creeping Death
    The Call of Ktulu
    Master of Puppets
    Sanitarium
    Orion
    One
    Harvester of Sorrow

whats the point? dumb f*cks will just make ANOTHER poxtallica superthread, amidst the other ones that were too dumbtallica to even notice the superthreads.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

The charter should be amended and Metallica threads should go the way of "yore ma" in After Hours.Any mention of them outside the superthread should result in a perm ban from the forum.*

The point is pretty obvious - keeping all Metallica discussion in one place. If new Metallica-related threads get created, I'll move them to this thread. If posters keep creating Metallica threads then I'll get out the oul ban-stick.

My top 10, in no particular order at all.

    Master of Puppets
    Four Horsemen
    Damage Inc
    Dyers Eve
    Harvester of Sorrow
    Fight Fire With Fire
    Creeping Death
    Orion
    Motorbreath
    Battery

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,399 ✭✭✭✭r3nu4l

At one time Metallica were brilliant. They had a point, they had youthful aggression, they had hunger, then sometime during the Black album they started to fade (fade...to Black?...geddit :D:()

There are some great songs on the black album and they have had one or two good pieces since then but overall they have become fat and tired and a pale shadow of their former selves.

My favourite songs? Hard to choose.

Orion (love listening to this when I'm driving for some reason)
    One
    Blackened
    The four Horsemen
    Battery
    Disposable Heroes
    Dyer's Eve
    Unforgiven
Mama Said (You heard me!)
    Anasthesia (pulling teeth)

EDIT: Love fade to black and For Whom the bells toll as well :D

I still love going a looking at the 96' European MTV music awards, now that's balls :P

Nothing touches 87' Hetfield live vocals as far as metal concerned for me.

I have fond memories of watching A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica back in 1992ish. The segment where they played Harvester of Sorrow in Moscow was amazing. You really could feel the energy from the crowd.

Going to see them both nights can't wait (I have exams the morning after both shows though :P) Unfortunately I could only get seating tickets. First Metallica concert I have gone to where I won't be in the front row :(
Id say we will get at least 8 Death Magnetic songs over both nights. Don't think they will play Whiskey though :P

There was a time (from around 86-91) when Metallica were the coolest band on the planet. Seen them in the Top Hat in October 89, both nights. Amazing. I`ve tried and tried to get into their last few albums but it`s no use. They just ain`t got it anymore. I wish it wasn`t so. I just keep it to the first four or five albums these days. (BTW - let`s not take this forum stuff too seriously)

yea they were at their peak in them years, whats makes Metallica so special for me is because on the estate were i lived growing up I was the only metaller everyone else was in to the emerging rave scene but i didnt give a fook what people said to me as I was just so into the music. I use have a getoblaster with the MOP RTL nad AJFA albums id bring out in the summer just to drown out all the gay rave music the others were playing!!!

Load was a decent album. ReLoad & St W****r were rubbish. Death Magnetic was a return to form, of sorts.
