I really wish people would stop moaning about 'the poor ordinary people of greece'. The reason they are in so deep is that the vast majority of them refuse to pay the correct amount of tax. The reason the tax burden is so high is that the government can only rely on a small number to actually pay. They dug this hole,let them lie in it.

(and dont get me started on someone named 'Baaa' critising the herd..) if the silent majority is happy, thats what democracy is all about...

That is some not all to do with it. Greece loses an estimated 30 billion per year on uncollected tax revenue. 30 billion. Tax evasion is endemic in the place. The EU loses out on subsidies paid out on crops that dont exist. The public sector overspend is mad. Anyone moaning about our civil service take note. Not even close. They were borrowing to beat the band to cover these losses that they could have clawed back, but didnt as it wasnt politically expedient. They also went mad with the countries credit card spending a fortune on all sorts of projects that went overbudget(the olympics as an example)If that isnt a house in disarray then I dunno what is. Imagine FF on crack handing out same to the developers and everyone else in Ireland and you may get close.

Meanwhile theres an Urban Legend that Canada unconditionally surrendered to a boat of Irishmen. And I don't even need to elaborate on the 'Plantations'.

Not to mention the stellar record of public protest, that I shouldn't need to elaborate on; but there's always been a lot of that "What's the point" attitude around these here boards.

"This is Greece, not Ireland, We'll fight back" may sting, but theres some truth in it.

Interesting piece just on Channel 4 news - a German politician had to basically admit they were also at fault for lending Greece - with knowledge of their insufficient tax raising, etc - all that money over the years.

The question is why wasn't something done about this sooner - prevention being better than cure? Sure Greece cooked their books when things got too bad, but it doesn't look good for Germany or the powers that be in Brussels that this was allowed to happen. Hence the markets reacting so badly.

Seems the riots are starting again tonight in Greece.

There is an apathy in Ireland... fueled by the greed of the Celtic tiger years... many people here would rather quietly hope that what our 'leaders' are doing will lead to salvation and save their mortagages and materialistic luxuries.

Seems like Ireland sold it's soul to the devil and has lost all will to justifiably rebel against subjugation.
