I was under the impression the family were seeking "privacy" following his death.
So they let the whole thing degenerate into a media and celebrity-wannabe beanfeast instead?

Where did his kids go to school again? I always noticed how different their accents are. They did really well with the readings.

God Bono is annoying. He only said a few words, and everyone of them was annoying! Nice song though. Hope he doesn't talk at the end now!!

I think the privacy they wanted was not having reporters, paps pestering the family as they grieve. I do think they wanted to celebrate his life with the nation

gerry was the voice of the nation for 22 years if you love him or hate him thats up to you but he helped many people and gave hope to the people of this country i am one fellow that really admired him he had no fear of telling the nation about his life and family he gave advise sometimes he talked rubbish and he ranted on about things he was the best radio broadcaster rte ever had and the listnership numbers tell that story i am one person that is glad his funeral is being broadcasted as i would love to go but i cant rip gerry

Had the radio on in the car there at lunch, this reminds me of the Wacko Jacko funeral, a bloody circus it is, cameras present/celebrities/state representatives etc.

Can anyone confirm if Jedward are there......

The eldest daughter would appear to be a poor mans Kim Kardashian, all falling into place for her now, expect the "reality" show soon.....

What happen to him? How did he pass away??

Something about drinking too much Coke I heard.

Why is Gerry Ryan giving a eulogy at his own funeral?

Seriously, his brother's voice sounds almost exactly the same.

He lived his life in the spotlight, what were you expecting? A small gathering and sambos in the local?

Very sad listening to his ex-wife. Very brave speech on her behalf.

It will be strange listening to 2fm in the mornings from now on.

An influential figure and he wish him well on his next journey.

Did his ex-wife just say a quote from Blade Runner and then the RTE announcer said it was a quote from Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A space odyssey

I don't see the problem with broadcasting the funeral over a webcast and the radio. He lived in the public eye, and had thousands if not millions of fans who would not be able to go to the funeral, so why not let them, the people who contributed massively to Gerry's success, be a part of celebrating his life?

RIP Gerry. Everyone may not have liked you, but everyone certainly had an opinion about you - the mark of a true star!
