A319/A320 have overwing WINDOW exits while the longer A321 has a total of 4 DOOR exits. All are single aisle aircraft (also the shrinked A318 with its single overwing window exit)

Thus the A321 (to the casual observer) more resembles the A330 which also has 4 door exits on each side. However the A330 doors are bigger, but in relation to the aircraft size look the same size as the A321 doors.

330 has winglets, 320/321 has wing fences.

I will be pedantic and suggest that the A320 family have wingTIPS. The BAC-11 has wingFENCES, they were vertical strips of metal on the upper wing surface to 'channel' airflow aft.

I may be wrong with the terminology though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,857 ✭✭✭Andrew33

Yeah, I remember them strips on the 1-11s but I think the things on the ends of a 320's wings are actually called wingFences. Below excerpt is from an article regarding Airbus testing proper blended winglets for the 320 family.

"After several years of flight testing, Airbus has launched a winglet upgrade to its A320 family it promises will provide a 3.5% fuel-burn improvement over the existing wingfence design.

The winglets, which Airbus has termed "sharklets," were designed by Airbus, although the manufacturer looked at other configurations. Airbus will need to add about 200 kg. in weight to stiffen the wingbox to handle higher loads, but found enough weight savings to keep the change weight-neutral, says Airbus chief operational officer for customers, John Leahy."

To Skelliser, you need to upload a smaller size in your pics, taking forever to open the page. Nicely composed but a lot of "noise" in your pictures.

    Much better!:D

What type of camera are you using? Keeping cam steady is vitally important, when holding camera to eye you should tuck both elbows together and press them into your stomach/chest, feels a bit weird at first but you'll notice a difference straight away. I'm only feeling my way tru photography at the moment but your pics look under exposed (dark), see if you can over compensate the exposure on your camera, its a lot of trial and error. I get this too when shooting upwards at aircraft, I think the expanse of sky fools the camera into thinking its brighter than it is. You should down load Paint.net or Picasso or something similar to play with your photos, I use Paint.net and you can sharpen pics and reduce noise, mess around with exposure etc. These progs are a bit limited but grand for starting off! Keep posting the pics and add some text detail too, make and model of aircraft, reg, operator etc.

He certainly screamed outta there! Everything in/out of St Maarten seems to be "insane" "crazy" etc. Its a cool looking place and a spotters paradise but if it was that insane or dangerous would it really be in operation?

Looks like no flaps alright, but a 737 will definately not fly without flaps selected, probably flaps 1 takeoff

These pics were taken after we had a bird strike, actually a flock of unknown birds. Notice the engines, slats and flaps. Blood everywhere. Was unreal. Resulted in replacing number 2 engine. Oh the flight was out of Nepal when it occured

Friday May 14th was a splendid day at Shannon where in nice weather several interesting aircraft were to be seen. (Photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/shanair/). In the morning Miami Air's B737-8Q8 N734MA made a fuel stop and then a lunch time Mayfair Aviation's 62 year old De Havilland DH104 Dove 8 G-OPLC arrived on a charter. Delivered to the RAF in 1948 it was civilianised in 1986 and is still earning ts keep. It has a luxurious interior making for very nice relaxed way to travel. The afternoon saw the first visit of Air Contractors passenger configured B737-31S EI-STA in the colours of subsidiary Europe Airpost. It was doing the first weekly charter to/from Dubrovnik. The evening saw the arrival of Kalitta Air B747-246B (F) N700CK making a nice landing in crosswind conditions. Two movements from Shannon Aerospace were the ex-Olympic B737-4Q8 EI-ELP doing a test flight in the colours of its next operator UTair Ukraine - really nice scheme. This airline is a subsidiary of Russia's UTair and currently operates a pair of ATR42's. Danish carrier Jettime's B737-33A OY-JTA departed for home following two weeks maintenance. Then a really nice one - a Bombardier CRJ200 XT-ABG on delivery to Air Burkina in full colours. Aircraft registered in Burkina Faso are kind of rare in Ireland - in fact the last one I remember seeing was an executive Boeing 727 in Cork being used by Michael Jackson many years ago.

An amazing Saturday, only about 500 people there in total and every aircraft you see above was flown! Sometimes about 5-10 at a atime and an amazing WW1 atmosphere. The slow speed and fragility of aircraft of this era was totally apparent as the flypasts took so long! :)

The company that restores many of them is here: Vintage Aviator. Interesting reading!

I'm so lucky to have seen that many WW1 era aircraft at once!
