The homeless beggars

I have never given money to any homeless person no matter how much they beg.. Still, I can't help but feel sorry for alot of them.. I saw one thing that really pissed me off the other day..

Ya know the ones that sit in between banklinks? (For the love of God do they think you're gonna throw 'em a few fifties?) There was a foreign girl sitting there with her cup and I saw a guy give her some money.. Literally 1 min later, a different girl went up to her, took the cup off her, and swapped places.. They spoke in polish or something then the first girl that was there walked off... Ugh

How do you know which ones are really homeless?

I don't think I could bare giving one of these **** money.. But there are always those that won't just drink/inject it..

Do you give money to the homeless? How do you determine who?

One break every three hours - union rules.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Thread title fail, thread placement fail.

Beggars in Dublin, go to Dublin forum.

That said, you just have to trust they need the money TBH. If you don't then don't give any.,

I don't see what your getting at? They could be family or friends taking turns at the most lucrative place to beg. If there wasn't some system or agreement between the homeless there would be people fighting over the spots but that probably does happen too.

I took the liberty to nationalise your title there OP so we can discuss other places than Dublin...

As for Galway, no I don't give anything. I'd rather give to Simon or another organisation that provides food and shelter for the Irish homeless rather than giving to some poor Roma woman trafficked here to beg for her "masters".
    But that's me.

    Start telling them a joke.

I agree it is hard to tell which ones are more deserving than others, and in reality we have no way of knowing.

I don't give money to the ones that beg beside the ATM machines. That really annoys me to be honest. You're in a very vulnerable position when you're taking cash out and it can be intimidating if someone is sitting right beside it, staring at you as though its expected you'll give them money just because you obviously have some, otherwise you wouldn't be using the ATM.

I once had a conversation with a young Dublin girl outside one of the shops on Westmoreland St. one night. I had a few drinks in me so I ended up giving her all of my coinage. I got chatting to her while I was waiting for my Nitelink and she ended up telling me that she wished I hadn't given her any money at all. She told me she doesn't get to keep any of it. When I asked her who got the money she clammed up. Made me feel sad.

Then there was another homeless guy I gave money to outside of a club. He was wandering around playing trad tunes on a tin whistle and I couldn't say no. It was only later I realised that when I'd opened my wallet to fish out a fiver for him he'd taken a twenty without me even noticing.

So I don't really give any of them money anymore. There's a homeless guy that begs near where I work and sometimes if I'm going out to get a sambo for my lunch I'll get one made up for him too.

Iv seem groups of those romanian gypsies meet up at the bus station in kilkenny after a hard days "work", having a good laugh at the silly auld paddies who gave them money during the day.

    Digusting.

Im inclined to give a few bob to a Irish homeless person as they got very little in their lives - but WTF at the all the eastern europeans who come to this country with the sole intention to beg , how the hell did they get in here in the first place

These ones are the worst. On Halfpenny bridge last week there was a lad curled up in a raincoat, tracksuit bottoms. And luminous green brand new Nikes.

I can't afford bloody runners, they're over €100 ffs. I go running in 3 year old ones that are full of holes.

I used to give a euro or two to homeless people. but there are so many in Dublin lately, most of them about as genuine as Nike man, that I can't be bothered anymore, it's sad really that people abuse good will like that chasing a quick buck, and I doubt I'm the only person put off by the multiplication of beggars. It's a bit desensitising, as harsh as that sounds, especially with so many not even homeless at all.

Best you could do for the homeless is point them to the nearest Simon Community Centre. I'm sure even these people are entitled to some social welfare in some form or another! I don't remember the last time I was ever branded a walking ATM for the homeless, and in all honesty, I never will be. I will point in the direction of help though.

As for chronic beggers, forgive me, but the Romanians are the fúcking worst, trying on the guilt trip with 10 kids hanging out of them, then they fúck off to a state funded home that's better than yours!

The women sitting on the ground with young babies really p1sses me off, why do social services not come along and take them  sitting on the pissy ground or a dirty blanket, sometimes in the rain.. ffs

Make like Patrick Bateman and burn dollar bills in front of them..

..then stab them in the eye. Crazy book.

I havnt seen many in Dundalk lately, I think thats because nobody gives them money, if we stop giving them money then they stop begging and look for other ways to find money, one of those ways being ''finding a job''.

There are those romanians though that I see selling big issues, and I dont see a problem with that, do you?

I will not give them money but will give them a bite to eat, I feel sorry for the women, they are in a vicious circle, and the men are the ring leaders.

So you think Roma women are trafficked here?

Yeah I know, if they start jailing them and show them that there is a consequence for doing these things then they'd stop doing it.

the government seems lazy to take action.

    Munny for de baaaaybieee!?

That really, really annoys me. Especially when you know how much money these people rake in from social welfare weekly.

Why should they be jailed and the taxpayer forced to pay for them further?
Stick them in a labour camp and make the bastards work for thier airfare home then deport them.

Have you noticed though, that they all have the same catchphrases, like please and god bless you and then put on that face that tries to induce feelings of intense guilt. Or maybe that's just here in Athlone.

They are still about. They are proactive in asking you for money as in stopping you in the street and asking you. Not like some that just sit at the side of the road.

Some guy asked me for money even though I had just seen him leave his house!

When is the Government introducting legislation that aggressive begging is illegel? Or do we still have to suffer an influx of foreign nationals looking for 'our' money.

There are 2 I can think of, a bearded older man and a woman with very few teeth, they're both Romas, they hang around at the traffic lights near Tara Street Bridge, they come over to you when you're stopped at the lights giving you a thumbs up and them making a sign of the cross at you when you've waved them away.. Well it's either the sign of the cross or some voodoo curse  I always see people giving them money aswel.. So annoying, I'd love to go over and tell them they're the reason these people are here.. Morons

    Strolling down O'Connell Str.
'Please Sir please, i pray for you Sir, i pray for you, i have sick baby, please Sir.'

Or waiting for a Luas one Saturday, two Roma young girls are wait, see me go over to the ticketmachine and walks over righ in my face with a cup
    'Change, please?'
    Told em no
Then hopped on the Luas and walked down begging off everyone else.

I dont give them anything unless it's a well known Charity and I get a sticker!
