Face it radio is dead and dcufm is the worst kind of radio.

87% of Irish adults listen to radio each day. We'll just ignore that though, because it's a dead medium :D

Also, put me down for tickets to these awards, sounds like fun! Thanks too for highlighting the letters in red, I'd never heard that phrase before.

    Yay, another troll account banned.

Folks, by all means feel free to offer criticism of the station but at least make it constructive. Why people feel the need to sign up to Boards just to attempt to flame something or someone is beyond me. :(

Cynical Ru are you having a laugh? Perhaps you should invest in a pair of glasses because you clearly don't know an abusive post when you see one.

No, I won't. If you have an issue with a certain moderation decision then feel free to drop me a PM. If you had in fact seen the post before it was deleted then it will be perfectly clear why it was deleted.

I listen to DCUfm on and off.. the only issue I have is when its playing aloud.. on speakers.. outside... cause it makes the computing labs IMPOSSIBLE to work in.

    Other than that its fine..

It hasn't done that since the first day has it?

it did it during the firist week of the first semester this year as part of a launch 'awareness' thing to let people know that the station exists.

it was taken down eventually tho

Well done to DCUfm on winning best website.

    I personally wouldn't choose a theme from
    http://www.iloveyouwp.com/tribal-wordpress-theme.html

I would've thought a bunch of multimedia could make a website from scratch.

Also wouldn't've thought you could win with a ready made site, must remember this for next year.

And seemingly they paid for it?

For those who haven't seen their site: http://dcufm.com/

If you think DCUfm is all Multimedia and Communications students then you seriously couldn't be more wrong...

Majority of the people I know in DCUfm are studying multimedia or communications.

Most of the people in DCUfm are doing JR or CS, however there is a strong EPL contingent (for current affairs shows). Not that many MMA to be honest.

So then it's ok to buy a site and win best site with it?
If you don't have anyone to make a site for you then you shouldn't have a site

Completely disagree. There are several socities with no technical element which may also not have members skilled in those areas. In cases like that there is no harm in either paying someone to do it or, in this case, paying for a theme.

The purpose of the National Awards is to recognise the huge effort made by the many individuals who run student societies across Ireland. The National Awards are a means of recognising this dedication and are an opportunity to celebrate the importance and value that societies contribute to college life.

I love the fact that paying for a website is classed as effort. There's soo many other websites for DCU Socs that are done from scratch. Which people put their hard work and time into. It just seems unfair that a society can win with a site they bought for ~$70 (according the to site linked above)

True, but to give them an award for something they didn't do themselves is a bit much, I would've imagined you could only qualify for the award if the society actually created the site.

Is it design, is it content or both?

There are some great websites around made by DCU students where they put a lot more work into them than DCUfm. Don't get me wrong, the DCUfm website is great but buying half the site and entering a bit of text etc. seems a kick in the teeth to others...

Then again, the design may have had nothing to do with the award...

They should Have a separate award for best purchased site.

    It's both.

Anyway, getting back to the original question, anyone who honestly questioned the improvements the station has made this year should take a look at how we're doing at the Student Media Awards tonight. G'wan, I dare ya.

But surely then they would've got best improved.

Best website I'd assume goes for content and design, but design has to have quite a big baring on that.

I'm not denying that DCUfm have done a brilliant job this year, I'm just saying I think it's very unfair when there's 50 or so other societies with websites that have had alot of hard work put into them, rather than code that was professionally done, with little-or-no input from students, that was paid for.

It's completely unfair to smaller socs who can't afford to pay for websites.

Does anyone know if DCUfm pointed out, within their Best Website nomination, that they had bought the theme for their wordpress site?

Good stuff, I can't get a hold of anyone who is at it, must be that free drink, I'd say its going down well.

Thanks for the info, and back on track:

I am pretty shocked hearing about the DCUFM website, bit mad if you ask me.

However DCUFM has come leaps and bounds in the lst year, however I seriously would agree that the stream online is not good enough and doesn't do the station justice. And I don't feel its just as easy to put on the radio n the internet because the majority of radio I listen to is in the car for a few hours a day, and my alarm which wakes me up in the morning.

    The other DCU winner was
    National Press: Joanne Hunt

and the other of the eight that you're missing is that there were two Features Writer prizes, Arts and Features for Patrick Kavanagh and News and Politics for Stephen Mangan.
