google dns is lightening as well

    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

i've been using a mix of them and open dns on my laptop and phone for ages (open dns and 2.2.2.4 for years) on all networks they work perfectly, having one open dns one google gives a good failsafe.

Put another router or firewall inside their router and configure it on that, hell order a 3rd party wimax router and bin the imagine one

99ms ping isn't all that great for gaming

Is it the lower or higher the better?

lower, it is playable but not perfect but many people game with 100ms pings fine.

I use my PS3 with it no problems but they do block peer to peer so if your downloading something that offers option of peer to peer or direct download, pick the direct download option (MGS4 online does this) and direct download is really slow.

I've been playing TF2 for weeks now so I think they unblocked steam ports, probably got crap loads of complaints.

I tried to get the Wimax Service yesterday. I spoke to a Sales guy and confirmed my Location/Address. I.E. 5Km Line Of Sight to the Imagine Coolmine/Clonsilla base station. He went off and came back with the reply that Technical services said "No Way". He then hung up on me!. Now, my Wireless background tells me that a Distance of up to 20Km should be no problem for Wimax!. Anybody got any ideas?. I.E. How to coontact a "Real Person" in Imagine??.

    20km ??
Ha ha. Maybe for FIXED outdoor Aerial WiMax at 1Mbits, with a larger than usual outdoor aerial. Not Nomadic/Mobile. 3km to 4km is stretching it.

Does anybody know if there is an installation charge with this product? Mainly Thinking of the FIXED outdoor Aerial option!
Also I was told that this service will be going live in the Enfield area in June..

I have ordered my Wimax today and was told there is a €50 activation fee and €100 installation by two engineers.

What exactly do they install question 1 and question 2 is the hub(modem) wireless or do I need a seperate wifi router aswell ?

    Thanks

50 activation fee for your account
no installation fee for indoor router
    100euros for outdoor aerial
indoor router from motorola is a wireless router with 2 phone ports and one ethernet port

Got similar for my speedtest but peaked at end to what is quoted.

Also in Maynooth, they must be having massive problems with the network/mast tonight.

I'd agree with you but, this is constantly the speed/ping test result I get between 5.00pm and 11.20pm.

It's better off peak, which could mean that it's not a temporary problem, more an over-subscription problem. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be incorrect, but the service has been getting slower and slower since I got it.
Gaming on XBOX live when coming home after college or work is impossible with that level of service. Even browsing can be painfully slow, this is nearing the age of Dial up.

Hmmm I usually get good speeds and pings all the time but I dont' get home until at least half 6 most days.

97% packet loss!!!!??? how the hell? im on nomadic 3g/HSDPA and the odd I-HSPA connection (excellent if ic an ever get it!) coverage and i every rarely ever drop a packet - that is attrocious. How is your connection all the time? Is it variable or constantly poor and is tehre alot of contention in your area with alot of wimax users?

Between 5pm and 11pm it's like that test demonstrates or worse. Before I did a screen recording, at 7pm it wasn't even getting over 1mb with the same 96% to 98% packet loss. Pretty damn unusable.

It wasn't always like that though, I was one of the first to get it since I was with Irish broadband (owned by Imagine) and I was made to change from the excellent breeze service I had to this one. Being one of the first I think there were little or no other users so it was fast, but now I fear oversubscribing has taken it's toll.
I hope I'm wrong about over subscribing, but what else could it be if it picks up again to good speed at 1am to early afternoon? Times I'd consider useless to me since I'm either in college or work till 6 most days anyway.

conjestion still wouldnt explain the packet loss - it might explain the speed and ping but as for the packet loss...it shouldnt be that bad at all - 2% loss is bad enough.

Yes it is and unless you guess the password or they left it default you can't.

Default password should be motorola (try it with capital m too).

'NAT' isn't a physical option as it's just a translation table to help things pass through the firewall correctly.

What you'll need to do is either set up port forwarding for the Xbox correctly or enable upnp (if the wimax CPE supports it) or set a static ip address on your xbox (or reserved DHCP IP address for xbox via the router) and then put that IP address as your DMZ so that the firewall doesn't touch that one device.
