    Kudos.

A Hamster in a wheel will get better speeds than that.

Wow! What a cold hearted insult... the poor hamster.

The local newspaper, The Leinster Leader reports that the Irish Minster for Science, Technology and Innovation, Conor Lenihan has stressed the important impact on the local economy that this new WiMAX network will have. The Minister said it represented "another important foundation in the development of the Smart Economy which will bring about Ireland's economic renewal."

WiMax as a technology isn't actually that bad once you have sufficient backhaul for your projected user uptake.

What Imagine are offering is a glorified Ripwave upgrade. To offer it as an alternative to Breeze is an insult.

I am getting rid of the product. Going to cancel my laser card. That's what the payment comes off. Sick of the crap service. I can't even run a speed test!! Their advertising is not only annoying but is totally decieving. They slate eircom.....but at least eircom provide the product they are charing for. Achilles,

they will argue to death with you over the cancellation fee. Don't take any crap off them.

I'm not a customer I'm just a chump that used to work for them.

Why has the service been so bad around maynooth in recent nights? Have mailed support about this but no reply yet. It worked fine for a while but obviously they have saturated the network with users and contention is killing the service.

Everyone i know has cancled it. And they deny that anyone has had any problems with them.

I have been meaning to cancel it but the 100 euro cancellation fee has put me off until now.

I have been meaning to cancel it but the 100 euro cancellation fee has put me off until now.

That €100 wouldn't be payable if they weren't delivering a reasonable broadband service. If you're consistently experiencing dialup speeds at peak time (despite it being a contended service) that would, in my opinion, mean that the service wasn't as described, or fit for purpose. So, if you've given them the opportunity to sort it out, they haven't done so, and you're still experiencing dialup speeds, then seek a cancellation without penalty. If they still don't play ball, then I'd recommend you go to the small claims court for your 100 cancellation fee. Be sure you have records of all comms, and something in writing (even if it's email).

Also, be sure it's not something on your side that's causing the issues (like bad WiFi setup, local interference from poor quality baby monitors, a torrent/email client/whatever running when you're checking the speeds).

That wouldn't be far from the truth.

It's as I suspected all along then. No wonder I haven't heard back from "2nd level support". I get decent speeds off peak.

You any knowledge on the overcharging of loads of customers on their first bill?

No idea I've long parted ways with them.

I did try and mention the name of someone here once as a point of contact seeing as nobody was getting any help but even after being let go they still try and call me telling me not to mention anyone's name on here for fear of legal ramifications.

That's the kind of company you're dealing with people.

I was over charged on the first bill. Well double charged in truth. I had to make them aware of the issue aswell. It took me 7 days to get the money back off them. The connection is gone so bad that I can't even do a speed test. It spends so long trying load sites such as rte that it eventually just times out. Off peak speeds are fine but who wants to be getting 7mb at 5am.The speeds are diabolical from 17:00 until around 23:00. Also the traffic shaping is a major pain. It may be 30 euro a month cheaper than a decent Eircom package but at least the eircom package will let you access the web.

Anyone know what is deemed acceptable speeds if your on a 7mb package? Surely if I'm struggling to hit 1mg during peak times I have a case to cancel the service?

I had taught about the problem being on my side. But it runs fine a certain times and then terrible during peak times. To the extent that pages won't load. I work in IT and am confident that the problem ain't me or my set up. I have had problems with them before. They double charged me on my first bill and it took me 5 days to get the money back. I tried to use this as a reason to cancel but they said It was not grounds to cancel. I said that I didn't trust them with my account details. It's a waste of 35 a month.

I've been using it without problems for past week or two. We are keeping it until UPC roll out.

My speeds aren't as bad as yours for whatever reason. Even at peak times I can play TF2 and access webpages including Youtube without any major issue at the moment.

There are days where it randomly blows up though and won't do anything or I get massive pings to TF2 servers when I'm the only one in the house so it isn't someone else hammering the connection and I'm intelligent enough not to run downloads and play games at same time :P

Connection to steam dropped out about half hour ago which makes no sense. I wasn't even in a game, I was in a private chat with someone in the middle of typing a message and all of a sudden get told I've lost connection.

Can still browse and everything fine. Why did they randomly at 12:30 at night decide to cut off ports for steam? How does one even setup a system to do this?

Mine dropped out this morning as well, i think there's issues with Steam, seen a few threads bout it lately

I was able to DL fine until around 12:30 or 01:00 aswell. Downloaded a 700 mb file then couldn't get any speeds at all. I wouldn't be so quick to blame steamor anyother application. Imagine seem to have really bad traffic shaping software implemented.

It's now 48 hours since I mailed support asking them for help but still no call or mail just confirmation of my query. If they do not offer me a satisfactory level of support is this grounds for canceling without incurring a penalty?

Its prob cause they are swamped with similar complaints.
Im glad I got shot of them on day 2. Worst internet ive ever used. Even dial up was better.

Honestly, still happier than I was with Digiweb and their 30GB cap on an 8Mbps connection.

I can take not being able to play games every now and again and not bein able to use P2P. I can't take literally being reduced to dial up speeds when I was paying 40 Euro a month like I was with Digiweb.

At least with this, I can download large files when it does work. Just writing the above made me realise just how crap Irish BB is when these are your choices if you don't want a landline and can't get NTL.

it really makes me mad that BB in this country is so crap, and the government just sit on their arses an do nothing - its shameful!!

I was quite happy with digiweb, they are the best out of a pile of shít.

Hopefully bman we won't be waiting to much longer for the upc roll out. But I wouldn't hold my breath about that either. I might go with a landline with eircom. Hopefully I won't hear anything back from Wimax support either. Good reason to cancel without penalty. I was in contact with magnet but they can't offer anything much better either.

I was more than triple charged, took me 20 days to get the money back.

Living in drogheda and was hoping it would be a good service but its not going to live up to the hype. Will be cancelling in ASAP.

Yeah I get something similar during peak times just like yourself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭rafared

In fairness to them I rang yesterday evening and they were decent enough on the phone. They said they were aware of the problems and were working at solving them. I told them no way was I paying anything unless the service was as advertised and the guy in tech support was in agreement. Havent cancelled yet as speeds and pings were good last nite and today just before I posted this it was 5mb or thereabouts with a ping of 52ms. Will have another look this evening during peak time and see what its like.
