Owing a gun is a serious responsilibility, thinking you can just go a round firing off rounds, is a very dangerous line of thinking.

I never said I'd be spraying bullets at someone for looking at me twice. I can understand having a live weapon isn't like a video game.

I would like a licensing system to be in place and training in the use of the firearm and situations being mandatory for all applicants.

Do what the Swiss do. Every able bodied person has to serve a few years in their armed forces. After which you get to keep your service rifle.

They have the lowest crime rate in Europe believe it or not. Probably because they are all such nice folk from the land of watches and chocolate and everyone has a battle rifle on their bedroom wall.

Yeah have heard about them alright. I'd be in favour of national service no hassle

If we take the "everyone should have the right to bear arms" notion to its illogical conclusions shouldnt children be allowed (maybe even encouraged) to bring guns to school. Shouldnt airline passengers be allowed carry too ? Shouldnt employees be allowed to bring guns to work ? And whats this nonsense about denying guns to convicted felons -surely convicted felons need to defend themselves too ?

Seriously would Columbine have happened if all the other kids had guns ? Woudnt bullying and paedophilia die out overnight and if someone tries hijacking a plane couldnt the other passengers just blow them away ? Or perhaps restrictions on gun possession are actually a good idea after all ?

The those intent on causing harm can avail of said training. A lot of serious criminals don't have records yet. I use to avail of some training in Prague about 12 years ago, I used the ranges a lot never seen anyone dodgy, then the media started making a lot of noise about it, then there where a lot of dodgy people going over.

In a ideal situation, I have no issues with people owning guns; where do we draw the line. Look at the way a lot of muppets behave after a few drinks, throwing Mr Glock in there is not a good idea.

Should people be allowed to own glocks for sporting purposes? In my opinion yes, however, if a person needs one for self defense, they need to start having a look at the way they live their life.

    Don't you get it?

Everything that has the potential to harm another person needs to be banned.

    Like cars and knives!

I don't think many schools in the world allow weapons, same can be said of most airlines too. Why would it be any different here?

I'd already suggested the restriction of convicted people get licenced.

no, guns are a ****ing terrible idea. really, I don't see why people think they will solve anything.
OP, tell me honestly-how many times have you had the sh!t kicked out of you repeatedly?

I don't go out on the town, I don't drink or do drugs and I don't associate with anyone who does. I live a very quiet life and am a gentle giant in my own way. I don't feel safe in today's world. Despite my username I'm not a gangbanger

Never actually. However I was once mugged at syringe point and had a drunk pour my coffee over my shoulder another time.

But if I was armed there's a chance I wouldn't get attacked in the first place. As it stands today there's nothing stopping a criminal with a gun shooting me dead in the street. Who's gonna stop him, our unarmed police?

doesnt seem to be working too well for the yanks

Mate we live in one of the safest countries in the world, you're more likely to die from suicide than homicide, get a grip, just cos you had a couple of isolated incidents doesnt mean you're living in South Central LA,

You were unlucky, get over it.

Would you have preferred to have been mugged at gun point?Because if we had this "Guns for all" idea then that would be what would happen.I would feel much safer on the street knowing that no-one else had a gun.The only real impact that this idea would have on the country would be to drastically increase the amount of gun crime and the murder rate.

    Way to miss the point

But at least we have established that you actually are in favour of gun control

Yeah of course there has to be some control. Perish the thought anyone could go to Tesco and buy a shotgun. That'd be so bad

Yes firearms for protection are in my book. More so stun guns.
As for needing protection myself not really as I am 6'4 and 15st and that does it. It also helps that I stay out off the way off trouble makers.

I didn't say you were, I said people in relation to the lifestyle reference to avoid aiming it at you specifically.

Right lets look at your idea, how does it work?

You spoke of situations, schools, airplanes etc, where it would be inapporpriate to carry a "weapon", I use that word as that is the context you are speaking of.

As I said earlier I have three "firearms" in my bedroom, and about 1,000 rounds of ammo in the house. Now in your view, where can I carry my "firearm" as a "weapon", in what context can I carry it. Am I allowed bring it to work? when I'm shopping? when I pop down my local?

Excatly what type of training do I need to under take? Safe use and ability to hit a target, defensive tactics, retention techniques? What am I going to be limited to? pistol or revolver? What caliber .22. 9mm, .45, .50cal? How many round can I cary?

The point I'm trying to meak is where is the line for self defense, and where do we place it?

    Why ?

Surely school children/airline passengers/ex-convicts/employees have as much (if not more) need to defend themselves as anyone else.
