"Size Zero"

Jesus christ - it's Size 4! What is with all these articles about body image etc talk about how someone is a healthy size 10, 12 etc in "today's size zero culture". Irish media - stop using American dress sizes to generate shock headlines and distort a genuine discussion that needs to happen AND take a balanced view instead of punishing those who undereat over the (vast majority) who overeat. Case in point yesterday's Herald

    http://www.herald.ie/national-news/city-news/toothin-model-banned-from-xpose-live-2136898.html

""Overseas, they would probable embrace the look, but here in Ireland, they're pushing for healthier looking models ranging from a size 10 to 14."

Next paragraph - "As the international fashion industry is in upheaval over the constant barrage of emaciated models on the runway, Irish retailers are taking a stand against the persistent size zero trend"

Basically they want you to subconciously think the model was fired5-6 dress sizes smaller than what was required

Maybe Bob Geldof should organise a concert to help these size 0 models.

    Live Ate....nothing

Completely agree OP. It's obviously just for dramatic effect, but it makes no sense to chop and change between UK and American sizes within one article. Really bugs me!

For years women have been telling men that size does not matter..... This proves otherwise....

My other half's size is her own business(and mine if I am buying her underware ;)) but regardless of size you will either love them or will not.

i agree with the op it is madness but like a 36DD bust on page 3... Size Zero sells a lot of womens magazines

So unfor its only women who can stop this....

I think (and hope) that the tide is changing with regards to this whole size zero shyte.

I do fully agree that this is a problem that women have created by buying rags like Heat Magazine et al. Most men wouldn't have a clue about dress sizes. If a girl looks good, then she looks good - end of.

It's infuriating to me that women do this to each other though. I remember watching a documentary before about a modeling agency and the agent was telling this emaciated model that she needed to lose more weight and had noticed that she was starting to get 'fat'. The agent was about a size 20. Fookin ridiculous.

However, as a female, it's very hard not to get roped into all of this too. I am about a size 12 i'd say and I still am partial to the odd hang up about looking 'fat'. The more rational part of me says that size 12 is no-where near fat. Sure wasn't Marilyn Monroe lusted after the world over and she was a size 16.

It seems that every decade, there is a new trend for girls to obsess over. I remember in the 90's it was all about big boobs and cleavage. Now it's this ridiculous size 0 thing.

The fact remains - keep buying the trash media that pushes this kind of thing on women and the problem will continue.

Don't be surpirsed if they airbrushed those circles under her eyes to help with the shock value.

Now with due respect you have effectivly added to the stigma women suffer without realising it...and you have shattered the posters illusion

    Why?

For example.... A man never discusses brad pitts waist size or tom cruises height.(even though he is small)....why? Yes a man sees that women see them good looking but a man says right I need to get fit... but he does not say I need 32 waist or a 36" waist because we know that arnie's waist is hugh compared to tom cruise but they both have attributes that make them apealing to men.

where as a women equates another women as being goodlooking because of the attributes that we are discussing... For example I must be a size zero... My otherhalf was less than a size zero when i met her. she is more now but is no less apealing...
