Regardless of her talent or lack of talent as people see it - she is a marketing genius.

Like her or hate her she has generated a ton of press and is raking in the money.

She's weird. I like her. I like weird.
Edit : She also has the same hair colour as me! :D

    She's different , I kinda like her.

i don't feel too strongly one way or the other. i liked two of her tracks [just dance and paprazzi] and i think the rest are sub par pop. i dont like her voice, and i think the beats in her tracks are just...not new or exciting like good pop should be. and i'm tired of hearing people say "but wait, check out this youtube of her playing piano at sixteen years of age, she's a musical genius!"

i believe she's good at piano. i'd love to hear her release a song that incorporated it. it doesn't make her a musical genius.

style wise, i think it's interesting to have someone on the celeb scene who dresses so weirdly. again -not genius, but yeah interesting.

but that telephone video was soooooo lame!! ugh.

in the end, she dresses a little weird in a good way, but her music is nothing new and nothing to be excited about.
    the end.

I like her. She writes all her own stuff. She designs pretty much all her own stuff. She is solely responsible for her amazing success.

You just have to remember that everything you see is this character that she has styled herself as. You do see glimpses of an intelligent, in-tune person when she answers serious questions. For example about gay rights - which she has become an activist for.

    she is fantastic

a great alternative to the x factor creations all the rage these days

    she is innovative and artistic

    re-invented the bowie-esque genre

more creative than madonna ever was and still only a spring chicken

not to disparage the above comment, but it just reminded me.

i really hate when people praise a musician by saying "they write all their own stuff!" -they are musicians, that should be standard!
and in lady gaga's stuff, her songs are really not that complicated.

also, while she may be a supporter of gay rights , she also makes really stupid comments in interviews like the recent "pop stars shouldn't eat". that's great, thanks, all your young female fans will appreciate that.

she also said something about not being a feminist "because she loves men". and i thought women who didn't love men were called lesbians! silly me!

i know, celebrities are just people, and like all people they will say some smart things, and some stupid things. but i think it's so annoying when people point out that a pop star is great because she said this one smart thing and sounded "so well spoken!"

She/her managers spotted a gap in the market. Madonna is getting old and is no longer outrageous. Gaga is marketed as the new ''outrageous'' She is as packaged as miley cyrus but more creatively so. She is marketed to within an inch of her life as cutting edge and meant to shock. This can come across as attention seeking.
However she can actually sing and some of her songs are good, I hear she's a very entertaining live performer also.

Fairly ambivalent about her, to be honest.
Quite like the first single i heard, 'Just Dance'; especially the start of it.
Cool, unusual way to start a pop song.
She can obviously sing and is really talented.
Being of an age, early 30's, that i grew up watching Madonna, though, i find her attempted 'shock tactics' to be a stale re-thread.
Can understand how a teenager nowadays, unaware of Madonna's hey-day, might find her exciting, though.

Wonder who she will kiss on stage for publicity...

Madonna will probably be at it again, I suppose.
She's mad for a bit of publicity too.

shes very down to earth in interviews and very sweet person,as for her videos ,shes pushing the boundaries just like jackson did,, that telephone video is something completely different from other videos,, she starts trends doesn't follow them, AND SHE ACTUALLY SINGS LIVE ALWAYS

your joking right, I hate the music but the production on all of her tracks (havent heard telephone mind) is A1 standard! That said she is only a "co writer" on all her tracks and produces none of them. Thats nothing unusual in pop music though. Madonna writes little or nothin for example

If only she'd go back to when she used hide her face behind a bit of plastic, covered in glitter.

She makes the Black Eyed Peas look like centuries old wordsmiths.

This thread caused me to watch the video. I now wish I'd drank that coffee before watching it.

    That is all.

The "raunchy" thing is really tame though. Madonna/Grace Jones did it already and with some originality, but then again, it's only the radio-friendly songs by GaGa that I know.
Maybe she's doing a Prince on it - i.e. the more sexually frank stuff not for airplay (I'm not comparing her music to that of Prince btw).

What I know of her though, I think she has a pretty good dress style at times and some catchy songs (I like Paparazzi and Bad Romance in the way I'd like a better song by Gwen Stefani/The Black-Eyed Peas, the latter whom I detest) - hate Pokerface; Just Dance is... meh) but that's about it. Not a bad voice but nothing remarkable. It's fairly generic Timbaland-style pop, some of which is good, but some of which is just watered-down versions of the better stuff. Telephone just sounds like a zillion other songs from the last few years.

I don't think she's ugly though, just because she doesn't have the prettiness of e.g. Beyonce, Cheryl Cole.

For a sexually confrontational, boundaries- pushing female, check out Peaches.

is she the one that has sex with strangers and gets her piccys in the paper naked aand goofed outa it?

Hate her, I didn't think her career would last as long as her knob, but I stand corrected.

She is one ugly bint. If Sarah Jessica Parker has a face like a horse, Gaga's got a face like the horse's arse. They could do panto together.

    That's a load of crap.
She isn't pushing boundaries, she is copying Jackson's style of video making and acting like a tramp while doing it.
Madonna has been acting like a tramp for years,
so I don't think she started that trend either...

And don't ever compare her to Jackson, she is a fcuking nobody compared to Jackson.
Jackson conquered the world, multiple times, she hasn't done ****.

Like comparing Robert Pattison to Marlon Brando or something....

Edit: As for singing live...she is supposed to fcuking sing live.
She shouldn't be commended for that.
People that don't sing live deserve to be ridiculed, but artists that sing live shouldn't be commended...

It's what they are supposed to do...

i guess it's only a matter of opinion, but i'd really disagree. bad romance, pokerface etc.. i don't think they are near as good quality as Timbalands stuff from the past few years. they sound like they could have been made in the late nineties, and not in a cool retro way, but in a tired, unoriginal way.

I think she's today's answer to Maria Callas.

Not as good as Kei$ha though...

not timberland but a million times better than most of the god awful drivel that inhabits the pop charts...

I can recognize she's good at what she does, but I'm not terribly fond of what she does. There's a lot of artists I'd say the same about though - Bjork, Michael Jackson, Sting, off the top of my head.

I'd respect her more than Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and a fair number of her pop compatriots.

Have to agree with the OP, I don't like her as an artist at all and think she's overrated.

I liked Just Dance and Lovegame, but haven't been impressed with any other song from her.

I do not see any genuine creativity in her songs or image, just a succession of wacky outfits.

I thought Madonna's early videos had some form of artistic merit, in Gaga's I see none.

Her label is selling the image of her that people are aware of. It doesn't mean she isn't talented or creative though. If she had of gone in a different direction with her music then she'd probably be just as popular with a different audience

Her acoustic versions aren't bad imo, wouldn't buy any of her stuff but I'd not say she isn't creative just because of the fanbase she plays to
