And much as I also dislike that video, the fact that you've gone to the bother of starting an internet thread on it shows that the Gagas of this world have suceeded in their aim ,which was to get attention.

You sir, have lost The Game.

A bit of both to be honest.

She is obviously creative but clearly milking it for the $$$. Compromising her "art" i would say.

Thought she was excellent at first now it's overdone and too try hard.
I read she refused to remove a veil for security at an airport in the USA so they had to privately search her in a back room, who the f#ck does she think she is loike.

I suppose I could form an opinion of this Lady DooDaa of which you speak. But then, I'd have to pay her the slightest bit of attention.

    Pass.

Oh and the telephone video is more like a huge commercial for multiple products.

What, is she avant garde? She is writing good pop. That makes $$$. Where is the compromise.

I got 8 within the first minute.
To be honest I can't her sustaining her career for any more than another year, it's not as if that image can be reinvented convincingly.

Would you be aware of any plans of hers to release said "good pop"?

I give Madonna another year. possibly two.

She is talented musically, but the Telephone video is quite overhyped. The story of the video neither matches the song nor does the narrative of it tell a great story that videos getting THIS level of praise would normally contain.

The GaGa image is the brainchild of a highly talented marketing department and if anything the amount of advertising she's managed to crowbar into this video that masquerades itself as true art proves it.

She's raking it in, no matter what anyone thinks of her.

Only an intellectual midget would not realise that Bad romance is great pop. Hence all the awards from people in the industry.

You one the other hand, are an internet poster.. Your opinion on the thing matters not at all.

    But thanks for sharing.

She's nowhere near a creative genius. And I have a fairly low opinion of her, although I must admit poker face's acoustic version isn't bad.

Telephone is pure and utter ****e...

The compromise is quite clearly shoe-horning Beyonce, who just happens to be the biggest thing in pop right now, into a pop video that doesn't really fit with Beyonces style thus far in Beyonces career.

    Do you agree?

I am a guy. A classically trained musician too. Although it is not how I ply my trade. I listen to next to no popular music, but as it happens I can tell that Gaga ( who is classically trained) is very very talented.

    So far.

Ok,leaving thread. This is a " I dont like the popular girl" thread. Fine. but not related to talent.

I think she is fcuking desperate, change over any time she is on radio/tv etc.

It's all a matter of opinion though, she just doesn't play the kind of music I like.
Plus the fact that she is a complete attention whore completely puts me off her.

She is really, really ugly as well.
Might be nice if she didn't dress as a tranny, but then we will never know...

I'd give her a ride tho if she asked nicely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,068 ✭✭✭Bodhisopha

Thanks for ignoring my point Pittens!

If she was so concerned about her "art" which seems to be her favourite three letter word she would duet with more like minded artists rather than shoehorn whatever is "hot" in pop into her performances.

Love when people spout stuff like this.

    You wouldn't get near her.

Aww yeah Angelina Jolie, I might throw her an oul bone alright.
Just the one though, wouldn't want a relationship with her or anything...

Regardless of her talent or lack of talent as people see it - she is a marketing genius.

Like her or hate her she has generated a ton of press and is raking in the money.

    She's different , I kinda like her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭vicecreamsundae

i don't feel too strongly one way or the other. i liked two of her tracks [just dance and paprazzi] and i think the rest are sub par pop. i dont like her voice, and i think the beats in her tracks are just...not new or exciting like good pop should be. and i'm tired of hearing people say "but wait, check out this youtube of her playing piano at sixteen years of age, she's a musical genius!"

i believe she's good at piano. i'd love to hear her release a song that incorporated it. it doesn't make her a musical genius.

style wise, i think it's interesting to have someone on the celeb scene who dresses so weirdly. again -not genius, but yeah interesting.

but that telephone video was soooooo lame!! ugh.

in the end, she dresses a little weird in a good way, but her music is nothing new and nothing to be excited about.
    the end.

I like her. She writes all her own stuff. She designs pretty much all her own stuff. She is solely responsible for her amazing success.

You just have to remember that everything you see is this character that she has styled herself as. You do see glimpses of an intelligent, in-tune person when she answers serious questions. For example about gay rights - which she has become an activist for.

    she is fantastic

a great alternative to the x factor creations all the rage these days

    she is innovative and artistic

    re-invented the bowie-esque genre

more creative than madonna ever was and still only a spring chicken

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭vicecreamsundae

not to disparage the above comment, but it just reminded me.

i really hate when people praise a musician by saying "they write all their own stuff!" -they are musicians, that should be standard!
and in lady gaga's stuff, her songs are really not that complicated.

also, while she may be a supporter of gay rights , she also makes really stupid comments in interviews like the recent "pop stars shouldn't eat". that's great, thanks, all your young female fans will appreciate that.

she also said something about not being a feminist "because she loves men". and i thought women who didn't love men were called lesbians! silly me!

i know, celebrities are just people, and like all people they will say some smart things, and some stupid things. but i think it's so annoying when people point out that a pop star is great because she said this one smart thing and sounded "so well spoken!"

She/her managers spotted a gap in the market. Madonna is getting old and is no longer outrageous. Gaga is marketed as the new ''outrageous'' She is as packaged as miley cyrus but more creatively so. She is marketed to within an inch of her life as cutting edge and meant to shock. This can come across as attention seeking.
However she can actually sing and some of her songs are good, I hear she's a very entertaining live performer also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,089 ✭✭✭ascanbe

Fairly ambivalent about her, to be honest.
Quite like the first single i heard, 'Just Dance'; especially the start of it.
Cool, unusual way to start a pop song.
She can obviously sing and is really talented.
Being of an age, early 30's, that i grew up watching Madonna, though, i find her attempted 'shock tactics' to be a stale re-thread.
Can understand how a teenager nowadays, unaware of Madonna's hey-day, might find her exciting, though.

Wonder who she will kiss on stage for publicity...

Madonna will probably be at it again, I suppose.
She's mad for a bit of publicity too.

your joking right, I hate the music but the production on all of her tracks (havent heard telephone mind) is A1 standard! That said she is only a "co writer" on all her tracks and produces none of them. Thats nothing unusual in pop music though. Madonna writes little or nothin for example

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭CR 7

If only she'd go back to when she used hide her face behind a bit of plastic, covered in glitter.

She makes the Black Eyed Peas look like centuries old wordsmiths.

This thread caused me to watch the video. I now wish I'd drank that coffee before watching it.

    That is all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

The "raunchy" thing is really tame though. Madonna/Grace Jones did it already and with some originality, but then again, it's only the radio-friendly songs by GaGa that I know.
Maybe she's doing a Prince on it - i.e. the more sexually frank stuff not for airplay (I'm not comparing her music to that of Prince btw).

What I know of her though, I think she has a pretty good dress style at times and some catchy songs (I like Paparazzi and Bad Romance in the way I'd like a better song by Gwen Stefani/The Black-Eyed Peas, the latter whom I detest) - hate Pokerface; Just Dance is... meh) but that's about it. Not a bad voice but nothing remarkable. It's fairly generic Timbaland-style pop, some of which is good, but some of which is just watered-down versions of the better stuff. Telephone just sounds like a zillion other songs from the last few years.

I don't think she's ugly though, just because she doesn't have the prettiness of e.g. Beyonce, Cheryl Cole.

For a sexually confrontational, boundaries- pushing female, check out Peaches.

She is one ugly bint. If Sarah Jessica Parker has a face like a horse, Gaga's got a face like the horse's arse. They could do panto together.

    That's a load of crap.
She isn't pushing boundaries, she is copying Jackson's style of video making and acting like a tramp while doing it.
Madonna has been acting like a tramp for years,
so I don't think she started that trend either...

And don't ever compare her to Jackson, she is a fcuking nobody compared to Jackson.
Jackson conquered the world, multiple times, she hasn't done ****.

Like comparing Robert Pattison to Marlon Brando or something....

Edit: As for singing live...she is supposed to fcuking sing live.
She shouldn't be commended for that.
People that don't sing live deserve to be ridiculed, but artists that sing live shouldn't be commended...

It's what they are supposed to do...
