    You'd think that.

I do find it strange that somebody who doesn't care that it is holy week would actually care about this though.

What should you be a Catholic first and and Irishman second...?

Holy Week = N/A for me

I was in Dublin last week and they were there aswell. They are their a lot so i'm told.

They aren't there to essentially convert anyone, in a time when islamaphobia is rampant and a lot of generalisations about Muslims are common then it is probably necessary for them to go out and right the wrongs that have been perpetuated over the last number of years.

As an atheist I couldn't care either way but the op comes across as quite daft. The lad on the soap box shouting through an amp about jebus is much more worrying for me. Molesting the ears of anyone walking by.

    Eh?

I was getting at the fact that he said he didn't care that it was easter but then found the fact that they were there to be insulting because it is Easter, something I found bizarre.

I am not too sure what your point is though.

A group of lads outside the GPO on easter weekend advertising Islam. Not really concerned about the holy weekend thing but for some reason it seems really ****ing insulting. [/rant]

how come you are whinging now? they, along with many other different groups are there on any given saturday. why is it insulting? are they shouting sectarian obsenitities or are they threatening? i think i noticed on banner saying, something along the lines of them trying to teach/talk to people who are interested on what islam is all about. they are not all mad/crazy/war lovers ya know. their community is growing in ireland. i suppose you would not see any problem with say an irish catholic church hanging round any particular landmark in any city in the world, like they did decades ago?

First group I've seen outside it, although the OH has told me the pro-lifers campaign outside there every so often so that would piss me off too as they are a bunch of brainless scaremongers. :pac:

That fellow requires a sound thrashing.

As do all buskers/preachers/etc. with amps and/or drums.

But especially Mr. 'Jesus loves you but you sinners are going to burn in hell.'

No I'm not you moron, I'm going to Clery's.

This forum always makes me seem like an Islam-sympathiser. I don't like Islam OR Christianity but the OP is pretty daft. Who the hell cares if it's a Holy Week for some people in the country? I get irritated by preachers full stop. It has nothing to do with them infringing on other mythological celebrations.

I wonder is it's possible to invoke our shiny newbackwards blasphemy law? If Catholics did that in Saudi Arabia or Iran there would be an immediate call for Jihad, so we should now call for Crusade. Where are the Knights Templar when we need 'em?:D

    "our" holy day ?

Didn't it belong to the Jews first ?

^^ Didn't happen. Nice effort though.

I reckon its a shame the islamic people promoting their religion actually look islamic!

These things always looked funnier back in the day when those freckly, ginger-haired, non tax paying college students used to push these things on you while walking through town. Also, there was no fear of Jihad if you felt the need to punch them when they got in your face!!!

*Hears the sound of rabbling Trinity students*

There would acuually probably be more complaining if it was catholics standing outside the G.P.O. or anywhere else advertising . . .

In this country we are usually very quick to be politically correct when talking about minorities.

If a comedian or someone on the late late started giving out about Muslims or Jews or was to call all Muslim preachers bombers, there would be uproar and all irish people living in the middle east would be murdered or something. But if someone says ( which happens frequently) that all priests are paedophiles, everyone just laughs.

    It's a bit messed up . . .

Yeah we had a gang of them in Galway as well. Looks like the faithful are taking to the streets, call it a sign that the church is beginning to get a glimmer of the trouble that its in.

Technically it belonged to the pagans first - seriously, check out how long the celtic cross has been around. :D Is there any religion that didn't start out as sun worship?

Ah I don't think there's much fear of Jihad anyway. I know a lot of muslims pretty well, from Imams to people I go for pints with. There are all sorts but you would have to look long and hard to find Muslim extremists in Ireland.

I suppose 90 odd % of us are of some type of Catholic background, its what we are familiar with. We grew up with the influence of the Church everywhere, telling us what to do and think. Now we see how many of them were hypocritical b*stards, its hilarious. The way they were revered makes it even funnier.

The reason everybody laughs if somebody says "all priests are paedophiles" is because they are mad! They laugh nervously and walk away!

I've heard plenty of jokes about Muslim terrorists etc. except we tend to take the piss out of it, because, well, not that long ago we were the terrorists abroad! People defending the Birmingham 6 or Guildford 4 were seen as enemies of the state.

And the Youth Defence nutters are still on O'Connell street protesting, 15 years after the Divorce Referendum.

Look, if you want religious or political fundamentalism, there is plenty of choice, it isn't a new thing in this country. "They haven't gone away, you know".

This is just a new type!

What I get from it is, a certain section of every religion, race, country, fans etc. are nuts. There's a surprise!

Be they catholics/protestants/muslims etc, they should be told to move on, and not to be shouting their crap in the middle of the city.

They should, but the vast majority of us have ignored the SPUC loons for years. We know they are loons and just carry about our business.

That's the beauty of protest and free speech. The loons get to showcase their madness.
