A group of lads outside the GPO on easter weekend advertising Islam. Not really concerned about the holy weekend thing but for some reason it seems really ****ing insulting. [/rant]

    Which GPO?

    Which sect of Islam?

    You need some R&R.

Were you actually pissed off at people preaching their religion? Probably non-radicals.

I always thought "Advertising" a religion was very very strange!

"this section of the show is brought to you by Islam: Praise Allah"

As a devout Christian with fundamentalist leanings I find it deeply offensive that such things should happen on our Holy Day. I wonder is it's possible to invoke our shiny new blasphemy law? If Catholics did that in Saudi Arabia or Iran there would be an immediate call for Jihad, so we should now call for Crusade. Where are the Knights Templar when we need 'em?:D

Saw them one day, when the Army had parked one of their light tanks in the centre of the street, doing a fund raiser. Little kid walked up to the soldier holding the bucket and asked:

"Why isn't the gun pointed at the terrorists?"

    It made my day.

Surely the right to assembly outside the GPO is the most sacred thing we (Irish) hold???

Converting over to Islam? Because of some random people outside on the street "advertising"?

    Doubt that.

even though he mentioned he's not really bothered about it?

As much as I dislike it, Ireland is a catholic country, probably why he mentioned it.
I'd much rather it be a catholic country than fúcking islamic though.

Anyway, don't you "Revert" to Islam?

The GPO isn't a religious building, if it was outside the Pro. Catherdeal maybe, but Catholics don't own this country

When they finish off Tom Hanks and Dan Browne, they'll be ready to carry out their scorched-earth policy in the Middle-East.

    Seriously, who gives a fcuk?

They aren't doing anyone any harm.

And anyway, if they were white, Irish and supporting Catholicism, you wouldn't have payed them a blind bit of notice.

I do find it strange that somebody who doesn't care that it is holy week would actually care about this though.

Holy Week = N/A for me

I was in Dublin last week and they were there aswell. They are their a lot so i'm told.

They aren't there to essentially convert anyone, in a time when islamaphobia is rampant and a lot of generalisations about Muslims are common then it is probably necessary for them to go out and right the wrongs that have been perpetuated over the last number of years.

As an atheist I couldn't care either way but the op comes across as quite daft. The lad on the soap box shouting through an amp about jebus is much more worrying for me. Molesting the ears of anyone walking by.

    Eh?

I was getting at the fact that he said he didn't care that it was easter but then found the fact that they were there to be insulting because it is Easter, something I found bizarre.

I am not too sure what your point is though.

how come you are whinging now? they, along with many other different groups are there on any given saturday. why is it insulting? are they shouting sectarian obsenitities or are they threatening? i think i noticed on banner saying, something along the lines of them trying to teach/talk to people who are interested on what islam is all about. they are not all mad/crazy/war lovers ya know. their community is growing in ireland. i suppose you would not see any problem with say an irish catholic church hanging round any particular landmark in any city in the world, like they did decades ago?

First group I've seen outside it, although the OH has told me the pro-lifers campaign outside there every so often so that would piss me off too as they are a bunch of brainless scaremongers. :pac:

That fellow requires a sound thrashing.

As do all buskers/preachers/etc. with amps and/or drums.

But especially Mr. 'Jesus loves you but you sinners are going to burn in hell.'

No I'm not you moron, I'm going to Clery's.

This forum always makes me seem like an Islam-sympathiser. I don't like Islam OR Christianity but the OP is pretty daft. Who the hell cares if it's a Holy Week for some people in the country? I get irritated by preachers full stop. It has nothing to do with them infringing on other mythological celebrations.

I reckon its a shame the islamic people promoting their religion actually look islamic!

These things always looked funnier back in the day when those freckly, ginger-haired, non tax paying college students used to push these things on you while walking through town. Also, there was no fear of Jihad if you felt the need to punch them when they got in your face!!!

*Hears the sound of rabbling Trinity students*
