I remember the viper rooms on the quays being opened before, for a price of course.

Awful place that...surprised the fire inspector has never closed them down...massive crowds and one exit from downstairs via a narrow stairway

What about nightclubs? Most people aren't even there before 12.

Tramco is opening anyway. I'd say its a busy night for cinemas.

    Joke of a country.

Is Tramco opening fully, like serving drink? I know Charlie Chawke is opening some of his pubs for food and soft drinks only.

I go out more than most, possibly party a little harder than most, but to have to go to a club at 8pm cos its closing 2 hrs early is where I would draw the line,

Why just because we cant drink on friday is everybody goin nuts ? Am I the only person to think that there is a serious drink problem ? God forbid not drinking on a friday night, we might have to sit around and talk sober. shesh

Theres Sat night, and Sun night and the 200 odd days left in the year !

Joke of a country is right, we're all sad bastards who cant do anything else socially only drink ! and ya, im one if them, but Im gonna change ....after this weekend !

Im off work on Friday, and I want to go out on Thursday.. why can I not?? Cos some draconian law brought about by the worlds largest paedophile ring says I cant??

THAT is a joke. And what I do with other 200 days of the year is my own business.

Anyway obviously going to some nightclub in Leixlip is not going to happen, I'm just asking about pubs here, I'm pretty sure nowhere really opens at midnight on Friday so I was wondering if we at least got to choose what we do on Thursday night but it appears we dont get that night either.

Tramco might be a shout, have to investigate...

What if we banned pizzas on one day of the year. And then maybe ban tv for another. Would you feel the same?

It is up to a person to decide what they want to do with their night.

The sad and crazy part is that it has to remain shut for those 24 hours, not that people want to be able to spend money there during those 24 hours.

That argument has no weight. People should have the freedom to choose what they do and not be judged.

Everything is improved with the inclusion of alcohol. Never forget that.

I'll be hitting the off licence. Maybe kicking it too. Definitely screaming 'Open you cretins. God wants me to drink.'

I think nightclubs open at midnight on Good Friday. So went the story last year. Not sure how accurate that is tho - few buddies said it was the case anyway. Makes sense considering how many people have house parties before heading in.

Do you think you would be judged walking around the town with an alcohol can in your hand on Good Friday? Who's judging anything?

no pizza and tv for a night!!. what would everyone do!!

theres noting stopping you doing what you want for the night. for example if your a raving alcholic that cant live without the pub for a night then get some takeaway beers in at home!

What if you have been working for a month wiht hardly any holidays on a project and you finish on good Friday? Why should that person be denied a night out?

I can't believe this causes so much confusion every year...

They could always go out one day later instead. Have a couple of drinks at home on the night instead. Hardly the end of the world!

The only confusion is to why on earth the ban on alcohol sales on that random day still exists.

It is a very serious issue. It goes to the very heart of a persons freedom, civil liberties and beliefs. You are saying why can't a person go without one day of drink and I am saying why should they. None of you have an answer to that.

They could always try and turn it into a non-alcohol day to help combat binge drinking culture. Could have a few events on on the day where people can enjoy activities they might not usually engage in without the need for alcohol at a lower cost than normal. You know an evening on the streets of Dublin or wherever you may be without piss, vomit and regular violent scenes. There's more to us than this surely! One day to show it a year.

because the government don't care about you or what you want. I like to smoke weed sometimes but it's illegal. What can you do? Vote someone else in? They'll do the same sh*t.

People's beliefs are overlapping and conflicting. Some don't like the scenes you find in town centres across the country and feel their own freedom is restricted as a result. They can walk the streets in security on a Tuesday night but not a Saturday night. What about their freedoms on those nights? Of course if you deny people the right to engage in activities that affect the freedoms of others somebody's going to be upset as somebody loses that civil liberty they beleive they have.

Why can't I urinate on a busy street in broad daylight. My freedom! Why can't I lay here on the bench high from my heroin with my baby by my side without ending up in jail? My liberty! Why can't i hate gay people? My beliefs! Why can't I buy alcohol on Good Friday? You can't. Deal with it is my sole advice I'm afraid.
