Legendary! Subtlely introduced, followed with a killer punchline. Best post since Pighead's r-rated anagram :)

Boston already has an airport called after Johnny Logan, so it's only fitting that Dublin should commemorate one of our own.

J.Lo is an absolute legend, if I'd my way, EVERYTHING in this country would be named after him.

There should be a Gravy Station for the gravy trains that operate 24/7.

we'll have no political shenanigans on the Gately station! shur them boys can't be seen to associate with princesses and the like!

His death was tragic and sad etc but in all fairness naming a train station after a jumped up Kareoke singer is just plain daft!

There have been many far more talented Irish people who died before their time far more deserving of something like this.

    its a ridiculous idea.

Indeed. Can we not honour people who actually contributed to society instead of part of Louis Walsh's lip synching crap bands?

Sure isn't Hueston unofficially known as Dignam station after that junkie from Aslan?

Why would they name the station after him ??

......surely a tunnel makes more sense.

I'm not being funny but I heard no one shouting for a station to be named after Tony Gregory when he died.

And in case anyone doesn't know who Tony Gregory was - http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0102/gregoryt.html

Thats suppose to be funny ? A pink train ,so your assumption that because Stephen Gately was gay a pink train is appropriate and supposedly funny ? Please explain

Tony Gregory was a great man so he was.

Not saying Gately wasn't a lovely lad but Tony was some man for one man altogether.

How stupid, Train stations should be named after the area not some unimportant person.

Liverpool John Lennon International?? John Lennon is not important today nor was he ever.

Belfast George Best helps differentiate from Aldergrove but in a few decades George Best will be irrelevent.

    George Bush Intercontinental Airport :D

Train stations should only be named after fictional characters!

I echo the opinion of the majority in this thread, this is such a ridiculous idea. Rory Gallagher/Phil Linnot/Luke Kelly had more talent and personality in their left baby finger than Stephen Gately ever did. Name something after them.

That's such a false arguement, we're not complaining about the dude, we're complaining that he's being held up as some sort of hero of our time!

nah, I think it's more the people going for lollercopter status by making depressingly unfunny jokes about him being gay.

At least be original, rather than "lol penis".

don't get you frilly pink knickers in a knot. it's not as if i'm going out beating the crap out of gay people.

Just call one of the trains after him like Thomas the Tank Engine or Wilson in Chuggington. Surely this would put a stop to all the homophobic jokes.

Let's be honest,if the guy was straight he would'nt have been nominated for greatest Irish person nor would he have a campaign to have a train station named after him.

Completely true. Ronan was the only talented one from Boyzone but you could have taken him or the other three of this earth and their would not be the media **** storm there is now. The big buzz is only because he's gay

So will they name it Stephen Station or Stevo Station?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,873 ✭✭✭✭The Hill Billy

It would be better called CJ Haughey Station, as it was he who royally fu¢ked everyone in this country up the ass.
