Generation Kill the HBO mini-series is excellent in fairness but it doesn't come close to Band of Brothers in my opinion.

Band of Brothers is one of those timeless masterpieces that come along once
in a blue moon. Hopefully The Pacific will be right up there alongside it and judging from this it looks like it might just do it.

Anyone know an alternate link for the trailer?

    It's been taken down everywhere.

Band of Brothers was brilliant.....but I think the greatest of the all was DasBoot. The life on a WW2 sub was unnatural and this film captured it.

It appeared on TV as a mini-series and also as a film. The realism of this film is incredible. I find it hard to top, although I love Band of Brothers as well.

I agree. Das Boot is still the best war (anti-war) piece of television I've ever seen. However, Band of Brothers was superb, The Pacific looks pretty good too. Nice to see that they are maintaining the very high production values of BoB.

    The Pacific looks savage.

Trailer does remind me of The Thin Red Line though.

Looking forward to The Pacific. Band of Brothers is how you do a miniseries - I'm always surprised that it didn't do as well at the Emmys as later miniseries like John Adams or Angels in America did.

It's like a ten hour epic.

    Hello
I just got this boxset as a gift, I was delighted and have been told by so many that it's amazing..

I just watched the 1st ep ... and it was good ... but not amazing ...
I am not dying to watch the next episode ... OK it's not the kind of TV like 24 or LOST ... but is it a "marmite" kind of program ?

you either love it or hate it ??

    discuss.

It's an epic series, worth watching over and over. Can't wait for BoB: Pacific, hope it continues on to the same standard.

Play????, get it from Amazon, cheaper even with delivery. I got it for Xmas and BluRay and its just wow. I wish I had a sound system to match the picture quality.

You have to watch them back to back to back to back..... :)

It's an awesome awesome show. My only complaint was David Schwimmer (sp) appearing in it.

Keep at it monkey. It's a superb show and I've watched them all at least 6 times. First is slow going; it sets the scene. You'll rewatch it after watching the series and it'll make more sense knowing the characters. The second episode, third etc. get better!

I think this is possibly the only show I can think of that nobody can dislike, it's just brilliant in every way :D

I agree with the op in a way,

I watched the first episode without hearing how good it was and I put it on the back burner.

Of course when I eventually returned to it I kicked myself. Have seen it twice more since,

OP give it till episode 3/4 and you'll be deleting this thread :)

Yeah, the first episode introduces the characters nicely, showing how they bonded etc. After that it's full blooded intensity and cracking dialogue with some good humour chucked in there as well.

Apparently with The Pacific the first episode is straight into the action so those who weren't enamoured with the first ep of Band of Brothers will be pleased!

have to agree. I think he was way to typecast as Ross when he did this, and didnt really fit in to the series. Sad story of the guy Sobel though, ended up killing himself in later life. The other characters were very well cast though. But when I see Schwimmer in this, I half expect Marcel to jump up on his shoulder.

OP should be banned for not being able to watch television properly :-)

no he attempted to kill himself but blinded himself instaed and then died of malnutrition years later in a VA hospital

    Very sad.

yeah that was Schwimmer's character... I think he was picked cos of his physical likeness.

    wow ... what a show .... have watched 4 eps now ..... awesome .....

I do remember the hype when BoB was first previewed back in early 2001. Amongst a few other factors it was being sold to the public largely as show "starring David Schwimmer" (because he was hot at the time and the rest of the cast was pretty much all unknowns). I didn't give it much hope based on his prominence. Thankfully it turned out better than I expected. :)
