Not THAT sort of confusion! :pac:

I meant as in how they react to a woman wearing what is typically known and accepted to be only a male uniform there.

Its not a male uniform in the same way as a dress is a female one.

Women wear trousers and trousersuits all the time, but men (except the very brave) generally don't wear dresses too often in public.

Woman in a pantsuit is hardly a traumatising thing to see, unless its Mary Harney.

I still had a good night, though! :pac:

I know and understand that and I think my point came out wrong so I'm gonna quit this one before I embarrass myself further :p

:pac: I get ye now! In fairness though, if they're confused, fuck them! They'll soon get over it and will be the better for it.

But on the other at least they're following through on fairness: "We told her she cant have her prom; it only fair we tell all of our students they cant have their prom too"

unfortunately, i doubt they're doing it in the name of fairness and equal treatment, and more in the name of avoiding a huge discrimination lawsuit.

Secondly, she had to ask because the school specifically sent out fliers stating that only dates of the opposite gender were allowed and because same sex couples who had tried to attend in the past had been turned away at the door. So rather than spending a ridiculous amount of money on prom clothes, a limo, etc. she did the prudent thing and and checked it out with the school first.

And then she threatened to sue them.

Some people seem to be missing that, they cancelled after she threatened to sue.

I'm sorry, I'm missing your point?

I can see a point of view about making her wear a dress instead of a tux as you could class that as having a dress code similar to any other organisation, but to stop same sex couple from attending the prom was incorrect and the school are jut being w**kers over it.

I think people need to remember that this is only a few miles away from the town where Morgan Freeman was born.
That town held separate proms for blacks and whites until a bout two years ago, when Freeman offered to pay the whole cost of the prom if they had an integrated one. There was resistance, but they integrated.

From what I've read, and the discussions I've seen, the school were basically being tugged by both sides, and then said "Buckit, you guys sort it out, hold your own prom". They weren't really that upset about a lesbian going to prom, but they were being bitched at by everyone, and once threatened with a lawsuit, decided to walk away.

EDIT: Still really wrong, but people just need to remember the local pressure the Board would have been under. This probably isn't so much homophobia on their part, as just not wanting to get in trouble.

That's a sham, they shoulda let her go

But I think its stupid when same-sex couples do this, it's like they're trying to compensate for themselves.

It's 2 women, that's sort of the point!

Ah, I get you now and thank God- I didn't want to think that I might end up rowing with the Mod of Dexter. I'd have been devestated!;)

But I have to clarify that they probably were upset at a lesbian going to prom having turned gay couples away in the past.

Because they're the gift that keeps on giving.

and endless souce of wtf stories.

But this prom thing happens somewhere every year. What happens is that the school cancels it and the students get together to run it privately, and the kid who was originally getting ostracised by her school is now ostracised by her peers...

No man thinks a woman looks good in a tux only women think this. Just like women who ware ties. It just doesn't look good. Sure a really good looking woman can ware a tux and still look good but she would look far better in something else.

She should be allowed bring a girl, but women wearing tuxes looks horrible and would bring down the tone of the prom, it's meant to be formal, can't have people wearing any old thing!

Won't half of the attendees be wearing tuxes? Hardly bringing down the tone...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,276 ✭✭✭Alessandra

It's a little bit unusual to see a woman in a tux however I think if she feels comfortable in it then what is the harm? It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as a nice dress to some. It wasn't so long ago that women were not supposed to wear trousers..
As regards the banning of same-sex dates, well I think that is harsh. I also think it is completely unfair of the school to cancel the prom and will send the wrong message to the prejudiced.

I quite like it, but few could pull it off.

I think they both look hideous. and ive always found olsens hot.

obviously its sad, the school should let them go. exact same thing was allowed for a couple at our debs

on a side think its weird she wanted to wear a tux, would have to wonder if shes actually a lesbian or is actually transgender. cant imagine gay guys showing up in dresses

I don't approve of same sex relationships at all.

Girls should be with men, lesbians disgust me.

EDIT: This joke was made when I had lesbians in my Sig and it still was not thanked :)

you are talking about what appeals to heterosexual males.
these girls are lesbian. while hetero males and lesbians may have the odd thing in common...such as fancying women...they're not actually the SAME sexuality. not all lesbians are into femme dressing girls.
and sometimes women actually make choices about to wear based on what makes them feel good and comfortable and don't care if certain men think they would look "far better in something else".

When I went to my debs with some of the lads we all had dates. The girls startd dancin among themselves so we did too. One of the teachers came over and broke us up while they let the girls dance. I dunno what the deal was there?!

Am I getting this right, your a bloke, you went to your debs with a girl, and then you ended up dancing the night away with a group of lads?

Your teacher probably left the girls to dance, in the hope that a bit of booty shaking would of aroused your interested in said chicks.

What are ye guy's planning for your college graduation, a dance recital of Fame, where all the characters are played by, you've guessed it...........blokes.
