hahaha. Stuff like that makes me laugh. :D My mates all say it to me and it doesn't bother me. Some don't care for the word so I don't use it around them. Even if someone was to use it in a bad way, I've heard it all my life and past the point of it either bothering me. I spew out some bad stuff for all colours as jokes but they know i'm not serious loike. They want a reaction and I don't give them one :P.

    From Viz:
How come rap artist Dr. Dre can use the 'N' word on his multi-million selling albums and win a MOBO award, yet when I used it at my son's football match I was asked to leave the park? Once again, it's one law for the rich and another for the poor.

    :D

All depends on context, as pointed out by those wise folks at Viz.

Unless you're talking about dead people the word is epithets.

I find a lot of people who don't understand why certain terms are derogatory is that they have no grasp of the connotations "Why do people get offended by n****r? I wouldn't care if some one called me honky" that is because honky has no real malice or widely recognised undertones of racial intolerance. It is meant to but compared to boy, c**n, n****r and other terms it is as unacceptable as feck is compared to c**t.

If you are 18-35, white, male and of average height and build, this is your world everything revolves around you, that is why nothing can/should really offend you.

    Fierce racism in Cork.

Are people really going to continue down this dimly-lit corridor of pretending that 'cûnt' is a highly offensive word when it really isn't? At what stage did what people say on television become more truthful than real life?

As stated several times in this thread its all about what context the term is used. George Carlin does a very good piece aboout so called "bad" words. There are no bad words, only the context that they are used in.

hate that word, its right up ther with the C word for me

I don't understand this hating words. How can the word c**t be hated in anyway. Its just a word that people throw into a sentence. I wouldn't use the "N" work in the presence of a black person as the person may get offended but the word means noting to me so as other people have said we used to always greet each other with sssup n***a when we were younger, don't really do it anymore. Id say c**t in front of a woman though as its just silly claiming its in anyway offensive.

Offensive jokes and words are only offensive it there is somebody there to be offended other wise they are just jokes or words.

I have no problem with it I just find others dislike when I say it and compared to feck **** is offensive.

I don't understand how you can just announce that black people are a lot more racist than white people, but there are plenty of black people who are racist, yes.

if someone was to call me a c***, they had better be prepaired for one hell of a smacking.

urban dictionary: Derogatory term for a woman. Considered by many to be the most offensive word in the English language.

I'm not sure what country you live in, but in Ireland 'cûnt' is a mildly derogatory term for a man.

Well, it's about taking the term back. If black people keep calling each other **** then eventually it should lose its negative connotations, but when others use it in a derogatory manner towards black people the negative aspects become reinforced.

Just like the way "queer" used to be a negative slang term for homosexuals but now gay (and anyone relating to the gay community) people refer to themselves as queer all the time, and we have "queer theory" etc... That's probably more an American thing that isn't really visible in Ireland though.

Not if they keep getting all pissy about it. If you want to disarm a word you have to embrace it from all sides. I'm not saying anyone black should have to embrace the word, but using it while reacting angrily to it used by others is never going to achieve the above aim.

I would very rarely if ever use it in reference to a woman and if I did it would not be in their presence and she would want to be a right bitch. We would use it jokingly among the lads mostly and in general talk, Like "It was a right c**t of a day" or for a term of abuse towards lads.

I think its not seen as being that big a deal in Ireland especially out the county where everyone uses it including plenty of women.

i dont like why its taboo and yet all the rappers and blacks say it in songs and tv, which has a huge influence on everyone else so if they can say it so can we, either ban the word completely or allow everyone say it.

people hear it the whole time (kids) and mightnt necessarily know what it refers to but they still say it

Not all black people use it, a lot would think it's vulgar and offensive to call each other it.

Fair enough. With regards to what I said, I know I wouldn't use it anyway - even it was socially accepted. Meh.

I didn't mean to set the poll to secret. Just for anyone who cared, here's the results so far. Don't seem to be able to edit the poll. :(
We should all be allowed use them. 118 63.10%
None of us should be allowed use them. 37 19.79%
Only those of the targetted ethni city should 32 17.11%
    be allowed use them.

Listening to Tupac on the way home there and it's nigh on impossible for me to enjoy his music (especially Me & My Girlfriend) without singing rapping "Nigga" over and over. I don't think Mr Shakur would want it any other way tbh.

I don't understand why some people think because rappers use the word it legitimates it for everyone else. They also wear platinum grilles, brag about baby mommas and repeatedly get arrested for dumb ****. Why should anything that people like Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy do provide a model for any adult with half a brain? Much of what passes for "rap culture" today is a lot of coonery and buffoonery.

Oh my god, I've turned into my father.

Why it's even up for debate is the real question; anyone even remotely attuned to social interaction will know that words are weighted with meaning and their effect changes depending on context.

I don't understand why some people get so freaked out by the word ******, I wonder do these same people get all freaked out listening to rap music? cos from what I've heard lately it's ****** this and ****** that, seems to me like a handy way to use the race card, which to me is a rather large barell of ****e IMHO.
