    Not Lookin Good!
Hopes fade of deal in BA talks

    (UKPA) – 35 minutes ago

Hopes of a deal to avert a strike by thousands of British Airways cabin crew were fading.

Talks between the Unite union and the airline have failed to break a long-running row over jobs, pay and working practices.

Sources close to the talks said they were not optimistic of reaching an agreement to head off industrial action.

For those staying at the Flamingo in Vegas, what site did you book it through? I've booked through the hotel website and it looks like I could save about 30-40 euro at least by going through one of those other travel sites...

If you contact your hotel and show them that you can book a room cheaper on a different site they usually match the price. I'm staying at the Excalibur and they state that if i find a cheaper price anywhere else they will give me the same savings.

Indeed, it's looking bad alright. From the Guardian.

A strike by BA cabin crew appeared increasingly likely after a last-ditch offer of a 2.6% pay cut failed to achieve a breakthrough in talks today.
Yesterday, representatives of the Unite trade union and its Bassa cabin crew branch tabled a cost-cutting package including a pay cut this year and reductions in perks such as telephone allowances.
Unite claimed the proposals exceeded the airline's savings target of £60m a year, but ‑ with the 5pm deadline for achieving a deal approaching ‑ they have not been accepted unconditionally by the airline.
A source close to the talks, at the TUC headquarters in London, said it was likely that BA executives would turn the offer down.
Another source said the Unite chief negotiator, assistant general secretary, Len McCluskey, was not optimistic that an agreement could be reached.
Unite and Bassa officials will formalise strike dates, and a walkout could take place as soon as next Wednesday once the union has given BA the obligatory seven days notice of strike action.
According to a poll on the Bassa website, nearly one-third of BA's 12,000 cabin crew want a strike lasting longer than 10 days. Unite has already announced that it will not strike over the Easter holidays.
The final Unite offer of a reduction in cabin crew costs of £61.85m a year appeared to be foundering amid BA scepticism over the level of immediate cost savings in the document.
A deal over the creation of a separate fleet, staffed by lower paid cabin crew, has been rejected by the airline, which claimed savings would not be delivered immediately because the fleet had yet to be created.
Unite's cost savings document, seen by the Guardian, argued that the move would save £10m a year – but BA's refusal to acknowledge the plan effectively leaves the Unite proposal at £51.85m a year, below the airline's savings target.
A draft agreement between both sides, now unlikely to be formally accepted, contains a pledge to "rebuild the trust damaged by the recent dispute".
That relationship now stands on the brink of another marked deterioration.
BA has drawn up plans to break a strike with 1,000 volunteer cabin crew drawn from the ranks of its 38,000 workforce and a fleet of 23 chartered jets.
Willie Walsh, the chief executive, last week said he hoped to operate a "substantial proportion" of the airline's Heathrow long-haul operations and a "good number" of short-haul flights.
BA will operate its entire schedule from London City airport during the expected strike, and has also claimed more than two-thirds of its Gatwick-based crew will work normally, leaving its long-haul schedule from the UK's second-largest airport intact.
The airline operates 650 flights a day with its 239-plane fleet, mostly from Heathrow, but has not said which routes would be kept open by the stand-in workforce.
The dispute between BA and Unite has been protracted, marked by high court hearings and accusations of intimidation on both sides.
After months of talks, during which BA failed to secure agreement on cost cuts, the airline unilaterally removed at least one flight attendant from long-haul flights in November, triggering a strike ballot.
While some cabin crew privately acknowledged that the changes had not created significant problems, Unite and Bassa officials were furious that they were brought in without negotiation.
The development has meant, however, that substantial moves ‑ such as Unite's acceptance of putting lower-paid new recruits on a separate fleet of planes ‑ have been overshadowed by the battle to partially repeal staffing cuts.
BA lost £401m at a pre-tax level last year, and is heading for another substantial loss this year.
The airline has targeted cost savings of £140m per year in its cabin crew budget but has failed to reach agreement with Unite over how to achieve those efficiencies.

Not looking good at all is it for the BA strike. If it comes to it I wonder how they will decide which routes to continue running and which ones to cancel?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I've already thought through what I will do anyway. If I can't arrive in Phoenix in time for WM then there's no point me going on the trip at all. For me, the whole thing is based around WM and that's the only reason I'm going. So if they decide to change flights or whatever, the latest I can arrive is Sat night. If it's any later than that, there's no point. My finances are a bit low anyway so I could nearly do with cancelling my trip as is!

From the looks of it, they've a lot of plans in place for flights out of London Luton and Gatwick. Heathrow seems to be the one they're more cagey about and have less details on.

As I've said before, I really believe they'll give most long haul flights priority. We'll see I guess.

British Airways has requested that talks aimed at averting a cabin crew strike be extended past tonight's 5pm deadline and into Wednesday.

BA says it has 1,000 volunteer staff ready to work as cabin crew if needed

Officials from Unite have been embroiled in negotiations with the airline for months in a bid to resolve a bitter row over cost-savings, including cuts in cabin crew.

Union members twice voted in favour of industrial action, but Unite held off naming strike dates, preferring to continue with negotiations.

The union offered a 2.6% cut to basic and variable pay this year followed by a pay freeze in 2011.

BA reduced the number of cabin crew on flights to reduce losses and chief executive Willie Walsh made it clear that the changes would not be reversed.

The union has until March 15 to announce industrial action, and will have to give seven days' notice of any strikes, although it ruled out any stoppages over Easter.

BA maintains it has 1,000 volunteer staff ready to work as cabin crew in the coming weeks if a strike goes ahead.

    Willie Walsh

Mr Walsh says he does not want a strike - but he's ready just in case

Mr Walsh also revealed BA will hire 23 fully crewed planes from charter companies to help run flights from Heathrow in the event of industrial action.

Mr Walsh said he did not want a strike to go ahead, adding that he was willing to talk to unions about any concerns cabin crew workers raised.

However, he stressed changes made to onboard crew members would not be reversed.

The front page of the latest edition of BA's staff newspaper, BA News, has a photograph of Mr Walsh and a headline which reads: "Time For BA To Move On."

Mr Walsh said a strike by cabin crew will not ground the airline, adding contingency plans were in place to keep as many customers as possible flying.

Why don't you order and have it delivered to your Phoenix hotel? Just ring the hotel and ask them if they are okay with it (just say its a WWE Package & you are worried it won't get to Ireland in time for you going). You can then avail of the free shipping offers etc (no $35 delivery fee to Ireland!) and you'll be guaranteed that it will be there when you arrive.

Thats what I did the last 2 years and I had no problems. I'll order next week again and then it will be deilvered a few days before I get there.

If we order this week it will be there when we check in on Friday? this is so cool, we are at the hotel they are having it in.

    - It's being speculated now that WWE and The Ultimate Warrior may have come to an agreement on him joining the Hall of Fame this year after all. Warrior appeared in the opening video before last night's RAW, replacing ric flair

If you order about a week before going, the stuff should be at the hotel when you check in on the 26th.

Loft tickets arrived today...I'll be posting them tomorrow so everyone should have them by the end of the week.

Awesome, I just don't want to have to buy as much merch when we are there, I am trying to look up if the Raw after Mania is still three hours or not.

I am thinking no, since the Draft Raw April 26th?, is going to be three hrs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭Memnoch99

Raw after Mania is generally 2 hours, havent seen anything about it being 3 hours. Do they tape Superstars before Raw?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 50 ✭✭blazeofglory

Yes, they do tape superstars before, we got Christian/MVP vs Carlito and Chavo last night.

I only asked because about a month ago they said it was a three hour Raw for our show so, I have to find the link again.

    Thanks:)

It's basically takes over the WWE Heat but to me a tad better. Zack Ryder was a joke but Santino was funny.

Sweet, I've been lobbying for Warrior for quite a while. He was my favorite (even over Hogan) when I was a kid.

Don't mess with a guy that looks like this :)

-- I've heard rumors that Steve Austin will be the special guest referee in the Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon match but I can't confirm them just yet. We'll see next week for sure.

    hope its true :D

ITV news website is reporting that the deadline has again been put back to 5 today.

With the deadline keep getting extended hopefully they are close to finalizing an agreement. Probably just being hopeful!!!!

They really need to sort this out. From Press Association:

    BA strike talks still 'deadlocked'
    (UKPA) – 21 minutes ago
Talks aimed at averting a strike by British Airways cabin crew have continued, with hopes of a deal balanced on a knife edge.
A deadline to reach an agreement was extended on Tuesday in a bid to break a deadlocked row over jobs, pay and working practices.
Officials from Unite met BA managers at the London headquarters of the TUC for further talks, but there was little sign that an agreement was imminent.

Definately interesting why only 4 names have been announced so far! usually 8? So unless they plan on doing two next week and two the week after or something then heh..well I doubt they'll go with just four so hoping for some bigger names! i.e. warrior! THE SPEECH GUYS! it'll be fantastic! 'When the planets align and the moon turns blood red...'

    Haha what a crazyyy guy!!

Hi, I work for British Airways and appreciate there are a lot of BA-related travel questions at the moment, given the potential strike by cabin crew.

I just wanted to pass on the link to our page on ba.com http://www.britishairways.com/travel/strike-ballot/public/en_ie which has the most up to date and reliable travel information about how possible industrial action could affect your travel plans If I hear of any updates I will try to flag it up on this forum.

    Mod Edit.
Link removed because it doesn't lead to where it says.
It actually redirects to a search page.

Here's a link to goole news on the strike: http://news.google.ie/news?sourceid=navclient&hl=en-GB&rlz=1T4ADFA_enIE363IE366&q=ba%20cabin%20crew%20strike&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wn

Warrior's promo's were the best :D I remember when I was young I didn't have a clue what the hell he was saying, but he was so crazy he became my favorite wrestler at the time. If anyone hasn't seen it yet, I recommend the 'Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior' WWE produced DVD. If you can watch his promos without laughing out loud you are not human :D He talks about wanting to goto Africa and let Elephants trample over his body and lay down and let lawn mowers run over him and just tons of other bizarre stuff. I can only imagine how amazingly bizarre his HOF speech would be.

Take this for what its worth but the US Airways arena is reporting this as the Main Event of Raw after Mania.

BE THE FIRST TO SEE THE FALLOUT FROM WRESTLEMANIA 26!!

    MAIN EVENT:

John Cena / Triple H / Edge vs. Batista / Sheamus / Chris Jericho
I can see this not happening however.
