Ryanair have just confirmed the 300 jobs offered to Dublin are now gone as the Government wouldn't help them aquire hanger 6.

What a disaster. Surely they could have and should have done more to get these jobs especially as Aer Lingus just reported an operating loss of €81 million and said that they may have to cut 1,100 jobs.

That's a total disgrace, it's like those in power actually want this country to go belly up.

Its a disgrace. I watched Frontline last night. There was a guy on who had accompanied Coughlan on trade missions on behalf of the country. He said that her efforts were cringeworthy. What a statement.

I'm actually glad. Kind of puts the Irish government in their place. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call.

It's a joke. Aerlingus should have been booted out of that hanger the minute those jobs were offered and Coughlan should be the next one to resign for this monumental f*** up!

Yes because the entire country should bend over backwards and give Michael O'Leary everything he wants for a whole 300 jobs.

i hate michael o leary, but he should refuse to take on irish staff now out of spite. if he turned around and said that he wouldn't take any irish on until FF were ousted then I actually reckon people would listen.

I dont know the full details of all of this but ryanair have come across like a spoilt child and a bully IMO. they will give the jobs only if they get it THEIR way. it HAD to be that hangar despite it currently being occupied and despite offers to actually BUILD them a whole new one.

now maybe there is more the government could have done, but afaik* ryanair would not budge whatsoever on their demands. sounds to me like they were TRYING to make the government look bad.

*i am open to corrections. i havent followed the story in detail.

Are Aerlingus going to create 300 jobs? No they haven't created a job in years so why bend over backwards to suit them?

400,000 other people are not getting the same sympathy from you lot. 300 jobs like its the end of the world and you all bow down to the spiteful wanker O'Leary.

I couldn't care less about Michael O Leary, all I want is for that amadan Coughlan to be out of her job as soon as possible.

thoose jobs were not lost as they were never actual jobs!
secondly did anyone actually listen to what was going on??

so because ryan air wanted that hanger, ryan air must be given that hanger, when aer lingus have had a tennancy for that hanger, and are not in breach of the tennacy.

Get a grip, because aer lingus have every right to remain in that hanger, and secondly who actually listens to what olarreeery has to say. ( yes i mispelt his name on purpose as he is a larrery little upstart)

When they requested the hanger back in September Aer lingus hadn't been given it. Who's going to pay for the building of a new hanger? The government? And what are they going to pay for it with?

So what if O'Leary is a d*ck. He offered to create 300 new jobs and all he wanted in return was hanger 6 to be either leased or sold to him. Not to much to ask for if you ask me!

    +1
It was a win-win publicity stunt from O'Leary, nothing more, nothing less... so many falling for it too.. shocking.

That's not really a fair point steve, if MOL said he could offer 300 jobs to Ireland, then the government should have at least made an effort.
Do you think Mary Coughlan actually made any effort to salvage these jobs?

Especially with this Aerlingus fiasco about to blow up and potentially a huge amount of job losses there.

Ryanair Profit to first half 2009 €136 million
Aer Lingus Losses for all of 2009 €81 million

Is the Govt. backing the wrong horse?

O Leary was offered alternatives but he wouldn't take them. He just wants to create more noise and publicity for Ryanair. He doesn't give a toss about Irish people getting jobs.

Fúck O'Leary and fúck Ryanair. I think the government are a shower of useless gobshítes but at the same time it's not for we shouldn't be tolerating that scruffy little twat holding the country to ransom just so he can stroke his own ego. Like someone else said 300 jobs weren't lost as they were never there in the first place.

Why should he accept alternatives? He made an offer and the Goverment did f*** all to secure the jobs. Why couldn't Aer lingus have accepted an alternative hanger? They're not creating any jobs.

The problem was that there was no bending at all.

Aer Lingus is deluded and thinks that it is "The" Irish airline, and should take pride of place as a national treasure, despite the fact that it's losing money hand over fist. They're only sorry that they can't rip people off like they did before the likes of Ryanair showed up.

Coughlan is a numpty (great Scottish slang, and very appropriate).

O'Leary is a ruthless businessman, goes for the best deal, and knows how to turn a profit.

The entire thing was another stupid publicity stunt by O'Leary and hopefully it backfires and the Sun readers of the world see him for what a rat he is.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Ryanair make their interests known in this hangar late last year.....only for it to be 'awarded' to Aer Lingus off the back of some competition of some sort???

Oh and I reckon O'Leary is actually worth listening to. Why? He employs an awful lot of people in this country, and has/had the potential to employ many more.

I actually find it amusing when I see people post hate comments about him.

did you read about this story at all?

Ryanair made an offer / offers 9 months before Aer Lingus were given it. They were ignored because it suited the Gov, DAA and Aer Lingus to have that hanger in their ownership.

Ryanair should just look for land near Dublin and build their own airport (it'd be better for everyone bar DAA), but no one would allow that either.

Thats a stupid way of looking at it. It there was even the slightest chance of creating 300 new jobs whether it's Michael O'Leary or anyone else then the government should have been doing everything they could to secure them. Instead they did what they do best f*** all.

I have come to the conclusion that people who don't respect Micheal O Leary are less intelligent than those that do.

Hanger 6 is under-used by Aer Lingus, it has all the facilities that Ryanair needs and why would O Leary wait for a new one to be built.? That could take a year at least.

The only reason we have cheap flights on all airlines is because of the competition O Leary created. Ryanair have a really good safety record, flights are nearly always on time and if you know how to fly ( no bags ), you can go anywhere in Europe for a cheap weekend.

Aswell as that, we're all pissed of at the government.. So is he. Why the fuk shouldn't he put them to the wall on this when he's in the position to? He's the only one trying to combat the ridiculous tourist tax.

I'm sure there's gonna be some absolute planks who go on about how he does "publicity" and the "hidden charges" while completely forgetting that he creates jobs, generates massive tax revenue for the country and he allows many people the ability to fly cheaply.

He is 100x times better fit to lead a country or company than anyone is our current government.

A succesful Irish businessman who pays his taxes here, creates jobs and allows people to travel around Europe cheaply?????

Yes we as a nation should frown on such unpatriotic behaviour and embrace the reasoning of fine citizens like yourself who do nothing but bitch from the sidelines. WP sir, its you and your ilk that make this country a laughing stock

Get over him.. He has been productive in Ireland and abroad.. and that comes from him, his character is part of what pushes Ryanair forward, so what?

How 'productive' has your local TD\typical Political turd been?

There's a lot of smoke and mirrors on both sides, when it comes to events concerning Hangar 6, I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Irish politics is a piss coloured iceberg, I'm quite sure we only ever glimpse the tiniest tip of it.

He is out for himself and the profits at expense of his customers and employees. This is just a stupid statement. Anyone who thinks a buisnessman devoid of any form of ethhics should run the country should revisit the first line of their post.

They didn't do fk all, they offered alternatives. There is no negotiation with him it seems.
If they did give him what he wanted, then where would it end? Aren't we in trouble in the first place for bowing down to big business?
