    So Jeff Bridges is back!
I've read that sark is supposed to be back and figures out how to get out of the program.
    I'd say it'll look pretty impressive :)

    Like the TR2N name :)

The first proper trailer is now online:

    http://www.program-glitch-esc.net

The special effects are looking good and Olivia Wilde is looking mighty fine. I don't think it gives too much away like most trailers.

I'm really looking forward to this. I bought the DVD of the first one because I barely remember seeing it in the cinema when it first came out. Most people might cringe at the special effects in the first film but I think it's pretty amazing what they achieved considering the tools they had at that time.

Bruce Boxleiter! How are things in the Shadow War these days? ;)

I have to admit, that trailer actually looks quite good. The visuals are certainly something, and although "darker" than the original movie's, really look a treat. Am suddenly quite eager about seeing this.

I also suspect that music was a taster of Daft Punk's soundtrack.

    Trailer now on YouTube

TRON: LEGACY is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that's unlike anything ever captured on the big screen.

Sam Flynn (GARRETT HEDLUND), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (JEFF BRIDGES), looks into his fathers disappearance and finds himself pulled into the digital world of Tron where his father has been living for 25 years.

Along with Kevin's loyal confidant Qora (OLIVIA WILDE), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey of escape across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski. Cast includes Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen.

TRON: LEGACY comes to Irish cinemas in December.

Hard to know whether it will be as epic as the first...

Trailer looks surprisingly fantastic. Of course it is hard to judge from the trailer, but the tone and design suggests a very different kind of vibe from your usual blockbuster. Tron is cheesy fun, but I think this has the possibility to be something more than that. I already think it looks far more interesting and ambitious visually than a certain other blue-tinged CGI epic....

Plus Daft Punk soundtrack = win.

looks good, can't wait for the motor bikes. Disk battle looks good too.

Visually, it looks great...definate potential for a hit with this movie, it just depends if the script has something to it. CGI candy is great, but nothing without a proper story (looking at you Avatar).

A big leap forward from the test footage, it has textures and blinged out now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,144 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Yeah, it's the Windows 7 Aero version of Tron. Must say though, I thought it looked AWESOME. Loved the lightcycles and that bit where the young badass Jeff Bridges comes up out of the floor was just fantastic.
    Can't
    Freakin
    Wait.

Yeah, I thought I saw him too. Had a look on imdb and there's nothing about him appearing in Tron unfortunately. Will still hold out hope that it's him until I hear otherwise!

think its actually michael sheen who plays the guy who looks like bowie/ziggy stardust.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,177 ✭✭✭nyarlothothep

not as visually good as the original, its too clean and perfect, it doesn't have the iconic fx appeal of Tron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,983 ✭✭✭✭expectationlost

this looks like just an update of the old tron better graphics etc, rather then looking into the future..

there should have tronosised future thinking from now, quantum computing or something

Can anyone confirm this? I was reading in some movie magazine a few months back, and they said that Tron Legacy was going to be shot in 3D, using technology similar to Avatar but improving on it - only that just the scenes within the computer world will be in 3D, everything outside will be normal?

If this is going to be the case, consider me wowed.

Yeah, that's the story apparently. Not sure if there's going to be much improvement on the 3D but the 3D/2D thing is true. And, yeah, qwerty, can't wait for Bruce Boxleitner

Anybody get an Encom postcard? I got one a couple of weeks ago advertising Arc Wars :) Well retro cool.

seen the trailer for this before inception and im pretty sure it said 3d too.

gotta say im really looking forward to this one. only shame is its fecking december before its due.

i can understand someone thinking that its a shame they didnt try to break new ground on the games i.e them looking like updates of the originals.

but then again if they did that would it still be tron ?

personally i think they did a good job polishing up what nowadays would be considered VERY basic imagary. i love all the little heat/ energy distortion effects to emote motion/power and the splashy light is really cool.

speaking of which its great to see boxieletner in this. i dont know what the extent of his role will be but its such a nice nod of the head and the scenes we see of him in the trailer have a nice emotional punch to em.

damn this is gonna be a long wait :)

There's a new trailer out for this. It came out during Comic Con & ooh boy, it looks fantastic.
The de-aging of jeff Bridges is something else, it's really amazing stuff.

Just posted it up, looks really good, have to say I've never seen the first one though, for shame!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,551 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

go watch it now!, but you will have to factor in that cgi was at its most primitive back then and most of it was done by hand

Didn't realise Daft Punk were soundtracking this. Can't think of anyone more perfectly suited to it either.

Theres some clips of their score inline now, link here:

The CGI face of young Bridges is outstanding!...ultra realistic, and i doubt it's the final product yet!, the mouth needs a little work.

While I wasn't expecting a perfect 35 year old Jeff Bridges I still found his eyes and mouth to be really damn noticable. (Granted they are a bitch to grasp in CGI terms) Anywho, it looks cool to see a younger Flynn.

Samples from the Daft Punk soundtrack are online, I couldn't be arsed finding them again so I'll shamelessly give ye the link of the music on my site :pac:

^ it might be explained that it's not actually Bridges, but the master program or something, in the trailer he says i'm not your father, thus they might get away with a 100% photo realistic face, in CGI terms.

That's the idea anyways with him, I was pointing out the fact more when we first see 35 year old Bridges smiling at his son at the start of the trailer. His eyes really stand out in comparison to the rest of his face. Eyes have always been the hardest to do in CGI.

Still, the de-ageing effect does look really good. They've used the same method as Benjamin Button.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

^ actually i thought the mouth was always hardest to do, facial hair/imperfections/skin texture has come a LONG way from the days of Final Fantasy. Hair for example was very very hard to do, but the tech has come along way.

The best CGI of humans i've seen thus far was Bewolf...i think it's progressed even further, and i'm a HUGE CGI junkie.

Looks like a feast for the eyes alright :) Let's hope the 3D is Avatar 3D rather than the ****ty 3D in, well, everything else.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

^ it 100% is legit 3D, not "converted" post prod. , filmed from the get go in an enhanced version of the tech Cameron used.

    Awesome teaser here too ...

    When you see
Bridges at the end ... nice one ...can't wait to see this in 3D.

PS is that Rutger Hauer talking to him at the start ?

Does anybody know if this going be a lot darker in tone than the first?
    The trailer seems pretty dark.
The dark knight music might be leading me astray though!
