    Yes, no one who can't speak Irish fluently should be allowed remain in Ireland after 12 months, starting from 9am tomorrow.

    I'm sorry, I happen to deal with a few people in college that have very little english and it is quite a problem.
    I wouldn't go to live in another country without having a proper grasp of the language.

    Get out of that, how many people here use Irish in day to day work situations?

    The issue being addressed here by the judge is he's got a woman put before him, that claims she doesn't speak English, while she's living in England...

    I've seen shít like this before when i was in a group avail to be picked for Jury Duty a few years ago. There was an asian guy brought before the court for some burgulary and assult case who had an interpreter... even though it was acknowledged by the courts he was here on a student visa doing a curse in the Dublin Business School...

    I'm going on a limb here, but i recon the guy could speak English and is using it as a way that he can seem victimised, by being in a foreign country with a foreign language... and that's exactly what this Chinese woman is up to...

    If you plan to move to another country... it makes sense to learn the language used there... If I was to live in China... I wouldn't expect everything to be in English for me...

    I can speak one of our official languages and it ain't Gaeilge, it's enough to function:D

    To be fair you could speak very good English without knowing a bunch of legal terms and definitions.

    I am not slating the Poles here, most of the ones I know have excellent english. They are here long enough.

    It just seems to be the Pole roll makers who struggle with basic english. Dunno why.

    That's why they are making sandwiches and not working in a call centre selling you car insurance of any other job that requires good language skills.
