Have to second the Dutch here:

Hard working, liberal, enjoy a pint and a bit of craic, relaxed attitudes to sex n' drugs, take no **** from immigrants (i.e. you want to live with us live like us).

    My type of people!

Oh Jesus. Isn't it just an *amazing* coincidence that all the "cool stuff" in life happens to be in the only language you understand. Amazing. Wow. How on earth do the French, Russians, Italians, Austrians and Germans - among others - manage at all with such a paucity of music, literature, theatre, newspapers and the like.

Yeah, so there, Beethoven, Mozart, Vivaldi, Verdi, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Baudelaire, Hugo, Chekhov, Camus, Dumas, Von Karajan, Versace, Dolce, Gabbana, Armani, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Sarte, Proust, Ravel, Dante ....

    • Music- Elgar, Purcell, Britten, Byrd, Lennon, Mc Carthy, Davies (Ray), Jagger, Richards, Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Led Zeppelin, Queen.
    • Literature- Orwell, Bronte, Chaucer, Dickenson, Shakespeare, Golding, Smith, Ballard, etc.
    • Designers- Mc Cartney, Westwood, Mc Queen, Smith, Temperley, Williamson

Just because one is impressed by such great contributions of a nationality doesn't make that person some raging Anglophile.

The English - because of all the cool stuff to come from there: music, film, TV, fashion, literature, theatre, newspapers, magazines, comedy, to a lesser extent football.

Note the "of"- it's important. No one said "all the cool stuff" came from there.

is contribution to the arts the only criteria for 'coolness'? not saying it shouldn't be but there should be more.

    anyways i suggest the argentines:
they eat a lot of steak.
they drink a lot of wine.
they are laid back and have a healthy disrespect for work.
the current president is something of a milf.
    maradona.
    che guevara.
    messi.
    borges.
their flag has a cool-looking inca sun in the middle of it.

and just to stir sh!t: for having the balls to take on a much more formidable foe over islands they felt were rightfully theirs.

your cultural and intellectual world revolves around a single country, England. The hypocrisy is galling.
Do you not understand the thread?
    "What's the Coolest Nationality?"
Answering the question doesn't mean your limited to that country it just means you prefer it.

Didn't they tell them "We won't pay you the money that we owe you".
Nothing ballsy about that, welshing cúnts imo.

Iceland are going to be paying back that. They just refused the first deal and they already had a better offer from the Dutch before the referendum(which was based on the first deal)

Why would they ever say yes to an old deal when a better one was on the table ?

    The referendum was pointless.

you'd think it be americans but i find them to be very uncool.
People that get so offended by the c-word aren't cool.

I'm going for Italians or Finns.

either the Irish or the Americans.I think France is a cool country(nice weather, good food/wine,nice architecture, sexy women). The one thing that I don't like about France is that the people there are unbelievabley sleazy.Even the police there are complete sleezes.

The Scots sing 'Flower of Scotland' with gusto and yet still cling to the skirt of their English masters. If that's not 'Pussy' like what is?

Mad for the ould fascism as well.:pac:

And a country that has NAMA 'imposed' on it, is a democracy?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

It's still a million miles from a fascist dictatorship though - for starters we're free to bitch about it all we want here...

Democratic in the sense we elected the politicians to make these decisions on our behalf, so yes. We can't go to the ballot box for everything, even something as major as NAMA. It's just too complicated for the general public anyway, hence why our elected politicians make these decisions for us.
