Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's official then :(. I quite enjoyed getting through to Fiona. It's a shame they couldn't be transparent and fair with their games from the start.

**** I wrote a fing Press Relaese just like that one only I was afraid to post it :( TV3 got their before me (well after me). ****ing typical response.

I knew they would mention their redundancies, their IFTA awards (I went with the forgotten Irish) and the problems in the economy.

its all robbie99s fault for not letting the rest of us win on those damn triangle games. :D

That's right! Nothing to with the final three BAI awards they won... The decision to axe the show was taken when they withdrew the €500 quadrangles prize a few nights ago :D

Ok, just did some hunting online and got some confirmation about this, and yes it would seem that this show is going to be axed.

    Check out this out!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV3_%28Ireland%29

Scroll to the part where the heading is: Play TV Controversy and to the last part of it.

Here is the quote:"On the 4th of March 2010 it was announced that TV3 had axed the controversial program. The last show is due to be aired on March 13 2010."

    So there we have it!!

That paragraph has been removed. Check out the history of the page - 2nd entry below added this para, last entry removed it.

    (cur) (prev) 15:34, 5 March 2010 109.79.204.12 (talk) (54,898 bytes) (Undid revision 347798874 by 213.191.236.101 (talk)) (undo)

Here is the version containing the 'axed' statement:

The para appears just above heading OneVision DTT Licence Application

'So now the end is near"

Right lads and ladies, tonight is the final swansong. Looks like those call per minute stats were actually true.

Wonder who will be presenting and if they will pass any comment on it being the final show?

I think they should get a guest presenter for the night. Bertie Ahern or Sean Fitzpatrick would be appropriate!

I wonder how much influence this thread had on the decision to axe?

Over the course of 10 months TV3 had 12% of their schedule dedicated to EU productions. Well done TV3.

I doubt they would be mad enough to chance it again, esp with new legislation on the books to stop that sort of thing.

Eamonn Ryan has welcomed the axing of Play TV. :D

Well perhaps they are waiting for the laws to be implemented before doing another version. It also looked bad for TV3 this was another reason the pulled the plug. The number of complaints and its response to it. Their press release kind of washes their hands of it, as did most statements made by TV3. For some reason TV3 thought it could do its usual while ignoring part of the schedule dedicated to Gambling. As far as TV3 were concerned they did nothing wrong. IMO typical of their CEO who often came on the news defending Eircom.

I wonder will they mwntion it's the last show or will the presenter just ignore it.

Aoife only got a few days out of it. She'll be back on the dole now.

I'd say they will carry on as usual. Probably very annoyed that we have found out. They were hoping that they could just disappear into the sunset.

They could have one of the presenters redirect the phones.

Absolutely agree, BMollie. It has been great fun, following premium car-crash tv on one screen, while following (and latterly participating in) the excellent exchanges on this board on another screen.

I will miss the second part much more than the first. There were, of course, a small number of purile and abusive postings, but these were suitably dealt with by the powers that be (you know who you are!).

Otherwise, the contributions here were of a quality that I have not seen on any other public forum - smart, articulate, dedicated, mathematical and verbal intelligence, and more than a little wit and humour. In many cases, it was clear that a significant amount of work and knowledge was involved.

But in all of this, the objective was never far from the focus of attention, and there can be no doubt that the combined efforts of the boardsies here has been an important contributor the sealing Play TV's fate, although whether that will be recognised in the Media remains to be seen.

So to all of you, I hope that this is Au Revoir and not goodbye. Bond - calm and commanding, the wizard Auld Yin (whose name suggests a possible common Scottish origin with myself), super archivist and commentator Billy the Squid, Robbie, Carolluke, Alana and so many more. And of course BMollie - sometimes sharp, sometimes soft, but also with warm humour.

I will miss you guys :(:(

I would love if everyone on here tried at least once to get through and just say to the presenter

"Awh! You guys, what am I going to do without you".

If your in with a chance of winning 50 euro go for it.

She probably doesn't even know herself. When she opens the envelope at the end, the solution will have been replaced with something along the lines of "It was good while it lasted, production."

I'll miss it though, it's nice to see live TV in the middle of the night when you can't sleep and are feeling lonely. :(

I've been threatening to sign up for ages, raging now I left it. I'm studying denistry in Budapest and have met a couple of the presenters a few times, theres loads of Irish studying over here and we all end up knowing each other. I didnt know what show they were on until someone at home told me at Christmas and directed me here. Could'nt believe the kind of show it was (going by this forum, have never actually seen it!)because they're all sound. I met the bloke just as he was leaving and I met Fiona a few times now. The little one is lovely too but only met her out once, there was another one who was sent home but I never met them. I had great plans to infiltrate them and report back to youse lot...Too late now!

It will have Fiona's P45 or equivalent in Hungary in the enevelope and the words you have a 5 minute countdown plus some moments to leave the building as the solution

There will be no thank you's

I'm sure Fiona would be reading here and knows its over, maybe she'll have gone on the rampage cough before she presents (if she makes it) tonight.

Me also, I feel the same. It has been a love/dislike (re what PlayTV were doing to people) situation for me (don't like the word hate)...but certainly it became a hobby of mine, and I truly loved it, and will miss it.

    Reading between the lines
    TV3 GROUP RELEASE
    IMMEDIATE: Friday 5th March 2010

TV3 ANNOUNCES THAT IT IS NOT RENEWING THE PLAY TV SERVICE

TV3 announces that it is not renewing the Play TV service. We can't afford our part of the contract.

We would like to thank Telemedia for their professional service which gave TV3 the revenue to prevent further job cuts at the low point of the recession. Don't blame us for the unfair practices of the other party in this partnership

The service was very popular with viewers but recently viewership to the service has declined.Unfortunately the viewers started coming to their senses.

TV3 will likely introduce different interactive services to the station subject to viewer demand. Commercial revenues from interactive services such as Play TV are an important source of funding for TV3 since TV3 receives no licence fee income. The revenue is used to fund the constantly increasing output of Irish programming, now accounting for over a third of TV3’s schedule; and has helped TV3 to produce award winning programming.
We knew there was no income from licence fees but we accepted that. Now we're trying to divert attention from our stupidity and try to get you to believe we are sincere people.

TV3 has made an excellent start to 2010 with viewer numbers up over 5%, building on the increases achieved in 2009. Neilsen data shows TV3 is the only terrestrial channel viewed in Ireland (including the UK channels) to increase its share in 2010; and 3e has rapidly become one of the top three digital channels in the market.
More whitewash which has nothing to do with the subject.
    We are good at that.

    Ends.

    Notes to editor:
The following is just more diversionary material
Diversionary: adj: Likely or designed to confuse or deceive

PLAY TV commenced in May 2009. The service was an “infomercial” which ran between 12 midnight and 3am. Telemedia, the service provider, broadcasts similar programmes in most European countries.

TV3 won three of the major awards at the recently held IFTA’s: Best News Programme (News at 5.30); Best Factual Programme (Tonight with Vincent Browne); and Best Entertainment Series (The Apprentice)

Please see attached ratings data from Nielsen for January and February 2010, and for the full year 2009.

Just one of the memories I have that stay's in my mind and makes me laugh.
    I'd like to share.

About 4 mths. back CarolK and myself were posting about JG. She wanted to know his age and said he looked fit, and I said he looked very toned of recent times. About 5 minutes later he lifts up his tshirt and walks to the camera...At that point I realised, this board was being read, and relayed.
So when he was on again, I posted about his arms being very toned, and true to form, he walked over to camera (to get something?) and showed off his arm. Well the laughs I got from that, and still do, when I think about, are precious.

You know what, the money isn't at all important. The craic, banter and entertaintment we had here was worth it. I think I was lucky that I didn't discover PlayTV until after all the deception was highlighted on this thread. I knew the odds anytime I entered. I was even luckier in that the two or three times the past month that they had the wrong answer for the triangles were nights that I wasn't watching. I would have felt so conned and be bitter about it had I lost money those nights.

While I'm not sorry that PlayTV's greed has hastened their end, I'm sad that we'll lose entertainment and what we had going in this thread. I hope they have quadrangles galore tonight! :)
