TV licence question

Hi all , so I got a renewal notice today, rang the number on it and told them I got rid of the TV back in December. They are going to send out a statutary declaration form for me to sign saying I got rid of the TV ( Oh the bureacracy of it all :rolleyes:) I was also told that even if I send that back legally stating that I have no TV the inspector can still call. So if he does call can I just say I got the TV literally that day from a relative and that I was intending getting the licence the next day???

or would I still be caught ??

In that case, when the inspector called, you would still be in possession of a TV without a licence = fine.

Just get a licence for your own sake. Its not gonna break the bank.

I see what your saying and I have always paid my tv licence but I genuinely can not afford it this year so I thought this would be a way of avoiding it for a few months till I can afford to pay it.

Yeah you'll be fine. If you get caught just go and pay the license fee. That negates any fines (at least in my experience). The fee will then be once a year from that date on.

Ms Moxy - in that case, don't worry about it.

Its funny I looked like I came from the moral high ground there - I haven't had a licence in 2 years lol (I do live in a gated estate though, and never seen an inspector!)

all advice is gratefully received. I have been in my current house for 3 years and always had a licence and Never once been visited by the inspector so I reckon its not going to break them if I avoid it for a few months.. Lord knows they get enough revenue from ads on TV and other taxes I pay so why the hell I should have to pay €160 for a licence to watch the likes of the "all Ireland Talent show " and other poor replicas of successful foreign programs is beyond me :mad:

They can fcuk right off, I will never ever purchase a license for my PC... Our government are the thickest of the thick. Do they honestly expect everyone to splash out on a PC License?

They already have this in Germany, so not a case of 'only in ireland' this time I'm afraid.

A PC license-wtf? And how come people can be charged for rte services in advance-irregardless of whether you watch rte or dont you still have to pay for a tv license. So its not really a tv license at all, rather a unfair way for rte to remain in business despite the 'home grown' ****e they produce.

I love the way this government always tries to rip off the people via direct and indirect taxes yet does little else to improve the economy or wellbeing of the people.

If they knew that, I doubt the inspector would be too pushed on calling in TBH...

Have you thought about just buying an LCD computer monitor for that purpose? They can't receive a broadcast signal at all.

I have one connected up to my xbox via few VGA adapters and it works great.

Haven't tried it yet with the Wii, but I'm sure it's possible.

I'm pretty sure there is a VGA adapter for the Wii, just as there are for the xbox and PS3. (3rd party)

Or a simple component > vga adapter would work just fine.

If you are asking if you can get away with no licence even thought you still have a telly the official boards answer is No. We will not give any advice that is against the law.

AH answer: sure just use a videotape of fish and when inspector calls, claim it's an aquarium!

Simple, but brutal, if you can't afford the licence, don't get the tv!

But she already had the tv from the previous license. It's not like you have to buy a new tv every time your license comes around for renewal :P

I am not going to make this any more complicated than it should be. Has the poster got a tv on her premises? And, if so, does she have a current licence for this tv. This is fairly simple I would imagine. If she does not have a licence, then she runs the risk.

The inspector can't enter your house without a warrant anyway. You can just refuse him entry. He'd have to go get a warrant from the guards.

Whats the story with receiving letters addressed to someone who doesn't live here any more, I'd like to let them know but don't want them asking my name.

Is it possible to send them a letter to that effect?
