Ah now, Liz seemed to do a good enough job this year. That's probably why most people voted for her. Well, at least I assume so.

She's possibly one of the unfriendliest people I've come across in my 3 years here... VP Welfare, I feel, should be someone approachable... She has done a good job, but, she could step aside and let someone else have a try...

I haven't really had any dealings with her, so I can't comment on her personality. I do think it would be better if someone else were to get welfare, although it's looking unlikely now :(

I thought she was a massive improvement over the last one. And I also found her very nice and polite whenever I spoke to her. Maybe you caught her on a bad day?

Liz was nice as pie to me yesterday. Today, ok so she must be stressed, but not so much. I haven't always agreed with her in UC, and I did not like her response to the strike back in November. James would be a much better welfare officer, and I genuinely mean that. Lydia would either.

    Anyhow.

I think the last two welfare officers were the best in a good while, Natasha had some brilliant campaigns, and Liz is doing a lot of work behind the scenes. They've really improved NUIMSU tbh

Third count VP Welfare & Ed: Quota: 974 R.JAMES: 300 LYDIA: 601 LIZ: 835 James Boyle eliminated.

appreciate the updates, thanks Red Niamh.

Incidentally, the count is probably going to have to move to the Juciee Luciee at about 7 as there's a gig in the venue at 8. Anyone else mad enough to join me staring in the windows at the presidential count? Or even off the balcony above the juciee luciee. I imagine it'd be harder to kick us out of there.

Personally I had always assumed Liz was a lovely person, but found out it was quite the opposite. In my opinion anyway! Surely it is time to let someone else have a turn, and achieve things in the allotted one year.

interesting. If Liz doesn't get more than half of James' transfers, she'll have to be elected without reaching the quota...

I've disagreed with Liz in the past (Council on occasion, the ICTU strikes..) but think people are being very unfair here really. Especially seeing as some of the criticism is coming from accounts with a handful of posts.

She's a hard worker, and I think this years Union was a huge improvement on last years - with her playing no small part in shaping that opinion. I also don't think she's unapproachable or mean-spirited, I recall spending a good half hour in her office after a cancelled Commitee meeting discussing USI and odds and ends. On a personal level, I actually think she's quite friendly and I'd be more than able to chat with her.

All seems harsh. I agree with mickstupps call that...
Maybe you caught her on a bad day?

I don't like the idea of people re-running for positions in truth. I gave her a good preference, but James got my number 1. 1) He's a great bloke and new blood for the union and 2) I found many of his goals achievable and very good calls. Well done James, you ran a good campaign and you'd get my vote again in a heartbeat!

Also, for god sake- someone let CnaG in!

We're politicos, it's in our blood and we can't help it.

I went in for Shmick/USI earlier and still found myself standing around later on marvelling at it all.

Liz is about 200+ votes ahead of Lydia, with James transfers left to distribute. Rumour has it Donal Cox (Lydia's tally) is going to call for a full recount though, so we could be in for a long evening (I don't particularly blame them).

Also, apparently Lydia's name is in the wrong place on the ballot, so there is a possibility of a constitutional challenge, and a fresh election.

While some of us may only have a handful of posts it does not make any opinions less valid. I may only have a few, but here since July, I haven't specifically joined for this thread.

Very disappointed for James, he had great ideas and has a fantastic attitude!

    Fair enough mate.

It is unususal to see someones (Not you, another posters) first post deal with the personality of one of the candidates. She seems to have been getting a bit of stick lately, so I was just a tad suspicious.

You're spot on there. boards.ie is an equal opportunities webforum!

    ohhhhhh, exciting!

Good to see the elections seem to be going ahead better than they were last year. was a fecking shambles as im sure some of you can remember. took us about 2 days to count up the ballots because a certain Returning Officer didnt know how to do her job!

    congrats to Rob and Declan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Toasty113

Very surprised Pat got ents officer, didnt see much campaigning out of him and his go on the stand in the common room didnt actually say much about what he actually planned to do, or what experience he had... Thought Lou had it for sure.

Damn glad Rob got comms. Knew Declan had finance:P.
Also very surprised at Naoise not getting Irish officer

Also surprised at this, think the Joe Everyman tactic was in play. Both him and Louise were the best candidates for the job though.
